It's almost scammish the way it comes off. The classes so far are excellent, teachers are great, the pace is fine. It's the horrid financial aid office you have to deal with. If students rely on finaid to cover tuition and living expenses it is their DUTY to answer the phone, to be responsive! This is stressful and ridiculous. You should never get a voice mail when calling a financial aid office of a college! Especially the start of school.

I live in the SE part of the valley, so that is too far for me. I decided to give the Gilbert campus a try, and I'm very glad that I did. It was very easy to sign up for classes and the two ladies at the front desk, Kerstin and Charmaine, are very friendly and helpful. The instructors are all very professional, knowledgeable and available to help. Most of them even give their contact information so you can ask them questions outside of class. Most importantly, even though I took the Crash Course, which the instructors say is like drinking from a fire hose, I was able to pass both the school test and the state test on the first try. I couldn't have asked for more than that.

Advice based on my experience:…read more 1- find the teachers that teach in a manner you understand and adjust your schedule to be in their classes, if possible 2- read the chapter before class 3- take notes and pay attention 4-plan plenty of time to do homework the same day you went to class. There's plenty of homework. Do it all, a few times The teachers aren't great about answering questions in an understandable way (example- some asks about question "X". The teacher responds "well it's obviously not A or C so that leaves B or D and B is clearly the better answer of those two. Any more questions?" Umm...if we knew all of that was "clear" we wouldn't ask. I waited to take my school exam until a couple months after finishing school and I had time to really study and retake the exams they give in the packet. I passed my second time. I did buy some of the study materials (flash cards, dictionary and the practice exams on CD) I found these helpful and essential to my learning. Highly recommend the CD!! I passed the state exams the first time.

Mr. Higgins, my science teacher, had a rule that everyone had to raise their hand, even if we didn't know the answer. If he called on us and we didn't know, we were taught to say, "I don't know yet." That has genuinely stuck with me. I've brought that same mindset into my workplace, and it's amazing how much of a difference those three little letters can make. Not knowing something doesn't mean you can't learn it. I really hope Mr. Higgins is still teaching, and if he has moved on, I hope that mindset has continued with the teachers who came after him. Ms. Holloway was an amazing English teacher and someone I'll always remember. She knew how to build real rapport with her students and make you feel comfortable in her classroom. Even after all this time, I still remember the way she connected with us and how much I looked up to her. Ms. Patricia, my ceramics teacher, taught me another lesson I've carried with me. She was very clear about the boundaries in her classroom and held us to them, while still giving us plenty of freedom to be ourselves and be creative. As I've gotten older, I've realized how important that was. There is freedom within boundaries, but you have to respect where the line is. These all seem like such small things when you're sitting in a middle school classroom, but they ended up having a real impact on how I approach life today. I'm grateful I went to a school with teachers who taught lessons that went far beyond the classroom.

Summit Academy is a great school. The teachers are some of the best, summit even has two teachers…read moreof the year Ms Craw and Ms Schreiber who are both amazing and understanding teachers. But really most of the teachers are amazing and really good (Ms. Min, Ms. Gomez, etc) Their extracurricular programs are pretty good, especially band who has won multiple superiors and has a great director, same goes for choir. And much of the staff are understanding.

My daugher is a seventh grader this year and loves her school! She seems to get along with her teachers well enough and her friends too. This is the first year she began riding a bus to school and she really likes it! I guess it's a cool thing to do nowadays... The school staff seem nice enough and appear to have their act together. The nurse has called a couple of times and was very informative and objective about my daughter's situations. She was patient and kind too. The front desk lady in the Administrative office remains busy but always seems to be on top of things. I am always pointed in the right direction when I show up to volunteer. I like organization and HJHS is well organized! They seem to run like a well-oiled machine. The gym bathrooms seem clean enough when we attended our daughter's volleyball games. And we have had no serious drama. I'm comfortable sending my child to school here. I trust that she will be well cared for and well taught, too!

No school is perfect, no teacher is perfect, but are they a school that will focus on promoting teachers that can teach? Yes. I believe so. We stayed just so our second grader could be in Mrs. Krugers class. She's an angel and retiring this year. It doesn't mean they don't love wonderful teachers but it does mean they won't keep teachers that are terrible. I would recommend. We are moving cities at the end of this school year and won't be able to continue but I would recommend if you live close. It's important to consider parent feedback and community feedback and I think they do both.

The teachers make a point of getting to know the students and truly care about helping them to succeed. My son is shy and one even stood up with him with her hand on his shoulder while he was able to accomplish his assignment of reciting a poem to the class! I encourage you to take a tour and see if you can feel the difference. BTW you'll even be impressed with their pickup system for students after school - very quick and no issues with backing out onto a street in a long line.
