I would give NO stars at all if I could. I was a customer of Merry Maids Lodi for over 20 years. Some cleaners were better than others of course. But unfortunately the quality of their service noticeably declined over the last few years and I changed to Molly Maids. So glad I did! They are so much more thorough. Some issues: 1. unreasonable cancellation policies. They can cancel the day of, but if the client gives less than 2 days' notice, they are still charged the full amount. I once dislocated a shoulder the day before a scheduled cleaning. Mallory the owner said I would still have to pay the full fee! She only backed down after I read her the riot act. I said I'd try to keep their policy in mind if I dislocate a shoulder again and would try to plan any unforeseen events 48 hours before any scheduled cleaning. Ridiculous. 2. the person managing the office, Bernice, has the worst phone skills ever. If the client has an issue, she yells at you, argues, or pretends not to understand the problem. Example: a cleaner did not take out the recycling. I called and said this was unacceptable. Bernice began yelling and said, "how is she supposed to know to take out recycling?" Well, it's next to the trash and it's in the instructions. Bizarre. 3. I said I was uncomfortable with a cleaner who was emotionally unstable and would become unhinged if I reminded her to do something like vacuum the couch. She would begin screaming hysterically. They refused to honor this request even though the cleaner made me uncomfortable with her odd behavior. They continued to send her. 4. A cleaner told me that at Christmastime, rather than give her employees a bonus, Mallory simply makes them divide up any tips received. This is very miserly and a terrible way to treat employees, if true. 5. When I cancelled, Mallory called to confirm. I said, "you do realize you're losing a longtime customer of over 20 years." Her response: "if you come back you don't get a senior discount". Wow. What a strange woman! They should not be in business. Molly Maids cleans much more thoroughly in the same amount of time. They have very reasonable rates and excellent customer service. If you are a Merry Maids client, RUN don't walk to Molly Maids. You'll be glad you did. read more

We needed our recently remodeled house cleaned before we moved in. My expectation was to have a professional service clean the house better than I could clean it and do it in one day. After talking to someone who had used Merry Maids for their house cleaning, I paid Merry Maids $635 to accomplish this objective. Merry Maids failed to meet my expectations. Admittedly, the house was very dirty and dusty. The last of the contractors had departed the previous work day leaving everything covered with dust, including the windows. A single cleaning person arrived at the expected time and departed about six hours later. As we began moving in we discovered that kitchen drawers still contained construction dirt. There were dirty spots on the floor and the windows required scraping to remove construction debris. In the future, I will find another agency to keep my house clean. read more

If I could give them a zero star, I would. I expected my kitchen floors, bathroom toilets, and stovetop to be cleaned. I expected for the covers on the 3 bedrooms i paid for to be made. Merry Maids do not provide the cleaning service they advertise or are contracted for and will leave the house dirty while charging you hundreds of dollars. My friend bought a new house and contracted Merry Maids do their deep clean service before moving in. When it came time to move in, we were shocked to find the house untouched. It was still visibly dirty. The baseboards are dusty, there are cobwebs in the corners, and there are yellow droplets all over the wall and floors around the toilets. It's not only gross but a clear indication of gross incompetence. We've contacted them and they are refusing a refund and literally called us "crazy" for asking for asking it to be refunded. They are accusing our photo evidence as falsified. This is the most unprofessional interaction I've ever had with a business. Last time we used Merry Maids (I believe a Franchise business), my wife and I noticed some actual silverware missing. Normally my wife would 'hide' anything valuable...but this one time she didn't, and within a couple of hours she noticed some fancy silver serving utensils were missing. FIRED IMMEDIATELY! Sure, they say they are bonded ... but how to prove one of their temporary 'workers' actually stole something ... unless you have a surveillance camera on them... plus ... it helps if you know spanish! read more

