I have been on a months to month contract for months and now that I want to cancel they are giving me the run around. The manager Mike has to do an exit review and yet does not make himself readily available. So it's impossible to get into see him if you work a 9-5 job. If you are signing up for a challenge at Mesa Personal Training, don't plan on getting your money back, even if you meet your goals and complete all of the expectations. If you decide to try a MPT challenge, make sure you take pictures of EVERYTHING, required check-ins on FB, maybe even something inside the gym with the date to show you were there, because Mike, the owner, may insinuate you are a liar and cheater after the challenge is over. I assume this is typical, as no challengers seem to go in for their one month after weigh-in (it's in the multiple page contract) as the employees never see anyone come back/get their money back. I completed the 6 week challenge and did love what MPT did to help me get out of a rut and on to a healthier, more fit chapter. The other trainers are easily accessible and willing to show you modifications for all types of exercises so everyone can succeed. They are very supportive with meal plans, group training, Build & Burn group classes, and IntensiT dance fitness classes. The accountability checks really helped keep me on track. I lost 8# and 6% body fat and have kept my workout routine going. I am really only disappointed in how Mike spoke to me afterwards about the FB check-ins he said I falsely added. Then he chose to ignore me. For the $500 I put up as incentive, I should have received a true 1:1 personal training experience. read more

Unfortunately my experience w/ Mike & Mesa PT is one I hope to forget soon. I bought into his fb adds and made the unfortunate decision to try them out. Making the mistake of not reading what I was signing after a workout (the free one) I signed up for what I was hoping would be the boost I needed to get me motivated to get me active again. Shortly after signing up I was taken with medical conditions that left me unable to move let alone get out of bed ( to this date Dr's have never been able to give me an explanation or diagnosis ) But MIKE still took my $$$. I never once complained while he would hit my account twice a month even after I spoke to numerous trainers and told them I was physically unable to move or even get out of bed most days. I justified it to myself that it would motivate me to get back at it once I could finally move again. Numerous months later after continuing to make monthly payments I actually ran into Mike at a carnival and while my daughter was playing on the same slide of one of his kids we exchanged a few comments together before he said...you look familiar. I responded well I should since Ive been paying you for sessions I've been physically unable to use...followed that up with but thank you for wishing me a happy birthday bc I noticed you commented on my fb for my birthday...His response??? Oh that's just the girls at the office. Hindsight what it is...translation was he doesn't give a $hit about you. Regardless I started booking sessions almost immediately since I had numerous months pre-paid for right??? Nope! I even asked Mike personally to suspend my payments temporarily since I had paid for months upon months of sessions I had never used. After apparently taking numerous days and multiple times of him telling me..."he'd look into it bc he knew I'd been providing numerous payments for sessions I'd never used. Even told me I sent you an email after I asked him about it after they hit my account for another time after that. Did I receive an email??? Nope! Bc he didn't even have my proper email. So I tried to stay patient and kept trying to schedule my sessions a week out at a time talking my trainer countless times when I was available...needless to say they fell on deaf ears. If I'd of known that Mike was going to be unreasonable with putting further payments on hold till I was able to catch up with the ones I'd already paid for I'd of canceled my membership there weeks ago. Mike is a complete fraud. If this was a major gym franchise I'd understand. He tries to present himself as a smaller local gym & openly trashes other people and places Ive worked out with in the past. DEFINITELY not worth your time or your money. OTF or F45 will guaranteed give you better results and more satisfaction then I ever did working out @ mesa PT. I'd say Mike should be ashamed but he legitimately doesn't care. I even had to cancel my debit card just to ensure Mike didn't continue to fraudulently charge my account after I sent in my cancellation. read more

