Then I asked them to confirm if the outlandish number I was seeing was accurate and they couldn't give me an answer I had to ask 6 more times via calls and emails. When I finally convinced someone to respond to me via email? Yes, the outlandish number was correct. Having two associates and a bachelors already, Arizona State still wanted me to take general education classes on top of literally double the amount of classes my current college required for their CS degree. It was quite literally shocking and wasted everyone's time by not simply having a transfer tool or DARS report available for potential students. All in all, I highly recommend anyone considering Arizona State to compare schools, as attending ASU would have increased my degree runway by more than a year and cost me thousands more dollars for the exact same degree.

My daughter is wrapping up her freshman year as a pre-nursing student at ASU's downtown Phoenix…read morecampus. In summary, ASU has been awesome! She chose ASU over other universities because of (1) "direct admission" into ASU's nursing program; (2) admission to ASU's Barrett Honors College, reportedly the gold standard of honors colleges; (3) great merit-based scholarships that ASU automatically offered to her; (4) a great reputation in the world of nursing, with clinical opportunities at Mayo's Phoenix hospital and Phoenix Children's Hospital. As a Barrett student, my daughter lives on the 14th floor ("penthouse") of Gordon Commons in a good-sized two-person room with a private bathroom. (Her boyfriend is in the Best dorm on the Tempe campus. It's not nearly as nice.) She likes the dorm food and the ability to use dorm food credits at nearby eateries, e.g., Chick-Fil-A. She sometimes takes the shuttle to the Tempe campus and pays extra to eat at the Barrett dorm there. Reportedly, the Barrett food is epic. For her pre-nursing classes, she has found she is more college-ready than her classmates. On team projects, she often must correct classmates' mistakes. She enjoys her Barrett class, where she finds a higher caliber of student and an engaging professor. She's now beginning some of her special research obligations as a Barrett student. As a "direct admit" nursing student, my daughter must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher each semester. Last semester, she got a 4.0 with several "A+" grades. This semester is also going well, but she is taking a challenging anatomy class along with pre-med and other pre-health professions students. Apparently, it is a weed-out class. She is on the border between an A and B; all her friends are in the D-range. Fun fact: the students are already working with cadavers. A random fact: ASU will open its brand new medical school in 2026. As is the case everywhere, a lot of students prefer partying to studying, but the downtown Phoenix students tend to be more serious and have fewer distractions. Some students prefer the quieter downtown atmosphere; others prefer the busier Tempe campus. Next year, my daughter will be living in her sorority house in Tempe and taking the shuttle to downtown for half of her classes. It's a 20-minute ride. ASU does remarkable outreach to parents and enthusiastically encourages family involvement in many aspects of the university. (By contrast, our other daughter attends a University of California school, which does NO family outreach.) So, I have volunteered for several roles, e.g., ASU Family Ambassador. The ASU website offers family access and tons of information and resources. This feature is being upgraded as I write this. Also, several Facebook groups offer a plethora of helpful information and support. My favorite is ASU Moms. Typical situation: a student has a medical emergency; parents can't immediately fly to Phoenix; a local mom helps out as if it were her own kid. At the outset of the college application process, ASU was not on our radar. However, it did spectacular marketing and really grabbed our attention. Plus, its rolling admissions gave our daughters the comfort of knowing they had at least one solid option. Whereas many universities are inexplicably turning down incredible applicants who show strong promise of future success (including our daughters), ASU seems eager to recruit and reward all these über-qualified, frustrated, overlooked kids. I think this is a great strategy: I believe ASU will ultimately make the University of California schools seem exceedingly average. No university is perfect, but overall, I heartily recommend ASU.

What they may not realize is that while that experience is great for many people, yet others may be looking for a different experience. The ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus is smaller than the Tempe Campus yet it's a community where every student has the potential to feel connected with resources and it is still large enough (as ASU's second largest campus) that there is always something happening. It's growing as a campus and has transformed quickly from a commuter campus (when it first opened) to a residential campus with nearly 2,000 bed spaces in two residence halls. Opened for classes in 2006, the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus has hit many milestones over the last several years. For instance, in April 2023, the Taylor Place residence hall was renamed Gordon Commons in honor of former Mayor Phil Gordon. This campus meshes well with the Downtown Phoenix area as they share streets, parks, and nearby restaurants and stores. In fact, ASU is actively involved in monthly stakeholder meetings with the Downtown Phoenix Inc. (DPI). It helps Downtown stakeholders in knowing what's going on at ASU while it helps ASU to know what's going on around the Downtown Phoenix area. For instance, ASU students and staff enjoy participating in First Fridays while DPI is involved in ASU Welcome Week events. As the campus continues to grow and become more engrained in the Downtown Phoenix culture every year, the number of buildings on campus continue to increase. In addition to academic buildings such as those of Cronkite, Thunderbird, and the Beus Center for Law and Society, there are student services available in University Center and Student Center at the Post Office. There are also classrooms within the Mercado Center and Arizona Center and even the Fusion on First residence hall and 850 PBC. Within Gordon Commons (another residence hall) is a Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, other restaurants, a Multicultural Communities of Excellence space, a dining hall, and marketplace. There is also some interesting art on campus such as the "Her Secret is Patience" sculpture above the Civic Space Park. There is also a beautiful Sun Devil Fitness Center with a roof-top pool. Needless to say, there is something for everyone on the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus. At the Downtown Phoenix Campus, every student can drive their own experience as they engage in the events and resources on-campus while attending classes, getting an on-campus job, landing an internship or full-time job, joining clubs and organizations, attending many free events and activities, and so much more. The Dean of Students Office (in the Post Office) and the many student services offices at ASU Downtown Phoenix are always there for students, and it's easy to find your way towards graduation and your future when taking advantage of these resources. I look forward to seeing what comes next on such an engaging campus such as the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus in the coming years!