Wow, where do I begin? First, the non-refundable deposit of $191 no matter what should have been a red flag for me but I needed a crew to clean my move out of the house. I sign the contract then she calls me up later and says well it's too far for them to come so they will have to charge an extra $85 to have them come 10 mins past their "Territory". 10 MINS BEING CHARGED $85 for that far AFTER I SIGN THE CONTRACT Then feeling ripped off I'm stuck with the non-refundable deposit so what can I do so $485 to clean a home (The normal charge is about $200). The contract has a whole mess of if we clean this its extra etc. Like I said I needed someone in a hurry. So a few days after "Merry Failed" calls me and says they can't do the home because of staffing shortages. (My guess is they don't want to drive 10 minutes more). So I'm left without a crew but hired another from another company. If I checked the yelp reviews I would have passed "Merry Failed" and moved on so let this be a warning to you. The scam comes to mind When I had a business I would have personally been to the home cleaning because it's my business and I have to own up to what's going wrong with it. But that's just me I wish the company the best but with its track record I don't feel optimistic on its chances. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE - they do not clean, left dust everywhere, smeared my hardwood floors - I asked them to use my steam cleaner and instead used a mop or a rag with their own 'cleaner' - HORRID. The don't dust lamps... don't move furniture - so just vacuum around the middle of each room. Three of my four counter tops in my kitchen and laundry room were not clean. Two were here on Thursday and stayed an hour and 45 minutes - didn't check out with us - just left. ***Warning*** DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! Worst cleaning service company in the industry I'd experienced! By worst, I mean it's the worst experience ever! My experience, let's start from beginning to end. I needed cleaning service to get my house deep clean before handing the keys over to our buyer. Our buyer's agent recommended using them because they can come out for next day service. All the other companies we used previously were booked out for a week to two so decided to gave them a chance. Under normal circumstances I would just go with companies I used before. Call and specifically gave them all details of the home, 2300 sqft 3 bed 2 bath 2 living room and 1 kitchen. Extra service: stove, oven, 2x refrigerator, and cabinets in/out. Total came out to $1395 after $150 discounted, originally $1545 Ridiculous! All other companies came out and estimated $1100-$1200. I didn't want my buyer to wait so decided to let them work on it. They request me to pay $697.50 as deposit so I can reserve my appointment, and pay the other half after the job was completed to satisfactory. But NOPE, they came out next day and arrived with 3 people almost at noon. Started the cleaning service and ended after 6 hours. Leaving the house still a complete mess! Stove was not cleaned, Refrigerator was not cleaned, counter top was not cleaned, and grease were still all over the floors. Later on the day, they still have the guts to call and request for more money if I needed them to come back out and fix the problems they didn't good, which were all included in the $1395 estimates. They called me saying if I need those problems fix, they would need to send people out the next day at hourly rates and estimated another $1100-$1500 but also not guaranteed yet. WHAT DOES THIS SOUND LIKE TO YOU GUYS? Honestly to me, it just feels like they send people out there to sleep and get paid! Of course I wouldn't agree on paying them the additional, therefore I request to speak to their manager. But nope, never hear a word back from the manager! Now PAYMENT, earlier I mention I had to pay half for the deposit and pay the other half after they complete the job to satisfactory. But after a few calls complaining on their work and requesting them to get everything fix before I process the other payments, they just decided to charge my credit card again! DOES THAT CONSIDER FRAUD? Processing payment before me agreeing. I'm really to the point where I just want to file a fraud report to the bank for unauthorized charges, and also to board of business! As I've aged, I have difficulty cleaning my home. Paid Merry Maids of Lodi, CA $421 to complete a whole house cleaning. I scaled it back to by eliminating two bedrooms. They did a great job on the bathrooms & dusting but did a lousy job on cleaning my laminate kitchen flooring and vacuuming the living room and home office carpet. We were looking for a cleaning service to clean 2 1/2 bathrooms and the kitchen. The first time they came out for service we were charged $240 for a thorough cleaning because we never used their service before. Just over a month later they were to come out and do a basic cleaning of the same areas and we were told it would be $175, still pretty pricey but they are supposed to be reputable. As with all their services they want half the charge up front as a deposit, I understand why now, so we paid the $87.50. The cleaners showed up on the day of the service and within 5 minutes the cleaners were telling me that "the office" was going to charge $240 again for the service, even though we had a printed invoice from Merry Maids with the original $175 quote on it. The cleaners said it was because it was not within one month of the last cleaning (this would have been brought up when we were setting up the 2nd cleaning and we were not advised of it). The cleaning lady said that she's been working for the company for 3 years and this problem doesn't surprise her, it wouldn't be the first time. We were given the option of paying $240 or letting them go without providing the service agreed upon. We told them we would not pay the $240 again, and the cleaners left without a problem, all smiles. When we spoke to the main office we were told that the cleaning lady said there was just too much work and they would need to charge for a thorough cleaning again. Not sure who's lying to us... Now Merry Maids does not want to refund the initial deposit. So this company and cleaners are using bait and switch practices to dupe customers out of their deposits. Save yourself from getting screwed over by these scam artists and go with ANY other company but this one! