This Asian festival seems well attended. There are some great businesses here. I ordered a Hmong men's shirt from a Hmong woman. The price went from $50 to $100 when I said I wanted long sleeve. I was not aware how much more difficult it is to make long sleeves. There was amazing food including lechon and also La Mai Thai from Fountain Hills were some of the many vendors. I bought a non la for $10 because the sun was so bright and unrelenting. There were constant performances from singers, dancers, drummers and martial artists. It's a great family event. read more

When I contact school staff to let them know they made a mistake I am blown off, talked down to and insulted. I've attended MCC a few times over the years using my GI Bill over the years as a Disabled Veteran. The last semester I attended, I ended up having some medical issues that got me behind in my classes. The school ended up dropping me after the semester was over, causing a lot of problems with the VA. Besides this, I just received a letter in the mail saying my state taxes are being offset for my tuition despite the school taking it out of my FAFSA and Student Loan dispursment because they had to resubmit my GI Bill paperwork with the VA. Now, I can't even get into my student portal to print off the transaction records showing the tuition was already paid. With all the changes the school has made since they returned to in person classes after the pandemic, the quality of the education has also declined. I just hope I can get this error fixed and the school return the almost $1000 they took without any prior notice. I would definitely look into going to a different school if you're a Veteran using your GI Bill. read more

There is a scam Mesa Community College is involved in, which consists in automatically classifying everyone as Out-of-State Residing in Arizona, to charge a much higher tuition. There are no refunds, even for the previous semester after one was charged $275 dollars/class more than the real in-county fee. That an institution which exists by our own property taxes can do this to the very people who have paid over decades for its very existence is something one doesn't think about. One does not tend to associate the words Community College with scammers, so it is a scam even the most scam-immune among us will fall for. This has nothing to do with the wonderful professors teaching there. It is just the administrative set-up, who aims is to steal money from Maricopa county residents. There should be stickers on every entrance reminding those entering that this scam is on-going. read more

This movie quote is from the movie "Good Will Hunting" and really defines the curriculum as departments at this school transition from classroom learning to online. A bit about myself. I am a college graduate with multiple technical degrees and technical certificates from community colleges and universities which would include Caltech. I've been working in the industry as a successful Engineer for over 25 years and decided to take a couple electronics courses at Mesa Community College. Despite a worthless bookstore with banker hours hours and over priced books for rent, my statement is based on this move towards online courses where your instruction is nothing more than a in class video your course department made during some previous semester. And while you do have the ability to stop the video and listen multiple times, there's no opportunity to stop the lecture and ask a question such as clarification on a statement or topic. This new format works great for the instructor because they don't have to teach, just show up for a few office hours where are generally found sitting in a small room with the door, nearly shut, shoes, off, and feet up on the table relaxing. And if your course has a Lab, chances are the instructor grouped all of them together so all he does is show up to monitor with no pre-lab lecture or instructions. He just simply shows up and wait for someone to ask him a question. It hit or miss if he's even mentally there to notice if you're doing something wrong or not, let alone see anything. And the college doesn't get off Scott free either. On-line is a benefit to them because they don't have to supply a classroom and they get away with paying your instructors less yet it is never reflected in ever increasing tuition fees. All of this is at the expense of the student, which is why you're better off, blowing off the tuition, and borrowing the book from the library, or buying it off, Amazon, where it's significantly cheaper than the bookstore and learning on your own. And while online courses, may benefit some people who just want to speed through prerequisite general education courses, you are really missing out on maximizing your education/knowledge. Unfortunately most the 20 something your old students may never realize this. I am sorry I spent $1k here for just 1 semester. read more

