We stopped here on our way to Flagstaff/Sedona road trip…read more I always appreciate small town coffee shop so this Wired Coffee resonated with me so much. It's in an old building that's a market place so the coffee shop somewhat looks a bit inconspicuous so I recommend using your navigation system to guide you (especially for an out-of-towner like me/us) as the signage is not so visible. Once inside, the shop is located in the center of the spacious market place. The space also has a stage for band performances and a shop that sells some nickknack of things. A quiet young man mans the coffee shop. He wasn't overly friendly and yet his bashful demeanor was accompanied by a solid professionalism. Service thus checks. We needed something simple: 4 shots of espresso with a side of pumpkin spice shot so we could concoct our own iced latte (as we already had half and half in our cooler; liked I said, we are currently on our road trip to Flagstaff/Sedona so we had some grocery items with us.) I was simply amazed as to how much everything was: exactly $4 for the shots and the side pumpkin spice syrup. This pretty much NEVER happens in where we live anymore (we live in Denver). I'd say this is what we get (not always but in some to many cases) in a small town that quietly serves the town folks. Cortez is in the southwestern corner of the state where it might not attract a lot of people/tourists in general but if you ever drive through it and decide that you'd need a good place for coffee then this place is worth a try.

I am not a huge fan of places advertising "ceremonial grade matcha" so we avoided the matcha lattes (matcha isn't even graded in this way in Japan, it just feels like clunky Western marketing?) I got the smoked trout and my friends got the avocado toast and a quiche lorraine - all absolutely delish! The bakery case looked super enticing but we were stuffed after brunch. I heard from one of my friends who (Mancos local) that Moondog specializes in French pastries. If I'm ever back to visit, I'll definitely have to give their pastries a try! The person who welcomed us when we first stepped in was super friendly. Otherwise, the servers were a little bit short with us and not the friendliest (we asked for a carafe of water, said thank you so much when it arrived, and the waitress said nothing and simply glared at us).
