This is pretty close to my daughter school, so we have been popping in here for after school treats quite a bit lately. I'm such a sucker for the eclair pastries. They are truly perfection! Honestly, everything here that we have tried has been really good. The brownies are moist, the cookies are full of flavor, and the pies have beautifully flaky cracked with delicious flavors in the middle. The staff here, at least by the end of the day when we tend to pop in, seem a little grouchy. Compared to the Riverside or east Tulsa locations, they don't really seem like they're happy to be at work. It's pretty dark inside, and I wish there was more seating in the main bakery area. It does feel a bit disjointed inside, but we usually just grab our treats and eat them in the car. read more

We will come about once a week to buy some decorated sugar cookies. We always let them know the number we want before they grab the box and are usually given a large cake box or a donut box to fit the six cookies we always order. Today after paying $30 for the decorated cookies I was very disappointed to see that the lady had stacked the cookies on top of each other to fit them all in a smaller box. This was my first time to visit this Tulsa staple. It was good but I wasn't overly impressed with the quality. We specifically went for cupcakes and breakfast. What a great bakery!!! After a slight wait I had to choose several since I couldn't make up my mind! I live in OKC and was in Tulsa on business so I had to make several choices for myself & wife. Tried the Cream Puff tonight - outstanding!! Also chose the Cheese Cake, Italian Creme Cake, Christmas cookies and a dog treat! They travelled well and are currently in the fridge. I like this location more than the Riverside location. The worker was much more accommodating and kind and gave great descriptions of the baked goods. Ambience is bustlin'. My friend got the giant fried cinnamon roll that's essentially a giant donut cinnamon roll (bigger than my face), which was fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness and cinnamon. I got a cheese danish, which was about as big as my face and was delicious. Cream cheese was really sweet, but is amazing with some milk and with the pastry itself to balance it out. They also have breakfast and lunch items if you want something a little more savory. I've always had positive experiences with the staff and how quickly they can move customers through. We are staying from out of town and found this bakery within walking distance of our VRBO. All I can say is WOW! The place is what you'd hope a great bakery would be--beautiful displays of every kind of pastry, cake and cookie imaginable. And so far all we've ordered has been top-notch. This is Trudy. We went to Merritt's just after 3 today. We wanted to split a sandwich and were rudely told they don't do sandwiches after 3; politely telling us would have been so much better. Found sausage rolls; got those; not offered a plate. A woman was waiting at the counter with her "treats"; she had paid cash and was waiting for her $4 in change. Apparently no one working there knew had to deal with a cash order. She stood there while we ate and finished our very sad pathetic sausage rolls (all roll; small sliced sausage). Two people came out from the back; walked over to the woman; then walked back to the back. Eventually one of them came out with the $4 for the woman. So, Merritt's Bakery; your employee that helped us was rude and obviously not the least bit interested in helping us. How can your employees have no clue how to handle change (it was $4; no pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters); simply $4. We would never have expected this kind of behavior from your employees. Merritt's is such a nostalgic place for me! When I was really little, we'd go there for donuts a lot on Saturday mornings. It was always fun, and now that's what I think of every time I drive by there, or every time I get something from there. I've seriously never had something from here that I didn't like. Not even anything that I didn't REALLY like! I honestly don't think you could go wrong with ordering anything here!!! I can't speak for their more non-bakery stuff (like sandwiches) but I'm sure they're great too. I remember this one time in high school, my English teacher wanted to give us a treat for some reason. So she orders cupcakes from Merritts for the class. I'm not kidding I think it's still one of (if not the) the best cupcake I've had! The cake part was yummy, but I think it was the icing that really "took the cake" ;). It was substantial, yet fluffy, and had a great flavor. It also looked great from a decoration standpoint too. I went into Merritt's to get a doughnut. I got a cake doughnut with frosting. I asked for a white milk but they were out. I jokingly asked how can you be out of milk? You're a donut shop. I didn't realize I was talking to the manager. She kinda got a little snitty later when I got my donut out of the bag I discovered she had put my doughnut frosting side down pressed into the bag so when I picked it up half the frosting came off. Service at this midtown location is severely lacking. I feel how she packed. My donut was on purpose. That's just crappy service if you don't want to be in customer service don't be. read more

Everyone in Tulsa just seems to love Merritt's Bakery and it's great. I don't know if it's the best bakery but the cakes are just too sweet and there's not really an option to control the sweetness either. However, all American bakeries in general are just too sweet, so it's not just Merritt's I am singling out. Because of the sweetness level, I prefer Asian bakeries as a result. I had a free coupon for a breakfast roll from here I got from the Tulsa library adult reading program. So I ran over on my lunch break from work. The guy told me which ones I was eligible for and when he mentioned the fried cinnamon roll and I asked what it was he didn't really give me a response. So I got the regular cinnamon roll instead. I don't know if it was a little bit stale or what but it really didn't have a lot of taste. I cut it in half and the middle part which should be the most flavorful still was but it really didn't taste that cinnamony and like I said it tasted kind of stale. So this wasn't the best experience and doesn't really have me chomping at the bit to go back. But a lot of people really like this place so I'm sure I will go again. read more

Last week we ordered the Lemon Rasberry cake to celebrate me and my sister's birthdays. We were so excited for this cake since we all love lemon and rasberry. What a total disappointment!! This was truly one of the worst cakes I've EVER had. The cake itself did not taste like lemon, there was hardly any rasberry filling between the layers, and the frosting . . . . I don't even know what that was. Pink and waxy, with no flavor is the best description I can give. Other than a few bites, the entire cake got thrown away! Such a waste of money. A great little bakery. My daughter goes to school right around the corner from here and it's easily become one of our favorite spots in Tulsa for a "sweet treat" after a long week of work and school. Okay, so in Tulsa we don't really have many options for bakeries. Merrits is hit or miss a lot, sometimes the deserts are SOOOOO GOOD. And then like today, got a cream puff, it looked SOOO GOOD. I love cream puffs! So took it home, and felt it to see if it was soft. Hard as a ROCK. Frosting on the inside was also hard, it was absolutely inedible. I would 10000% not recommend coming later in the day to get a cream puff, maybe that was my mistake. Unfortunately everything they have is out in the open, where as the cookies are REALLY amazing, the cream puff suffered. And maybe it was old, I'm just not sure. But for $4 I was really sad I couldn't eat any of it. The people who work at Merrits are SUPER nice and wonderful, the only complaint I even have is that sometimes when I get items, and I can't come when they open as I work mornings, that things are really stale. Had chocolate chip cookies today though and they are always AMAZING, never had a bad one!! Just learned my lesson, no more cream puffs read more

This is my favorite bakery in Tulsa. Every childhood cake I ever had came from Merritt's. I no longer live in Tulsa but I recently got married and knew I needed to incorporate Merritt's into my day in some way. I had a cake wall for guests to eat cake before the ceremony and asked them to do 80 petit fours for the wall.