My niece from Indonesia went here for her ESL last year and she had the best experience. She really liked how diverse this college is and offers so many good classes. The international students desks were super helpful and very enthusiastic in helping new students and make them feel welcomed. Loved the rose garden, it's so wonderful and very well maintained. Unfortunately with the pandemic, the entire campus is closed. But the brighter side is that the Rose Garden is open for public and there are plenty of parking spots for visitors. The manager of the mail room was absolutely horrible to this package delivery man who was just trying to drop off a package, they closed at 4 but the manager wanted to leave early at 1pm so he cussed out the driver because the driver had to follow his protocol for his job and scan the package at the location. The mail "manager" even went so far as to curse at his own employees who came outside and said hey I can take that for you. Online Honor Student experience: Being an online student was pretty easy. However, you will never find out ANY information! The advisors will basically set you up for failure as well. Advisors: Three of my friends from HS aren't graduating this year because they were either short credits, even after meetings with their advisor to set up their schedule. I and my friends online were never assigned to a specific advisor. Every semester, i would make an appointment with a random advisor to set up my schedule because I need to know what to take and how many credit hours i need to graduate. My last semester, this spring '22, i noticed that i was going to be short 2 credits. I signed up for a 4hr credit which is similar to how an 8 week class is set up with assignments. If i hadn't caught that, i wouldn't have graduated. It's the advisors responsibility to make sure the student is on track and to inform them of options they could take to succeed. I feel like these advisors promote 3hr cedits instead of 4hrs. You will not graduate if you do not take at least one-2 4hr class each semester. Other: If i hadn't taken two duel enrollment classes in high school, i wouldn't have graduated on time. If i hadn't caught the missing credits, i wouldn't have graduated on time. If my friends hadn't posted on social media that you need to submit graduation/honors forms to even be part of graduation, i wouldnt have graduated on time. I found out, through my friends, not the school. I was never given a student i.d. I was never told about the fun activities on campus. I live in north phnx so its a 40 minute drive so i would only go to some events had i known but still. My first interaction at mcc was today. My first time on campus. I walked in the bookstore for my honors cord. I was told my name wasnt on the list but the guy was kind enough to give it to me. I have a 3.5gpa, all A's and part of the presidential honors thing. I go to the honors department, ask for my medallion, and she says im 2 honors credit short... not the staffs fault, but the advisors. I don't know what i'm doing so i am obviously putting my education in your hands. So now i dont get a medallion, no distinction on the program, no medal. But.. at least i got a cord, and that i know that i succeeded and i did it. Oh and the honors site said they would mail u your medallion and cord but actually you had to go to the campus stores in person! So yea that was my day today but yes i am graduating. read more

It's sad because they had promise but after weeks of the same instructor having us sit in q class room without providing any education, them running late and being rude to students who voice a concern about the fact I'm paying to be here and they can't be bothered to show up on time or give us the education we're paying for it's a joke. So far this school has been great and then not-so-great. It is a huge school first of all, the largest community college out of all of them. I have met some great, awesome teachers and then I have had some grumpy teachers. I'll tell you what you do, when you want to know what kind of teacher they are before you sign up for your class just do what I do: go onto Ratemyprofessor.com and search for the teacher and read the reviews. They are usually pretty accurate and give you some control over what your teaching environment is going to be like. However, I was racially discriminated against in the testing department and that is why they get only three stars. I realize it is the person and not the school but I won't ever forget what happened to me. The latter I will take up with the President of student affairs. Always stick up for what is right people! My High School Phoenix Christian still dominates our division by design. I would run the 100 meters which back then was the 100 yard dash. The 220, long jump and several sprint relays. I was fast. This weekend I enjoyed seeing hundreds of kids preform their best. Phoenix Christian senior sprinter Preston VanHofwegen, who is going to Azusa Pacific to play football in the fall, won the 400-meters with a personal best time of 49.45 seconds. You will be hearing about Preston in pro-ball in the near future. Devon Allen the Brophy track star won a pair of state titles on Saturday and came a whisker away from two more, thrilling the crowd at the Division I state track meet at Mesa Community College. Brophy's tough. As expected, Allen captured the 110- and 300-meter hurdle state titles. He dueled Deer Valley sprinter Trae Armstrong in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, losing both by a hundredth of a second. These were exciting races. Congratulations to every participant. read more

I finished fast which is cool and all, however the advisors are horrible here. My advisor reached out to me once and never responded to me the entire time, this delayed my graduation process. Not to mention the lack of efficiency in general from the advising staff. Word of advice; even if you think you're on top of your paper work with the advising team, always, always, always, contact another 9 people to confirm it. I contacted 5 and was given wrong answers by all of them, so I just suggest doubling the amount. read more

