We have been attending SMB for over 10 years, and we couldn't be happier. Weekly curriculum includes art, Spanish, PE, science and music. Extra-curricular activities are available for EVERY interest! Band, theater, choir, orchestra, chess, robotics, ballet, sports, STEM, to name a few. Junior high students can choose from many electives, such as forensic science, anatomy and physiology, personal finance, sewing, improvisation, screen writing, and many, many others! The teachers are exceptional and truly care about the success of EACH and every student. My older children are academically doing well, and were challenged by SMB's curriculum. They are now succeeding in a Catholic high school. My younger children struggled to return to grade level after Covid-19 quarantine (SMB returned to in-person option in Aug of 2020, thank goodness!) The teachers and support staff dedicated much time to getting my children back up to par. I was touched! The school has math and reading specialists and a counselor present on campus. The students practice the sacraments regularly; they attend mass at least weekly, as well as regular confession and adoration. Priests can be seen regularly attending morning prayer, and the sisters are employees of the school as teachers, school nurse and playground monitors. I love having religious priests and nuns present daily in the students' school day. The principal is a phenomenal leader! Lastly, the parent community is unbeatable; very supportive of each other and prays for the students, staff and each other with weekly rosaries and monthly adoration, and bible studies. It is worth your time to visit this school in person. You will be blown away!

In a perfect world I would love for my kids to have an old fashioned school experience - riding their bikes to school with all the neighborhood kids, everyone knowing everyone. But living in deep Ahwatukee, far from walking distance to any school, and in a neighborhood where kids go to at least 5 different public/charter/private elementary schools, that just wasn't going to happen. But the way SJB operates, it feels like the next best thing. If you're considering SJB, my best advice is to take a tour during the school day. Bonus if you can be there to witness a pickup/drop off, when all the parents and students are chatting and catching up in the courtyard like one big family. Once the school day starts you'll see such respectful kids and caring teachers working together in the classrooms as well as in the outdoor spaces. The academic standards are high, but the vibe is warm and welcoming. And because it's on the smaller side (50 kids per grade, max), the staff is able to work with students individually as needed, something that has been a huge benefit for my family. I'm so happy to have found the right school for us, especially knowing that my kids can thrive there all the way through 8th grade!

Received a call on a Friday from the admissions manager that they would be out on Monday when actually they were out for the week on a mission trip. I followed up and their backup had no clue about our family or what was going on. The vice principal told them to tell us we would hear from them shortly. Then we received a letter from the principal late on the Friday afternoon before Spring Break that after "prayer" they could not (would not/did not want to) meet our sons need. The letter was very condescending and came off as if the principal and staff where the only ones with a prayer life. When I followed up on what was the factual basis of their decision and why we were never afforded our interview. The principal was not forthcoming with details. My husband and I take the Blessing of being on this parenting journey as a way to honor Gods greatest gift (children). So, when I asked for feedback it was a sincere ask to see if we could better meet our sons needs. The principal NEVER addressed why we were not granted our interview or provided feedback. We did everything we were asked and paid the fee only to be refused a complete application/interview process. There are other schools with better ethical practices, honest, and truly representative of the Christian values that Jesus asks of us. Not their skewed and narrow minded view of Christianity!!

We were in their wonderful homeschool program before we started attending there full time. We have one child also in their special education program and he is thriving! They care not just about their education, but about discipleship, and helping build future Christian leaders. Having that early start made the transition into Kinder so much easier--for him and for me--because he already knew the teachers, routines, and campus. We've truly loved every teacher he's had; they've all been so kind, caring, and supportive. I really appreciate how they not only focus on academics but also help with social situations, like when he's had little playground or line issues with friends. The growth I've seen in him has been incredible--he's already learning and doing so much more than I expected, thanks to the strong foundation he got in preschool and Pre-K. Most importantly, he's happy, confident, and loves coming to school each day. I couldn't ask for a better experience and am so excited to see how he continues to grow this year.