I really enjoy working out here. I have 2 personal trainer's there to make scheduling easier for me, which is great. Donnell is great and gives us a great workout. He always makes sure that we truly feel like we have done the most to improve our bodies. He even sends us workouts if we are not able to make it in at our scheduled time. Eric is also great he works us out and is so calming at the same time. He makes it seem easy but you definitely feel it the next day. Great job guys! Keep up the awesome work. Mike Newhard is running a poorly equipped "gym" and having people sign up with absolutely NO INTENTIONS of giving you your money back when you achieve EVERY goal and follow every contract requirement to the letter. I have NEVER written a negative review of any company on YELP until now. We (my wife and myself) have been getting the run-around from Mike Newhard for over a month now and we are now getting our lawyer involved. The truth about the 6 week challenge with Mesa Personal Training... don't waste your money as you will not get it back. I joined the gym in Nov for the 6 week challenge and I made my goal of losing more than 20 lbs. I was going to join but the owner was very rude and condescending to me on several occasions. He chose to have personal discussions about my progress and results on the gym floor in front of other members and not in his office, where he berated me. Even though I completed the challenge and did all that was required of me he told me I did not make it based on his information, which was incorrect. His only comment when I made my goal was when are you signing up for a membership? He has no intention of returning the money if you complete the challenge. He will find any reason to deny you the money. His main objective is to push the supplemental line ($350 a month for a modified plan) because he is getting paid for the supplements that the gym sells. The staff are great and very helpful and supportive. The truth of the matter is you don't need to spend $500 to lose 20 lbs. or start your weight loss program. The gym is like all the gyms out there, same equipment same classes. It is small so that could be good or bad based on your personal feelings. The owner will tell you it is not the workout that gives you the results it is changing your eating habits. So I should have listened to my husband when he read the contract, he said you will never get the money back even if you make your goal. The owner is just trying to find a new way to sell memberships and supplements there is nothing they do to justify the price. You are not getting a personal trainer you are getting a group circuit and group classes. The nutrition appointment is just a way to sell the supplements. So keep your $500 or hire a personal trainer for a one on one appointment, and you will get the same results or better. Do not make the same mistake I did read more

I signed up for the Elite Program in the middle of December. Mike had said all the right things, had me pumped, and I was ready for a transformation with the help of a trainer that had my back and gave me positive direction and accountability. I had read quite a few of really bad reviews about how he is all about the money, scam artist, etc. etc. This made me weary, BUT I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. Mike had given me a piece of paper of what to eat, and what not, and how much. I followed it to a T and did his circuit training daily. I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. (I was starving myself) 2 more weeks go by, 10 more pounds. AWESOME! I was miserable, but the weight was coming off. By this time, the communication got far and few in between and when he did reach out, he told me I need protein shakes and supplements. When I said no, It was like he just passed me off. Kinda like I insulted him. SO, instead of quitting, I reached out to him to tell him I wasn't happy , and that the 1 on 1's weren't there, I felt pushed off, like I wasn't important anymore. Right away, hes on top of getting me a 1 on 1. ONE of them. Went right back to the way it was before. A couple weeks go by, I am now just running on the treadmill seeing that he's not wanting to be a part of my journey as he claimed in the first place. He was all about the new blood coming in, and yeah he said hi to me every time I walked in the gym when the "NEW BLOOD" was in there. My last straw was when I went in there on a Tuesday. I had been checking yelp and google reviews on a weekly basis, and noticed that the bad ones are disappearing. Hhhhmmmm..... When I wen to grab my bag, I had noticed the new office gal. Creating a Yelp account. I thought to myself, "no way". SO, I go home, check Yelp and guess what is there... 2 new 5 star reviews. Coincidence ?? I think NOT. I understand wanting to have a successful business, however, posting fake reviews to make your business look good is SO NOT the way to do things. The truth will eventually come out. I'm sure he'll go on the defense mode of this review. Nothing in it is untrue. Yes I lost the weight, and I'm continuing to do it on my own. I sure as heck don't need to pay 50 bucks a week for it. Mike will tell you what you want to hear. He'll start out awesome the first week, then if you don't want to spend the extra cash, for his protein shakes and supplements, he'll push you off and make you feel like you don't belong. IF and when you ever get a moment of his time, he's so distracted, you feel rushed and like you don't even matter. He only cares about the $$$$ it's obvious. Sorry to say Mike, your gym has potential. YOU as a business owner, need to step up to your promises, and show you really care about the people who are paying good money. You're a great salesman! I asked multiple times during the initial meeting - this is one on one personal training with my own trainer, right? And I was repeatedly assured that it was. Arrived for my first session to find a circuit - with an unplugged treadmill that you use manually (?) and no trainer. Steps to take written on a whiteboard. Had to time myself on everything. Total