Attended a charity event held in the Virginia Piper Theatre. The parking for this building is not…read moreideal. The parking lots nearby are very small and when there's a large event, you have to park far away...not good when you're dressed up and your Wife is in heels. The room is pretty small. There were a couple hundred people in the room and it was tight for a buffet dinner party and auction tables. It reminded me of a high school dance in the space because of the wood floor and acoustics in the room. Tip: Ladies be careful wearing heels in the Theatre. There are small square cutouts randomly placed on the floor that have a soft lid to them and if you're wearing heels your heel will fall into them. There were at least 2 to 3 ladies, including my Wife who had this happen to them and almost hurt themselves. The event made some money for a good cause and was staged by U of A Medical School students. I'm down with the cause, so I'll be back. Return Factor - 100%

I don't have the patience or aptitude to do what they do, and I'm so thankful they're here. I can't imagine managing in this type of environment and the director, Jennifer is masterful. Like most businesses, there's turnover occasionally with teachers, but having had both of my kids go through most of their lives here, everyone has been caring and professional. Now, as you may have guessed, I'm not exactly the type of parent who is overly involved... err, micromanagey, so, I let them do them, and I'll do me. That arrangement seems to produce the best results. Kids will be kids, they'll do what they do, and again, these wonderful people are here daily watching them grow and teaching them stuff. My kids would've basically already turned into Blippi if they were home with me all day, because that's all they would ever do. The classrooms are clean, the grounds are nice and the kids are well taken care of. This place is a hidden gem and it's largely because of the people leading and the teachers commitment to the kids. I hate writing this because, the more people who read it, the more will bring their kids here, thus increasing my cost, but in this case, you have to know what it's like here-- I can't hide this gem any longer. It's wonderful. You would be lucky to find a place that's half as good as Lifeprints, and this place is the whole deal.

There was an earlier one star review written by "H.G." that has since been deleted, or modified (as far as I can tell), that was clearly meant as nothing more than a character assassination against a particular instructor. I have never written a Yelp review, and I may never write one again, but I felt compelled to add my two cents to this conversation in the event that these reviews are read by anyone at the College that happens to be in a decision making role regarding the HVAC program. First, it should be noted that "H.G." is one of my classmates this semester, and has been a perpetually disruptive force in the classroom since day one. For whatever reason, he finds it necessary to constantly burn up class time by trying to instigate arguments with the teacher (much like he burnt up the circuit board in a piece of lab equipment before the rest of us got a chance to use it). Therefore, it is important to keep that in mind when reading anything posted here by this individual. Secondly, and more to the point, I have found the HVAC program at Gateway to be a great benefit to me in my career path. I am currently working as an apprentice in the field and will be a journeyman by the middle of 2017. It's important to understand that these classes are meant to supplement on-the-job training, not replace it altogether. The responsibility for being successful in this program, as well as the field in general, is placed upon the individual. All of the tools for success have been provided and meaningful questions and dialogue are always encouraged. As is the case with everything in life, there is certainly room for improvement within the program. However, as is also the case with everything in life, you get out of it what you put in. If you come to class expecting to be spoon-fed the material and then cry like a baby when you don't like the taste, then you're simply not going to make it -- not in this program, and not in the real world. There are many things that can go wrong when doing the jobs that these classes are preparing us for, most of which can prove fatal. I know that I don't want to be working alongside someone whose hand I have to hold, or whom I can't trust with my life. When these instructors encourage the students to seek out answers for themselves, it's not out of laziness on their part. It's because they want to make you think for yourself. There are a lot of people who can't handle that for some reason, which is why I think so many people drop out so early on in the program. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I recently completed the Massage Therapy Program at Gateway Community College and it was the best educational experience of my life. My Instructors, Mr Tapscott, Mr Ybarra and MS Bauer, are experienced massage therapists and from the start of the program have been so supportive and have willingly shared their vast knowledge and experiences in the massage industry to better prepare me for the future. There is an online portion of the class and an in-person lab portion. I recommend this program to everyone that is interested in health services as an entry point as it is heavily based on skeletal muscle anatomy and physiology and will give you a skillset to earn money if you end up pursuing another degree. Cost is about $4000 and you get that equivalent in massages during the lab! read more

