I purchased a Groupon for their $118 head and scalp treatment. I didn't make an appointment and just walked in the day of. There were no other clients except for me, and there were 2 employees, both women. The younger woman I was paired with seemed to be less experienced, but she was nice.
It started with the scalp scan that uses AI to read the snapshots they take of your scalp, then it gives you a scalp health report at the end. It seemed very interesting, however there was a major language barrier. My questions could not be answered, and I don't think we were understanding each other. I asked if she could scroll slower so that I can read the info about my scalp scan, but she just kept clicking between all the photos without saying much. Based on what I could read, it seemed like the scan determeined my scalp was dry, hair is oily, and there may be some allergies or irritants, but I could not read more info about it on the screen!
The woman who was doing my hair said my hair was oily, and that seemed to be her only comment. She grabbed the other woman who then explained to me that I should do the second tiered hair and scalp treatment which is for hair loss and damaged hair. This is when it starts to get confusing. First, I asked why I would do this one if hair loss and damaged hair were not problems I was dealing with. She explained it's because the Groupon one is just a scan and a hair wash without treatment, which was not true. Second, the cost of the second treatment is $138, which is $20 more than the one I got through Groupon, but she said that I would have to pay $38 for this one because I'm using a coupon. The value of the Groupon is $118, so I felt that was a little scammy to make me pay $38...it's like I didn't get the benefit of the Groupon at all. I really wanted to get the most out of it, so I agreed to the second treatment.
The hair and scalp treatment was very nice at some parts, and other times, it was like the woman was beating the sh!t out of my head. Pros: she gave firm massages and was very gentle with lathering my hair, but con: she would grab a bunch of my hair near the scalp and start punching my skull. I've been to other head spas before and knew what she was trying to do, but she was randomly too aggressive. It was hard to really relax especially since I was wearing an eye mask, so senses was heightened. The treatments used were very minty and tingly, and my scalp did feel very clean and refreshed afterwards.
Following the wash, the woman blow dried my hair and did some more treatments before scanning my scalp again. There was improvement with some of the oiliness of my hair and dryness of my scalp. I noticed they had some products and asked which one I should purchase for oily hair and dry scalp. The language barrier got in the way again, and she grabbed the other woman again to help. They spoke with each other and then the other woman kept recommending products for dry hair. I tried to explain that my hair is oily and my scalp is dry, but they were getting too confused, so I said I'll get it next time.
I paid with Apple Pay, then left. The end result was great and I feel like that's all that matters. I'm not docking a star for the language barrier because they were very kind and tried their best, or for the rough parts of the head treatment since I could've spoken up. The docked star is because they didn't honor the value of my Groupon and the conversation to do the second tiered treatment seemed a little dishonest. I may come back again and just ask that they don't punch my head.
