I strongly advise against enrolling in this school's nursing program. The program is misleading and, in my experience, essentially fake. You will likely lose both your money and your energy here. Many of the instructors are RNs but lack the proper qualifications to teach effectively, and they provide little to no useful instruction. It's hard to understand how the nursing board even grants them credentials. The administration seems to care more about collecting tuition than ensuring students actually learn. If your goal is to complete a nursing program smoothly and become a competent, proficient nurse, I recommend choosing a different school. I had to go to the Central campus even though I'm in a Health Sciences program at 18th Street site. It was almost 4:30/closing time but the woman at Business Services still took the time to help me w/ impt paperwork & I appreciate that so much! I tried to enroll into a program at gateway twice, for classes during this past August 2024 and January 2025. During both semesters i my enrollment was delayed by the administration office due to poor communication on their part. My emails requesting help and assistance went ignored, my phone calls were ignored, and when i did get through after literally hours of waiting the automated recording hangs up on your call. I reached people on the phone that claimed to put me on callback lists and never received any calls. This entire experience has wasted months of my time and life that i will not get back and has discouraged my desire to seek better education opportunities. read more

I was a full-time student homeless and never asked for special commendations was talked down to by counseling for being homeless being told i might make other uncomfortable carrying my bag around as if backpacks roller were not a thing. told that she notice trouble follows me. offered no support or assistance after telling her my goals and concerns which was i turned in homework week before due and always cleaned after me the cops one to be specific keep tabs on me the student center was cast after I reported one for being argumentive and oversensitive to my questions about how to make a resume that appealing to the school staff After reporting to the front desk woman they all became closed off and I even received instruction to only work with the one I reported to they did the bare minimum very controlling department seemed to want me gone and did everything to try to limit me did not explain or help me with resume just threw mine away and gave me their version and would not show me anything from formating or anything power play when i tried to work on it myself constantly asking why i am there when trying to use my person laptop to work on my cover letter Had teacher start arguments and then try to buy me off with items as a way to hope i would not report her bad behavior I was treated like a criminal when I had been applying to the school restaurant for many weeks and was overlooked and they only seemed to hire other Hispanics A lot of mental games i went to lunch hall for condiments and was reported as theft when to the lunch hall and they didn't want anything paid because they realized they had been giving it to me free since I first bought food there staff came to me to complain Hispanic staff dominated the application front desk as well very tight knitted with staff when i reported on others came to my "rescue" to tell me rumors about other staff this coming from their volunteers and adult staff students cent refused to offer clothing and food from their student pantry and lied for their reason why they purposely would discuss and bate me into situations where i had to report and bring others into the situation for witness accounts staff and students started to dodge me causing me to get used to being alone because everyone who talked to me wanted to know what drama was going on or bring it to me After i left the school they had a public meeting to express concerns I did not attend i told the dean what was needed sensitivity/ CSR training and to be held responsible for their actions. read more

The school is good. But their surgical Technology program sucks.... They keep bragging how they are the best in the valley when they are not. The professors are not good teachers, They do not prepare their students for clinicals. The way they teach is unrealistic. They say one thing.. & expect the complete opposite. They expect you to know things they haven't taught you & when you do know it, they talk down on you. They target certain students & favor others. Half the time they act like they do not want to be there. The teachers have a fake energy & vibe. They call you in to "help" you with skills you are lacking just to judge you & not help you at all. They use your weaknesses against you. They do not build your confidence up for clinicals. They prepar you for test. Not the real world. This program broke me. Yes, I love Gateway community college. I first received college credits from here while I was in high school. The set buildings are indoors so if you are taking general classes the main building is an indoor facility, and that is where the cafeteria and main computer labs are. The health programs building is indoors as well so it is a much welcome relief in the summer here in sweltering Arizona. The teachers here are great, I received my Health Unit Coordinating certificate from here. All of the health programs are extensive but you learn a lot and there is a sense of community at this school. They offer a lot of lucrative programs here such as x-ray technician programs, nursing, respiratory ect. read more