The campus is great, as a matter of fact, this is my favorite campus of all. Student life and activities are great, and it's always clean and beautiful. All the general education professors are amazingly knowledgeable and professional. My complain is about the Landscape Design and Horticulure program. I have to say that 50% of the people they find to teach the courses are completely idiots with no teaching skills and no knowledge. Most of the teachers are friends with the program director, Peter Conden. The woman he hired to teach landscape design has no teaching skills, she made the class a living hell, absolutely nobody understood what in the world she was trying to teach, half of the class dropped by the end of the semester and the rest of us left bad reviews. We spent 3 hrs on Tuesday and 3hrs on Thursday drawing and coloring, but hey, then we went home to spend like 6-8 hrs on ridiculous homework, first we had to figure out what in the world she was trying to say in those pink sheets, then we did the homework and when we turned it in, she says: "No, that's not what I meant". So, you had to redo it again to get points, and then she says: " Sorry, I just don't know how to explain things". Really?? The landscape Contruction teacher was just full of himself, he thinks he is the big deal, well turned out he didn't know s**t! We learned absolutely nothing in that class, we spent the entire semester digging holes, then covering them up, digging holes again, he talked to us like we were idiots that didn't know how to plant a tree, when 95 % of the class already works in nurseries. He taught what he wanted: permaculture, which is not part of the program description. He told us after 6 weeks in the semester that he didn't know how to do hardscape, so he brought his workers to teach us how to build a paver area. I found out through previous students that they hated him, they have complained to Peter about this teacher on previous semesters and Peter has done nothing!! Why? because this guy is his friend!! The Landscape Design AutoCAD teacher that was just recently hired a few months ago, does not possess any teaching skills, the class quality was so poor, absolutely nothing compared to the previous AutoCAD class. It's requirement to take an AutoCAD class before signing up to the Lanscape design AutoCAD, well, turns out I was the only one who took the previous AutoCAD class, everyone told me, Peter signed them up with no previous knowledge of AutoCAD. So this teacher, besides no having teaching skills, he spent more than half of the semester teaching basic AutoCAD, thanks to Peter Conden. A completely waste of my time and money, it has been so frustrating. And lastly, the idiot from Tucson that teaches IPM and plant biology, it's the most ignorant and lazy a** man I have ever met. He copies all his PowerPoints from Google, then you ask him questions about it and he says " I don't know.., look it up for me on Google", every single time!! He doesn't even prepare or studies for his PowerPoints or the homework he assigns. Then, talks about how he is going for his PhD in Education and bla bla bla, this guy is just a clown! Another waste of money and time with this guy. All the labs we did were so high school level or below that. And to top it all, you graduate with no portfolio. Why? Because the Lanscape Design teacher focuses only on hand drawing design, the Lanscape Design AutoCAD teacher had to teach basic AutoCAD to the class most of the semester. SKETCHUP, ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR, ADOBE PHOTOSHOP, ADOBE INDESIGN WAS NEVER OFFERED IN THE PROGRAM!! AND ALL THE JOBS AS LANDSCAPE DESIGNER IN THE MARKET ARE ASKING FOR KNOWLEDGE ON ALL THOSE PROGRAMS. Oh, and one more thing, this program has no budget!! Most of the materials used for labs came from the teacher's pockets or were donated. So, I don't know where the money is. read more