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I hired Merry Maids to clean my newly purchased house before we moved in. The cleaners did a comically terrible job. Baseboards still dusty, generations of cobwebs in the corners, oven filthy, cabinets thick with grime, unidentifiable yellow spots in the bathrooms, window tracks black with years of accumulated dirt, windows dirty and just dust and dirt everywhere. We contacted the local branch that sent the maids and they were less than helpful. They had the audacity to literally call us crazy for requesting a refund for services clearly not rendered. They told us that they had someone out to 'audit' the work of the cleaners half way through and the auditor claims that it was being cleaned properly. The house was cleaned on a Wednesday and we arrived the next morning on Thursday. Fortunately we were able to do a walk through at that point and photograph the dirt and missed work. When presented with the photographs, Merry Maids implied they were forged or altered and not viable proof. We are SO outraged over the terrible customer service and absolutely miserable job that Merry Maids has provided. SAVE YOUR MONEY! Hire ANYONE else to clean your house. Maybe other Merry maids are different but this one here did not work out and I would never recommend them. They cleaned my bathroom, tile, toilet, tub, my kitchen, even a small over the counter oven I rarely washed. This particular franchise, Merry Maids, service Elk Grove, Galt and Lodi. They were horrible. When the manager first came to my home she was polite and friendly. She told me about all of the services I would be getting if I chose their services. Upon the first visit the girls came and cleaned my home, they seemed honest and friendly. I had one person assigned to my house named Leslie and of course she brought help. They did a pretty good job cleaning- so I thought. A few days later I saw things that was ignored and not cleaned. It was okay since they were coming back in two weeks. The second week the same thing. I thought my house was being cleaned properly, but not. Often times things would go unnoticed because I may not utilize a room that much or think to look in certain places. What eventually happened is my toilet and floor around the toilet started to get build-up in the master. I asked Leslie was she cleaning the toilet and mopping the floor and she would say yes. I asked her every visit and she would say yes. It bothered me so much after several visits, that I decided to see for myself. Just to test it out I took a paper towel, wet it and wiped the floor around the toilet, I wiped so much build-up off until it was freighting. I did the same for the toilet, I took the brush and as soon as I swished the build-up came off instantly. I had no cleaner on the paper towel or in the toilet. The upstairs guest bath toilet seat was the same. But I didn't notice until much later. Here is the absolute worst- as one of the young ladies began to clean the kitchen, I asked her not to forget the lamps that drops over the counter. She said okay and picked up a towel from her bucket and started wiping. She never went toward the sink but yet her towel was wet. I asked her how the towel she was using was wet? She mumbled something and I asked her again. She told me it was a towel she used in the bathroom. I said, "oh no sweetheart you can't use a towel in the kitchen that you used in the bathroom!" She huffed and got a clean towel. I am very kind and respectful toward all of the girls. To top it off, on the onset of all of this I gave Leslie and one of her crew members a hefty tip. I had know idea she was lying to me. She seemed so sweet and honest. I can go on and on about the manager and her staff dishonesty but you get the picture. What I will say is one of the young ladies I tipped was quitting, my house was her last job. She did a great job and that is why I tipped her. She told me that she could no longer work for a company that tell their staff to take short cuts in cleaning someone's home. We scheduled a deep cleaning of our house for $400. We have done this in the past and 2 women have been sent every time. I was there when the cleaner got there and there was only one person. I asked her why she was alone with such a big job. She said she'd be there for 6 hours. I figured that was ok. When I got home, we noticed that the house was not as clean as usual. The blinds weren't done, the baseboards weren't done, one of the dressers in the bedroom wasn't done as there was still dust on the surface as well as the tv. My wife and I couldn't see how the amount of work done would've been 6 hours. I would've been fine if this cleaning was only $100 or even $150 but this was definitely not a $400 cleaning. When we called to complain we were told that the cleaner would be talked to to see what happened. We then received a letter in the mail saying they were sorry we were unhappy and gave us a card for $50 off our next cleaning. That is not acceptable to me as a cleaner should've come back out to take care of what wasn't done. Now you want me to spend more money with your company? No thank you. read more