Their nursing program is considered to be the best among the Maricopa community colleges. I'm not sure I agree. As someone who graduated from the CEP program through ASU, I witnessed far too many students dropped and their nursing dreams shattered due to poor grading structures and lack of instructor organization. I would give this campus negative stars if I could. I am in amazement at how rude the staff, unrealistic the expectations are and how completely unorganized the health Science Center is. This review is for the nursing program. Here are the steps I took to learn about the program offered at Gateway: 1. Read about the program and choices online (no information was really given). 2. Called and called and called and called and called to get information. Turns out they can't give any information out over the phone. EVERYONE must attend an orientation on either Monday at 5pm or Thursday at 11:30 am. 3. No, no, no, there is nothing anyone can do and no questions answered until you attend this event. 4. Transcripts are KING. The school must have ALL your official Transcripts from every school every attended, yes even high school sent to them after you attend the orientation before you can talk to anyone about what you may be eligible for. 5. I asked if I needed anything for the orientation and was told no, just show up. Thursday 11:16am 1. Alley and I cruise into the parking lot ready to learn what is needed and what is offered at this program my current coworkers recommend the high school students look into pending graduation. 2. There is NO and I mean NO place to park. In addition the signs above the lot clearly state "Student Parking 4 Permit Required " I feel like an idiot because even though I have a graduate degree from UCLA I can't locate the permit machine, staff or temporary parking. 3. 11:27 I still can't find parking or the machine so I call and call and call. Finally someone answered, I was told go ahead and park in student parking. If I had a permit great and if I didn't it was OK too. 4. I parked, walked 2 lots over and into the Health Science Building. Upon arrival, I was told, I was 14 minutes late, didn't ask the proper questions when I called, I needed my student ID number and I should sit down and wait to seen if I would be allowed into the orientation late. Are you kidding me?? Even Alley was shocked! I should have known permit required meant no permit needed (the signs are old they said) and that I needed to be a student, already to attend an informational orientation about a program offered and of course ALL my transcripts even though I had already provided them to a sister school. Word of advice: At UCLA & UCSB the signs saying permit required mean exactly that, permit required or a ticket/ tow will follow. I guess the assumption is students applying to Gateway shouldn't follow written direction, don't know how to ask proper questions and have an unlimited amount of funds. read more

My instructor was Michael Tapscott. He was the instructor for the Massage Therapy program at the Deer Valley campus. I absolutely loved everything about the program and the instructor. We learned a ton about anatomy, physiology, massage and so much more. He is extremely kind and sees the good in everyone! You will learn things in this course that you won't learn anywhere else! I have two reviews for this Community College. First as a student. Gateway is a school I believe that is centered around its nursing program. The pull out all the stops for this medical career and those alike. But many of the degrees offered by the school can't be completed at the school. I went for a CIS degree and could only take 12 of the 36 CIS credits needed at the actual campus. Financial Aid is a nightmare at this campus. They will lie to you and waste your time. You must bug them like there is no tomorrow. If there is information they need from you, they will not tell you until last minute or if you ask yourself. You will not receive your disbursement until you are at least 6-8 weeks into your semester. Veterans services is a complete mess and the school refuses to hire someone who WANTS to do the job. After the last competent person left that was in charge they decided to cut corners and the vets ended up suffering. Many of US did not receive our certifications and the school had to be audited. To further complicate things the school will drop you for not showing up on day one. This is practiced at other schools as well which I think is too extreme. Also, classes that don't fill get dropped from the schedule with absolutely NO NOTICE! This throws students schedules and finances into chaos. Second as a employee. I worked for the IT department. This is a good job for a full time student. It is also a trap job for anyone looking to grow in the organization. This campus only give jobs to friends, associates and those in league with someone whose ass needs to be kissed. It does not matter if you can do a job or not. If you are not on someone's team you will not get hired. They will turn their back on you and block your career path if they don't like you. They strung me and 5 other guys along for over 6 months promising to open full time positions. This was over a year ago. I didn't wait. I gave a months notice, and for that month I was ignored and avoided. I was only allowed to work 25 hours and received no benefits. I have two kids and a wife. They couldn't understand that. This school has gone down hill since the dean from 2012 left. No matter how cute the package looks everything isn't pretty inside. read more

Received a Certificate in Electroneurodiagnostics from GateWay. I had awesome teachers who worked in the field and did everything possible to provide the best education experience for us! I feel blessed to have gotten to experience my education with them! Knocked off a star because they started construction and knocked off the overflow parking lot with no notice of where to detour to. It took a couple days to figure out where the new parking overflow was moved to. I don't know if it was notified to students and I missed it or if there was a lack of communication on their end. read more