I had the honor and privilege of being enrolled in the Massage Therapy program through West Mec. Our instructor, Michael Tapscott made everyday an absolute BLAST! The way he cares for his students and takes the time to help us with any situation, whether it's at school or in our personal lives is truly inspirational. He's a big advocate on creating a positive environment for his students, and not allowing drama to be a factor in his classroom. The ENTIRE class became one big family and we all got along with each other. I feel incredibly blessed to have been a part of the West Mec Massage Therapy program, and I'm going to miss every second of it dearly. read more

This is the worst college campus that I had ever attended. The Liberal staff in the learning center will lie upon you then attack your 1st Amendment to free speech if you disagree with them.I was punished by higher ups for speaking out against bad morals and behaviors of their staff member. They in return thump up bull-crap violation of student conduct charges. I hold at that time a 3.5 G.P.A so is it I was the trouble maker? My word of advice Please be careful I was afraid of the professors here The Financial Aid Office robbed me of my student funds by telling me I needed these classes and after I took them I found out they were not needed! read more

I attended at the deer Valley location for massage therapy program...I'll like to say Michael Tapscott is one of the best instructor, Ive learned a lot from him every techniques, Anatomy, body mechanics, ect. The enrollment staff is very disrespectful to students, especially the Dean of enrollment service. He enjoys humiliating the students publicly. If you have a problem in system the he will yell, so everyone hears your problem. This man is unfit to be the Dean of enrollment. Gateway is also behind in technology. Get ready for an education in the early 90's! Honestly, don't go to getway, there are so many better colleges close by. Go to Mesa. read more

Pretty good school. I graduated from the PTA program in August. The teachers are great and very knowledgeable. The hybrid program was really tough because every class was 6 to 8 weeks long; so you're studying 3 to 4 hours a day for 18 months. Mr. Zawicki, the program director, is very professional, and I learned a lot in a short period of time. read more

I took their Massage Therapy class and I loved it. I learn so much and not just the lession that the teacher presented but a lot of life lessons too. I really recommend this school. read more

I didn't realize how often we drove past this place! The choir concert was inside of the Bulpitt Auditorium. Beautiful space, but definitely has seen better times. This supposed "Art" school lacks any classes that would actually qualify it as an art school, and in that regard Metro manages to somehow offer lessart classes than a majority of public schools, lacking any culinary classes or even woodworking. This school offers no opportunities for students to excel within their own classes or grade level by offering the opportunity for students to skip a classes if they have already studied or learned the topic within a class outside of the school. That aside, the school does not support students who wish to gain college credits as they progress through school and as such a majority of the students cannot benefit from gaining early credits. Even still the school has absolutely terrible management, from the absolutely mediocre job as a principle that Matt Baker does. Where as he rarely participates or is even active around the school. The poor sanitation conditions within the school bathrooms both male and female. The unfulfilling and almost laughable attempts at a legitimate prom that this school has. Whereas it is poorly planned and funded, poorly put together and absolutely terribly executed. Even other students here laugh, at the miserable and terrible management this school suffers from. The teachers constantly changing yearly and the new ones coming in not knowing how to adequately teach their students. Overall this school is an absolute waste of time, money, and resources in general save yourself and your children from this absolutely mediocre excuse for a school and go to an actual school. Paragraph construction and organization skills provided by Alhambra Traditional School, not Metro Arts, this school taught and gave me nothing but disappointment.

Then I asked them to confirm if the outlandish number I was seeing was accurate and they couldn't give me an answer I had to ask 6 more times via calls and emails. When I finally convinced someone to respond to me via email? Yes, the outlandish number was correct. Having two associates and a bachelors already, Arizona State still wanted me to take general education classes on top of literally double the amount of classes my current college required for their CS degree. It was quite literally shocking and wasted everyone's time by not simply having a transfer tool or DARS report available for potential students. All in all, I highly recommend anyone considering Arizona State to compare schools, as attending ASU would have increased my degree runway by more than a year and cost me thousands more dollars for the exact same degree.

The homework is substantial, the tests and quizzes are challenging, and the teachers expect a lot from the kids. It's not easy to get into this school (lottery and waiting lists) but it's every bit worth the effort. My kids will both graduate from here probably more capable than I was when I graduated college. The teachers are available virtually ANY time for tutoring, and the staff and parents group are both above excellent. Glad I found this school, and you will be too.

Open enrollment and full-day kindergarten opportunities are available at all schools. Music, art, and physical education programs are offered in all District schools. Acacia Elementary is an A+ School of Excellence. Abraham Lincoln Traditional School is an excelling school, featuring open enrollment.
