Conscientiously raised poultry & eggs, and charcuterie are also available . I don't know the folks who organize this farmer's market personally, but I know they work hard to make it useful and inviting to a wide demographic and a focal point for local commerce and positive change. Before the neighborhood had municipal composting there were compost collection bins on farmer's market days, which I think were courtesy of the Lower East Side Ecology Center (If I'm wrong, my apologies). There is currently a garment donation area during market, and usually some tastefully handled (non-invasive) live music playing while people shop and talk under the trees and around the colonnade. I really appreciate this market and await their return in warmer months.

There's tons and tons of park space of all sorts in the immediate vicinity (outdoor BBQ, dog runs, track and field, or just plain grass lawns with plenty of trees and open), which makes this a fun experience for an hour or two rather than just quickly buying and leaving. You can easily buy some supplies at the market and have a snack or picnic steps away. This place is around all year I believe but we really enjoy coming in the Fall, as there's great options here for hot cider and donuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious cheese and milk (some of the best Eggnog I've had is sold each year at this market), and lots of other stuff to peruse from while on a leisurely weekend stroll. We live over in Queens, and there's some half-decent similar markets around in that part of town, but it's just nicer to bike or commute over to Greenpoint and enjoy this Farmers Market on a Saturday. If you're in the area on a Saturday morning, treat yourself and stop by.

The fact that there is a farmer's market in Bushwick is quite exciting in itself- local organic produce has even crept into the hood! Just in case you missed this detail- there are two location: Wednesdays @ Broadway & Linden, Saturdays @ Maria Hernandez Park. They've recently added a live cooking demo & food tasting series to the saturday market. Definitely swing by for this at some point. Today I got to taste a delicious portabello ropa vieja. Yum. I didn't linger on the cooking demos too long, but one can certainly gain some knowledge on cooking all those fresh tasty vegetables. I'll stop through again sometime soon. There is a CSA called NEXTDOORGANICS stationed at the Bushwick Farmer's Market that I'll probably be joining. This CSA is unique in that you don't pay upfront for the whole harvest season, you can go week by week. Also, fresh cut flowers are included in your weekly pickups. Aside from veggies, Bushwick Farmer's Market also has local honey, cheese and milk, brewklyn grind coffee and artisanal bread. I look forward to seeing this farmer's market grow in the future. What they are doing is wonderful.

There's also a section of local artists selling things like tshirts, knickknacks, art pieces like paintings and collages. Regardless if I buy anything, I just love walking around the market looking at all the fresh, colorful produce, thinking of what delicious dishes could be made from the plethora of ingredients. Many top restaurants in the city book directly with vendors here, which says something about the quality of the products. Still open Mon, Wed, Fri & Sat. Usually the most vendors on Saturday I think. I did a little comparison shopping, and prices between them were pretty similar. There were free samples here and there too. And the selections varied so they weren't all selling the exact same tomatoes and greens. Besides fruits and veggies, I spotted baked goods, honey, dairy products, and meat. One cool thing about this particular Greenmarket is that there was a book swap and a composting station too. The layout is tight. All the vendors are in a row along the sidewalk, and they take up most of the sidewalk so at times you have to dodge other people, children, bikes, strollers, and dogs. Speaking of dogs, there's a dog run in the adjacent park. Of course, I ended up buying/spending too much, but it was well worth it for the delicious fresh local ingredients!