There are many places where a Licensed Massage Therapist can take continuing education courses in order to stay current with practice, theory and trends. I haven't taken any elsewhere because it was pricey and I didn't "trust" the credentials. Sometimes the course name sounded boring. I have advanced very much and completley trust Mr Tapscott. Recently I took Thai massage and I learned probably the best techniques and improved my skills exceedingly by far! I know this because I used it the next day on clients and they rescheduled appointments be cause they said my skills were much more effective, and they felt much better than massages elsewhere. If you wanna become an hvac technician and learn electrical go to Gateway college. The refrigeration school seems more concerned with getting students through the course rather than ensuring that the students understand the curriculum. The school is only concerned with collecting tuition not ensuring the students learn the skills they will need in the real world. Because I am 4 phases in in using my GI bill I do not have the opportunity to correct my mistake and go to gateway college. read more

Gateway Community College is a good college, but if you have a Disablility and my personal experience from attending Gateway Communitt College they are good to the people they want to help and lack the help and others. With my experience with Gateway Community Disablility Center discriminate against disablilty, which is not right. Very disappointed in the enrollment process! Due to COVID my summer class at PVCC was dropped. Gateway offered the class (1 seat left). On Thursday I tried to get enrolled. After 3 calls and 1 email, I was finally "accepted" into the school. Tried to add the class, but now the 1 open seat was gone. Registrar emailed the professor on Thursday (class started on Monday). They emailed the wrong professor. On Monday, I was Ok'd to take class but still could not get enrolled. Another couple emails and 2 phone calls I was finally enrolled on Tuesday. Half hour later, received a call saying I am being dropped due to missing some window as class started on Monday. At this point I just gave up!! I will take the class at UA when I return. Would loved to have given GCC my time and money but they didn't care enough to work with me to get me enrolled. read more

I'm not sure how other schools financial aid offices work but this school has the worst issues. Financial aid tells keeps requiring more paperwork even after they say "you should be all good!" You'll have to set up a payment plan otherwise they'll drop you within a few days. Classes start and still no aid. You probably won't receive it till a month after classes start and then it's too late to drop a class, therefore pay for it out of pocket which is bs. The front desk people are impossible to work with and extremely rude. You constantly get the run around. It's almost worth the 50k to go private. read more

The school itself is great as long as you never have an issue, especially with financial aid. I'm in the automotive program and I love my professors and everything I am learning. However, Covid-19 hit and we were never able to return after spring break to finish the semester because the campus closed. We were finally given a voluntary opportunity to finish but one of the classes ended up fully cancelled due to Covid-19. Well, the college decided to put me on financial aid suspension for not finishing. While attempting to finish the semester, I spent over a month trying to jump through financial aids hoops while also not being able to see them in person. I was never given a straight answer and there seemed to be little to no empathy for the fact that I had no control over the campus closing. It is now a little over a week before the new semester starts and my financial aid still sits as suspended even with me, my professor and the head of the automotive department advocating for me trying to get this resolved. We've been on phone calls, emails and wasted countless hours assuring the school I've passed everything required of me minus the one class cancelled due to Covid and that is being added to everyone's course load next semester. Still no resolution but they have no problem sending me constant emails demanding I pay for my classes to avoid being dropped. I've been blamed on the phone like this is somehow my fault when I had zero control over a pandemic happening and I'm doing what I can as the school allows us to be there. We've even asked if I can forward documents directly from my professor or department head to get this pushed through faster only to be told no. We are all at a loss and exhausted from the lack of empathy shown. So yeah, you can go here and graduate your program, but you'd better adhere to everything to the T or you will have a nightmare getting something corrected. Anyone low level in student services often guesses on answering your questions and doesn't know. They'll tell you they'll have someone get back to you, but they won't. I would leave far less starts if I didn't love my automotive program so much. It's administration and financial aid that have too many tiers of hierarchy and lack of communication in between. You're only way to go through this and not leave frustrated is to either pay out of pocket or tread on thin ice and never make a mistake. Because if you ever have to deal with student services you're going to want to scream. read more

I am currently in the HVAC program and doing well. This program is well thought out and all the teachers are great guys. There is a ton of equipment to work on and a lot of theory based learning that will be crucial for trouble shooting in the field. read more