rip-off. Filed a dispute with my credit card company & finally was given a full credit after a lot of back & forth. I signed up for a 6 week challenge to help me lose about 20 pounds and get me back to a routine of working out. With Mike offering the challenge for "free" it enticed me and I signed up understanding that I would have to pay up front, and would get a refund if I reached my goal at the end of the 6 weeks plus 1 month to keep the weight off. I understood the rules, and proceeded with signing up. I started with week one, weighing in and following the rules, and again for week 2. When I had my required meeting during the 3rd week of the challenge, Mike actually said, "it looks like you aren't going to meet your goal, so we need to make a plan for after to keep you on a plan ". I was so bummed, and that statement ruined all that I accomplished in those 2 1/2 weeks. I felt so defeated that I quit not caring about continuing. So disappointed!!!!! I gave two stars, because my review is for a total overall rating...While I have previously worked with Mike on fitness goals, I recently came back to him for his "Free" six week challenge...I found out the hard way it's not "Free" like he advertises...If you are not a person who is extremely disciplined and can without a doubt follow and read in between the lines and expect to ask the right questions to the answer, then don't bother going in. Mike has a lot of holes in those challenge rules...The group class room is small, he's short staffed which is why you won't get "His" undivided attention, he's got neighbors, who happen to be gym members telling other gym members, Mike and his wife laugh at the challengers who think they'll win the six week challenge...Not a good thing to hear...I will say I was disappointed with my recent experience...If Mike is willing to offer me my money back, I'd be willing to update my review, until then I stand firm, go to another gym for less money, for what I paid I should have had Mike's undivided attention 100% of the time...For six weeks I could have spent my money on an actual personal trainer... read more

I have been coming here for 8 weeks now, and it's been a really great experience so far. Mike is very encouraging and friendly, and never makes you feel bad if you are unsure how to do a certain exercise movement, or anything like that. This place is very welcoming for all fitness levels, which I really like. I have been to a different training facility before, where everyone was exceptionally fit, and it was a little intimidating being in that environment. So I went in for a free consultation. It was great, whatever. I told them I was leaving out of town for about a month and I'd like to workout starting in December. I kid you not they charged my credit card before I had even gotten home. I called and asked why I was being charged when I specifically said I was leaving town and I was under the impression that that's when my membership would start. Then before I could even go in for a workout I had something happen in my family and I had to head home. I will not be returning to Arizona. They won't refund me, and I get it I signed the contract. But I'm out of the area due to circumstances that were out of my control. It would not hurt them at all to refund me. I didn't make and cancel appointments, I didn't even get a chance to use their equipment. They can do virtual training, who in their right mind would pay hundreds for virtual training? They will get on here and respond that I signed a contract. But i did not and I cannot ever come in for the training. I cannot express enough how much I don't recommend this place. And if you do sign up with them. You better make sure that you don't have anything unexpected happen to you. Because they do not care at all. At least they got paid :) read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I went in for a consultation and signed up. Unfortunately, life happened and my living situation became compromised causing us to have to find a new place to live within 30 days. I tried calling back to get a refund because I never used their services (if you count sitting in their chair for 20 minutes for a consultation) and couldn't get ahold of mike. I called about 3 different times and each time was told he wasn't available he was with a client. I got 1 return call but was unable to answer and when I tried to call back I was told I had to call between a certain time early in the morning which was almost impossible with my work schedule. He basically stole my money I never used any of his equipment and to have to pay $500 to have 1 conversation is disgusting. I will be reaching out to the BBB and the Attorney General because at this point it is his job as a business owner to be reachable. Mike seems to have all the necessary certifications required as a trainer and the exercises provided in the studio do provide a solid workout. However, my rating is based on a holistic view of the business including client interactions. With that said, I feel that the entire session time should be spent interacting with the client and I don't feel that Mike offers 100% of his attention to his students. From periodic time off the floor to personal phone goals, I feel that it takes away from the environment. I also felt uncomfortable with the consistent push for referrals and reviews. read more
