Vegan kebaps are a big thing in Berlin…read more These come in two designs. While some establishments serve both, it is not uncommon to have a kebap place to have one version but not the other. The two versions are: 1) Serve a kebap made of seitan Often there will be a sign in front of the restaurant specifying both vegan and seitan. 2) Serve a non-meat kebap adding vast amounts of grilled vegetables to the sandwich. Here the code word is Gemuse as in Gemuse Kebaps. Gemuse means vegetables. Seitan or vegetables, you can't go wrong either way. * * * Gemuse Kebap and Friends is in the second school. No Seitan appears on their menu. For the record, no beef appears on their menu either. Your choices are chicken in various forms, falafel, grilled halloumi cheese, and simple vegetables straight up. Their product is outstanding. I had a halloumi cheese kebap (with a ton of vegetables). My wife had an all gemuse kebap - vegetables being the name of the game. * * * Both sandwiches were outstanding. The vegetables involved were tomatoes, onions and insanely good peppers. (The North Sea coast grows some of the best sweet red peppers on the planet. Most of those peppers come from the Dutch side.) There were sauces on the sandwich, but basically what was carrying both versions was the vegetables being copious and seriously seriously good. For what it is worth, grilled halloumi cheese is bland comfort food. The cheese picks up some of the taste of the grill. But mostly the cheese just adds heft and protein. Heft and protein are good things. * * * A lot of kebap places are real hole in the wall places. The interiors are modest, occasionally bordering on the grungy. You sit outside on folding chairs. Gemuse Kebap and Friends has better real estate. It has two "shop slots" rather than one - not a rarity but always welcome. You can sit indoors in a setting not unlike a good fast food place. And if you absolutely positively have to sit outdoors rather than indoors, There are tables on the sidewalk where you can eat too. * * * Overall, a first rate place. Is this a place for destination dining with your most important business client? In that case, you want some place fancier. But if you and a bunch of friends want to drink beer and eat well while goofing around, I recommend Gemuse Kebap and Friends enthusiastically.

The falafels were fried to order, which I appreciate. After the falafels were ready, the gentleman working put them in a wrap and then went to the bar of vegetables and toppings in front of me. He added hummus, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and I think a spicy mustard. After he finished stuffing the wrap, he rolled it up and placed it on a grill press for a few minutes. My falafel wrap was delicious and full of flavors and textures! Starting with crunchy! It had a big crunch from the grilled wrap. Then I got the added crunch from the falafel. It was then followed by the smooth and savory hummus. The vegetables were a perfect addition. Extra: Vegan options Open late - 3 am! A few seats inside Outdoor seating available It was authentic, inexpensive, fresh, fast, and they were open late! My falafel wrap was the best late night snack that didn't make me feel guilty or bloated the next day. Also, the service was good too! The gentleman working was kind and had great energy. We chatted for a little, it was really nice. I wish him the best of luck. If you're in the area, I highly suggest stopping by. I consider myself something of a Döner aficionado (a self-proclaimed "Dönermeister"), and My Döner…read morein Alt-Moabiter Str. ranks among my very favorite in Berlin. In fact, I would now consider it my go-to place. Over the years, I have developed a proprietary Döner rating system based on the following categories: -Bread -Meat -Sauce -Salat ...and a more general "synergy" category that tries to evaluate the overall experience of that particular Döner while also serving as a catch-all for other things like price, friendliness, value, etc. My Döner, which is owned by a wonderful Turkish-German named Mezlüt (a baker by training), earns high marks for all of these: -Bread: 4 (hot, crispy, and pretty traditional) -Meat: 5 (plentiful, tasty, and not fatty) -Sauce: 5 (the ever-elusive "Cocktailsoße") -Salat: 5 (fresh) -Synergy: 5 (all elements blended perfectly together from start to finish) When in Berlin, one naturally has the choice of quite literally hundreds of Döner stands, and I am rarely disappointed no matter where I go. But the quality of My Döner--and Mezlüt's friendliness and commitment to his craft (he enjoys his own Döner while there, after all)--not to mention the massive Döner you get here for just 3€, is my new favorite and definitely worth your attention. It doesn't have the unique veggies of Mustafa's or the hype of some other ones, but the fact is that there is no gimmick here. It is just a delicious, traditional, and masterfully assembled Döner, every time, and always with a smile. Thank you, Mezlüt!!