I am beyond frustrated with Mesa Community College. I have completed my courses in 05/01/2017. Perfect! Great GPA, on my way to university. I have completed my Undergrad with University 1 year after. But I was not able to graduate? Why? My AGEC form was completed but never submitted? Is this my job to complete this paper work, no, this is the advisors job. Here I am 6 months later, degree-less, all classes completed, 4.0 GPA and I am told I will not received my degrees for yet another 6 months, for a PIECE OF PAPER that had not been submitted!? Ridiculous! Teaching was OK, I am not disrespecting the educators, the programs were great and learning was spot-on for my program. However, I am extremely upset that almost nobody gives a S**T about the students or the process, just the money the students are paying. Special shoutout to Rebekah W. I am a former student & a current Academic Advisor here at Mesa Community College. The college has physically changed a great deal between my time as student till now as an advisor. Currently, MCC is under going more reconstruction to design more student space for engagement and learning. As a whole I believe this is a institution that does truly regard student growth & development as a vast importance. Does this always occur in proxy? No.. Thus I will say use this place as an opportunity to seek out those resources that apply to you & are available. Student life & Leadership/ Multicultural services are without question the most under utilized departments on the campus & provide a wealth of knowledge, advising, support & relationship for growing and continuing minds. It depends on your department and who your professors are. I took FRE 101 and FRE 102. Madame Chaaban and Madame Aldrich are your prof options. Each class had about 20 students. Madame Chaaban is an adjunct prof who challenges you, has patience, is American but uses language immersions (runs her classroom mostly in French). This helped me with comprehension, picked up the language faster. She stays on topic, is very well organized. Encourages discussion in French amongst peers. Madame Aldrich is also American, uses more English, talks a LOT about various topics. She gives take home homeworks, take home tests. Not as involved or immersive as madame Chaaban, but has different teaching styles. Super laid back prof. I didn't learn as much while she substituted. Bathrooms: There are a few hidden here and there throughout the campus. Some look like they are classrooms till you enter them! Language lab: very outdated. The Rosetta Stone is an unsupported version because it is so old. The computers are slow and the printer is ancient. Staff is nice though. Library: Limited selection of books. I frequently use the online system to order books from other Maricopa Community College Locations to be picked up at MCC. I return the books in the book drop, but today, one of the books did not get scanned back in, which causes me great distress. Quality Control failing. I had to take away stars because the library failed me today. Hopefully they remove the mistake from my account. The rose Garden is pretty nice and the location is not too bad. Especially when I was working at the hospital across the street, I could walk to my classes. The language department seems okay here. The lines are pretty out of control start of the semester when students stand in line for a new student ID. Except to spend 30-50 min. The welcome staff at the registration was super helpful. She helped me obtain the class I needed, and even walked me to the registrar. I don't believe there is a cafeteria I know of on campus, but there is a tiny café with limited selections near the library. I don't know where the book store is. I don't know anything about the science department to compare to other Maricopa Community Colleges. read more

VETERAN BE WARNED!!!!! The Veteran services at MCC is dogshit like absolutely dogshit. As someone who's attending ASU as well and has 0 problems I can say it's not supposed to be this hard. There's been multiple mistakes on their end because of a lack of oversight and just plain laziness They will "certify" your classes but will state your not charged "even though you are" and then you won't receive you fund until you recall their office and tell them to do their job. They also claim you need to fill out forms and come in to do it then will have you sit there for 30 mins because no one knows where or how to get this form that's all so important. read more

This is my third semester at MCC and they have made some great improvements. Every semester I come back this school gets better and better. My first semester there was a little bit of a struggle to enroll in classes as I was from out of state and they needed a few documents other than my transcript that I didn't expect having to dig up. Understandably, the school needs to be able to file all required documents and they told me exactly what I needed. After collecting what they needed to enroll me I was able to sit down with an advisor to enroll in my first semester. Every semester after that has been a breeze to enroll. Before the start of each semester and a couple weeks into each semester if you need to talk to anyone in the enrolling center be prepared to wait a while (30 mins-2hrs.). They actually have a big staff but the amount of students they see is insane so its understandable to me. They do their best to ease the wait time by having a text service to let you know your estimated wait time and when you are getting close to the front of the line; i've even been offered free snacks while waiting. I mostly take math and science classes and all of the seven instructors i've had seemed very motivated to help each student be successful in their class. I've only gone to their math tutoring center (which is provided free of charge for students) and the tutors are welcoming, great at explaining processes, and patient. Overall, MCC offers high quality education for far less than ASU, NAU, U of A, or any other university in AZ. read more

Mcc is a ripoff school. Just be careful when you park in the visitor parking, You will be write a ticket, and charge you $50 . They try to explain it to they have a certain rule that never be disclosed. I thought visitor parking is for everyone, doesnt matter you are student or visitor. They will give a unreasonable thing and charge u anyway. And if you dont pay, they send it to debt collection. Public safety in School is doing thing so terrible. Absolutely hated the two years I went to school there. One of the most disorganized establishments I've ever had to deal with. No one in admissions, registration, or the cashier's office knew what the heck they were doing. I was constantly told one thing and ended up having to do the other. The simplest things like singing up for a class turned into week long processes that never went through. The advisers were no help at all and ended up setting me back a year by telling me to take the wrong classes. However, there were a few good teachers I met that genuinely tried to help. Be sure to use rate my professor though because others sucked. read more

