This was an absolutely incredible event! I took my kids to the Easter pageant a couple of times when they were younger and haven't been in years. There were plenty of seats available or you could bring your own chairs/blanket, along with beverages and snacks. Prior to it starting the performers walked around so you could see their costumes up close, get pictures and talk with them. Filing and photography were not permitted once the performance began. It lasted 70 min but it felt like 20 minutes because it flowed so well. There were 450 performers, and the music/sound was fantastic. They even had two people signing for the death. They had portable bathrooms that actually flushed and running water for hand washing. Definitely adding this to our yearly Easter tradition. Perfect evening out!

Last week we took a tour of the newly remodeled Mesa Temple and came by the visitor's center right afterwards. Inside you can get a full history of the early Morman settlers here in Mesa and information about their families and the impact they had here. Downstairs there is a full-scale model of the Temple across the street, that was fascinating to see after our tour. One of the murals was of Harrod's Temple, we were told the Mesa Temple was modeled after that. Upstairs is a room devoted to family history, we were invited to take a seat and begin our own search, however, we were on limited time, so we declined. There is also a row of cell phone booths. I thought this was such a novel idea!!! Furnishings inside are very modern, the center is warm and welcoming. We really enjoyed learning some of the history here locally of the first Morman settlers. There was NO proselytizing, that was a relief. Everyone, regardless of denomination is welcome there. we truly enjoyed our visit!

I also like this side of North Mountain/ Shaw Butte area, since it's a little more quieter and less popular then the south side. There is a nice, clean bathroom at the visitor center, lots of parking. It's really a great place to do all kinds of levels of hiking and just be out in nature.

I have been down the street at the other end of North Mountain, but this was my first time over on this side. Ample parking at 8am, restrooms available and the hike around Shaw Butte was lovely. I had a great time! A little bit of cardio (I could have done more uphill - maybe next time I'll jog it up), beautiful scenery and great company! The weather was also lovely as can be. After we hiked, I checked out the visitor center and wowsers the place was loaded with info and items for purchase. A very nice volunteer chatted me up, tried to get me to volunteer (I had to say no but was tempted), talked to me about a Rattlesnake Garage talk starting at noon and other activities they have here. It's a really nice visitor center with books, Native American arts and snacks for sale here. Hours are limited so check the times when they are open. I stayed a bit for the Rattlesnake Garage and it was neat to see all the different kinds of snakes we have here! I'll definitely be back here again for a hike and visit when I am up this way!
