We came here on our way back to Juneau from seeing the Mendenhall Glacier…read more I got the Texas size fish and chips. Hands down incredible halibut. It was not overly battered and perfectly fried. It was so fresh. The sidewinder fries were awesome! The Drive Through burger was delicious and the fries were also yummy. We got the pickles in the side - the person running the truck told us he makes the pickles. They were sooooo good. He also brought out a sample of the bbq chicken for us and it was very good. We sat at the table outside and ate the food and it was great! I will absolutely be back here the next time I am in Juneau. This place is a must-try!

While this isn't my favorite (try Sandbar), the fish is fresh and it's pretty hard to complain. Another win for fish and chips in the area. The shape of the potatoes is a bit weird looking, but surprisingly it works and they were nice and crispy. I did think the fish batter was a tad doughy on the inside, and yet a little overcooked on the outside. Not the end of the world though, and I still enjoyed it. We did stop by during the week for lunch and the truck was closed, which was a bit annoying. One of the brewery employees said this place doesn't always open reliably, for various reasons. Just something to be aware of. Better luck on the weekends. Overall it's a nice spot right next to the Alaskan Brewing Company, which has lots of great beers and a nice patio spot out back to eat your fish, have a beer, and hang out with your dog. Yum!

Delicious, fresh caught fish, smothered in fresh produce and mild/hot sauce…read more Are you getting hungry yet? This place add to your "must try". First it's in an open area with several food trucks. Deckhand Daves is first as you enter. I recommend the taco sampler. I ordered this with a side of fries. Fries were nothing special but we devoured the tacos. It's from a small shack, plenty of seating in the wooden deck area covered by Edisson bulbs. There's fresh free water in service. Next to deckhand Dave's is a crepe place, oysters and champagne, and a beer boat. Yes, this place is magical. The attendant was so sweet and friendly, she walked us through the menu which ultimately lead us to pick the sampler. We are so glad we did. Plus this place has gorgeous views of Alaska skyline, waterfalls, and the main part of town. Great place to rest, splurge, and enjoy Alaska at its best.

The beer battered fried halibut tacos with mild avocado crema were absolutely mind blowing. So good that I ordered a trio and quickly went back to put in another order. I have not had a fish taco as perfectly fried and tender as these. Crap. This spot has set the bar for me and every time I eat a fish taco now, I will cry a little inside knowing I'll never get this perfection again.

Alleged Halibut. But it's more of a flounder or Alaskan pollock. Liars!

My favorite was the pinapaitan & dinuguan dish. It's tasty, vinegary & savory. Thumbs up on the turon dessert; sweet, crunchy & satisfyingly hits the spot. Glad to know their business is open even for only 6 months a year (spring-summer) to cater to our Pinoy friends working on the cruise ship and those vacationing in Alaska. Mabuhay!

As we rounded the corner southbound on Marine Way, we saw a cloud of smoke wafting in the wind, and a huge line of people. Would we join it? Of course; the smell was too good to pass up. The line ended up taking about 20 minutes, and soon afterwards we sat down at a nearby picnic table to eat. Combo 1 ($19) - This combo dish comes with two skewers and rice. We went with one of each skewer: Chicken Skewer - Fantastic char on the exterior with blackened almost charcoal-like crunchy bits, but no burnt acridity at all. The skewer is covered with a supremely tasty sweet and savory glaze. The caramelized glaze penetrates every bite of the meat. The chicken is a little dry, but the flavor is phenomenal. (5/5) Pork Skewer - Similar to the chicken, great char, great flavor, but unfortunately the meat on this skewer is a little too far gone in terms of moisture. It's almost like eating a pork jerky given how desiccated the meat is. (4/5) The rice is not good. It's very undercooked with a disturbingly firm texture, making it difficult to eat. The only way we could stomach eating it was liberally pouring condiments on top. Luckily, the truck has a plethora of condiments to choose from. There's white vinegar, spicy apple cider-ish vinegar, and plenty more. Even with all the flavor enhancements, we ended up not finishing the rice. (1/5) We also ended up ordering dessert here: Karioka ($5) - Pretty nice sweet skewer... or at least it would be if it had been fresh. I could tell that the inside used to be bouncy since it seems to be made from glutinous rice flour. It's fried, so there's a doughy chew as well, but it's too far on the firm side, indicating lack of freshness. It does have a good coconut flavor and the outside is nicely sweetened. I think the exterior used to have a crisp sugar shell ala tanghulu, but again it's softened by the passing of time and moisture degrading the dessert. Still, it's tasty enough and nice to eat. (3/5) If I'm ever in Juneau again, I'd visit Carrillo's again, but for the chicken skewers only! I would definitely not get anything containing rice again. Maybe Filipinos like their rice undercooked and hard, but not me!