I'm 40 and headed to school to earn an associate's degree, I was scared to start this adventure, because really who decides at 40 they want to change up their life and move in a different direction? Me, that's who and maybe you,. Well my fears have been but to the side, every person I have encountered has been friendly and helpful. I haven't officially started classes yet, but am headed that way soon. And I can safely say I am not the oldest kid on the block there, MCC has students of all ages. The advantaged of going to MCC, earning an associate's degree debt free, that's a great selling point to me. Plus since I work full time, I will be able to attend evening classes, I'm old school I guess and need to be in a class, If I did it online, I know I will be easily distracted haha, but if you're not into attending evening classes they do have online classes as well. Okay so the biggest issue I have with MCC is their financial aid. I have never dealt with so much ridiculous stipulations and loopholes to make sure it's hard to get any help. Even when you have a pell grant, there's still some form, verification, reason why they have to deny you funds. I have spent more time dealing with financial aid at this school more than I have taking classes and doing assignments. Since moving out of state, the financial aid departments at other schools I'm looking at are floored that I have had to deal with so much nonsense to get school paid for. Most teachers I have had however were excellent and very good. They deserve 4/5 or 5/5 stars. Campus and library are good as well. Financial aid is just so bad that I can't in good faith give it higher than a 2. Financial aid makes me want to gives this place a 1. read more

They handle their students like cattle ranchers. I've had several instances where Financial Aid wasn't disbursed until well after the drop/refund date which is a serious risk for any student looking to pay for school by any other means besides out of pocket. I did have some wonderful professors who really liked their jobs but I had some that were terrible and didn't really want to see students succeed. One of my teachers counted how many times their students used filler words such as "like" or "um" in presentations then docked them points based off them which would have been fine it was a public speaking class... but it wasn't. Schools like MCC are reasons for-profit schools are worth the price. MCC doesn't care where there students are going as long as they bring in the money. read more

I have been brushed off and ignored for over a month now after continuously trying to apply. I'm having issues creating a new student account and have been lied to multiple times that it will be resolved. Every time I call I'm transferred at least 3 times, and twice now when I've called I've ended up right back at the number I first called. I'm going in circles and it's driving me crazy. If this is how the educational aspect of the school is run then I'd like to know now so I know where NOT to put my money. Classes are filling up and no one seems to care, they just send a "friendly" email apologizing for my inconvenience, telling me it will be resolved. Then, radio silence. Really wanted to go here specifically for the planetarium since I'm pursuing planetary science but I guess I have no other choice except to go to another community college who will prioritize my issues and actually help me so I can get an education. read more

This is probably one of the busiest Community college campuses I have seen. The number of students is astounding! The campus is older and not has fresh as other CC but over all it is a good lay out and I have never had a problem finding parking. I took one class here and was actually a little disappointed in the teacher. But I think it was the specific subject matter. IF this CC was closer to my home I would take most of my classes here, because it offers more classes than the other campus I attended. I love the book store, and the many picnic tables all around covered by big shady trees. I can definitely picture myself studying for class under a tree. read more

I never thought my favorite class would be the gym, but I absolutely love it! The people who oversee the gym are very friendly, and encouraging. I have never seen too many people in the gym, it has always had a dozen or so or less in it, so it is comfortable. If you are thinking about a routine, this is a great place to get your start, they also have other classes you may like, such as yoga,track, belly-dancing or karate. If it wasn't for the gym, I would have been long gone from this school from hell. As you can probably see by now, I am not a complete fan of the academics at MCC. I have taken around 30 credits here, and although I have a pretty decent GPA, some of the part-time online instructors are fairly 'feral' towards students( for some odd reason) which just messes up my degree plans. MCC has a 16% (or was it 14%?) graduation rate. The lowest in the nation. You can see the statistics yourself if you log into your FAFSA. Who needs a degree- right? Obviously this is play time. (sarcasm) I'd say avoid the Religion at MCC, that one is a joke- save your money! I think it is ran by a bunch of secular-rabid-lesbian atheists. read more

I love my nursing program!!! It is the best. The tution not bad and they have great teachers. That is the only reason they are getting 4 stars. The other offices such as registration, advisment, finacial aid are very unproductive buildings that have people working there who don't have a clue on whats going on. MCC is still worth attending, once you get into your classes it's worth it!!! read more
