When someone thinks of Arizona State University, they often think of the Tempe Campus and a large…read moreschool experience. What they may not realize is that while that experience is great for many people, yet others may be looking for a different experience. The ASU Polytechnic Campus is smaller than the Tempe Campus yet it's a community where every student has the potential to feel connected with resources and it is still large enough that there is usually something happening. It's growing as a campus and has transformed from a former Air Force base to a commuter campus to a residential campus in recent years with over 1,000 bed spaces living on-campus in traditional residence halls and single-shared or family houses. Opened in 1996, the ASU Polytechnic Campus was founded as ASU East on the former Williams Air Force Base in Mesa. The newest residence halls Century Hall opened in 2012 while Lantana Hall opened in 2000. The campus has strong partnerships with Chandler-Gilbert Community College and the surrounding Mesa area with the Mesa Gateway Airport right next door. The ASU Preparatory Middle and High Schools are right on the ASU Polytechnic Campus, too. While ASU Polytechnic is the home of numerous academic colleges and programs, they are known for their engineering programs and aviation programs and flight centers. As the campus continues to grow each year, the number of buildings on campus continue to increase. In addition to academic buildings, there are student services available in the Academic Center (home to a computer lab and the library), the Administration Building, several of the Quad buildings, and the Student Union. There is also the Simulator Building and the Technology Center along with residence halls and houses, a dining hall (also home to the Multicultural Communities of excellence and a small marketplace), and the Sun Devil Fitness Complex. There is also the ASU Charter monument. Needless to say, there is something for everyone on the ASU Polytechnic Campus. At the Polytechnic Campus, every student can drive their own experience as they engage in the events and resources on-campus while attending classes, getting an on-campus job, landing an internship or full-time job, joining clubs and organizations, attending many free events and activities, and so much more. The Dean of Students Office (in the Academic Center) and the many student services offices at ASU Polytechnic are always there for students, and it's easy to find your way towards graduation and your future when taking advantage of these resources. I look forward to seeing what comes next on such an engaging campus such as the ASU Polytechnic Campus in the coming years!

Look. This place has its flaws. But no one here is going to hold your hand. The medical field is a…read moreruthless, cut and dry field, that has high expectations, and the program condensed a two year program into 7 months. The work comes rapidly and the pace is brutal at first, but that is simply not their problem. It is a program the weeds out the weak and only the dedicated survive. It's up to YOU to find the answers. YOU make your own study guide. It is 10% instruction and 90% YOU. Show up every day. Ask questions. If you don't get an answer you want, ask someone else. Ask every single person in the whole school before you give up and believe that the school is the problem. Use every available resource. And if nothing else, use google. This is not like college even though it has it in the name. You get a syllabus, 1 hour of lecture per class, and then you are on your own. This program is for people that simply do NOT have time to go back to school. Do not have time to mess around. And are here to WORK THEIR ASS OFF! If you lack the self discipline, you will fail. If you lack the motivation, you will fail. Every teacher here has the knowledge but they are not educators. They are individuals who have worked in the medical field for 20+ years and believe that they can impart their knowledge on you. That's why I only give 4 stars. They are not the best teachers. But they have a ridiculous knowledge of their field and it shows. Many of them aren't used to computers. That's where you buckle down and do it yourself. It's an accelerated program. From Day 1 it is ALL located in the online program and it's not on them to give a "review" to study with. You read the chapters, do the homework, review the homework, write extensive notes and study your notes. Sounds like a lot? It is. But it is doable. The price seems steep, but medical school will set you back hundreds of thousands of dollars that you may never pay back. This is about 1/10 of the price. The students are all in it together and all help each other build a sense of comradery and look after each other. You might not apply everything you learn here in your career. You will learn even more from the externship. The teachers are strict, rigorous, and professional. It may or may not be that way in your career in the field, but right now you are here to learn and figure it out using critical thinking skills.

Recently my 15 year old grandson, Nathan, experienced pain and swelling in his jaw. His regular…read moredentist said Nathan must be seen by a specialist. When his mother told me about this, I suggested she try the dental school- she knows I have had exceptional care at A. T. Still. Nathan was treated with incredible kindness and a biopsy taken. Dr. Suarez has consulted with me in the past. When she entered the treatment area I felt an enormous sense of relief. Dr. Suarez has an unusually calming and encouraging presence and I could see Nathan responding very positively. It was amazing to see him relax and immediately trust her. On the way home he told me that he wanted to go back to the school for any further treatment. This is a kid who never really expresses much in the way of preferences, so I had to smile. Yesterday I saw Dr. Suarez for a follow-up consultation regarding my own previous surgery. After a tumor removal in 2013 I have been watchful in case it returned (as I was told that might happen.) Dr. Suarez was, once again, extremely impressive. She was incredibly thorough and explained in detail why there were no concerning issues. She took the time to review the surgical notes I had forwarded to the school. Dr. Suarez did not have to do that...she could have just done what she does in terms of observation and assessment. But she heard what I said about a recurrence. Knowing I was concerned, she found the original notes and explained in detail why the kind of event I experienced did not recur. Hoping this information is helpful to others in deciding on dental care. While the appointments may take more time to allow oversight by teachers, I have never had less than profoundly excellent care at this school.
