She has a friendly, bubbly personality. It would be helpful if the items had description tags so I didn't have to keep asking what flavor something was. But other than that I was happy with the variety of baked goods to choose from. I got, a slice of cheesecake, Mini Chocolate pie, cheese danish, cherry turnover, brownie, 2 cake pops, lemon square and a slice of carrot cake. My experience with ordering and receiving a certain "Tres Leches" cake from Merrit's Riverside was already reviewed based on service, cake appearance, and facility cleanliness. However I now feel that I have to review the Cake itself. I personally had never experienced a Tres Leches Cake but I had read up on and received accounts from friends and family on what to expect. My Daughter, her fiance, and my future in-laws were expected a moist milky cake with amazing flavors. Instead it appears that We received was a vanilla cake, with whipped cream icing, and fruit on top. The cake was dry in areas with barely any flavor at all. This is my 3rd cake from Merrit's Riverside this year, at the request of my wife, because she says the cakes "were good there before" and we want to support the local community but no longer. For nearly $100 I would expect the cake to be what it should have been. You could have fooled me because I'm Irish but you can't fool the in-laws who are Latino. read more

My fiancee was born & raised in Tulsa. She also passed away very suddenly & unexpectedly. She & her family had been loyal customers for decades. Today I called them(I live out of state)as I have done in the past to place an order. I was going to pay for an assortment of Valentine's Day cookies & have my sister-in-law pick them up. I was told that because it was a holiday, they would not take a phone order. Can't go wrong with Merritt's! Staff are always friendly and able to recommend items. If you get a chance to try breakfast do it! They have a whole selection of sandwiches and other hot breakfast items. My favorite pastry right now has got to be the almond croissant. The donuts are always good and so are the cookies. We were flying back from San Antonio to Tulsa on my wife's birthday, so I called Merritt's Bakery a day or two ahead of time and arranged to have them make and deliver a Lemon Raspberry Cake to the hotel where we were spending the night in Tulsa. I believe the lady I spoke to on the phone was Kim or Kay. She was extremely pleasant and really helpful. She took my order and answered all my questions and really made me feel like a valued customer. As for the cake itself. WOW! My wife (and everyone else who had some), loved it! The sponge was moist and flavorful with just the right amount of lemon to give it some tang but not make it astringent. You then add in the raspberry layers and the raspberry frosting which perfectly balanced the lemon and you have one amazing cake. We have some good cake shops in North West Arkansas but as good as this cake was next time I need a good cake there is a good chance I will consider the near 2 hour drive to Tulsa to get a cake from Merritt's! read more

Let's start with the service. Dreadful. Cookie selection is pedestrian. Chocolate chip, peanut butter, snicker doodle, M&M'S - bland, boring. They had a bunch of cakes and pies in the display case. There were cupcakes and donuts. I'm thinking that all of this stuff that other reviewers write about is removed right before I walk in. They see me coming and out comes the garbage. A yeast donut should be light, fluffy, not dense and gooey. I tried a cupcake and it was average at best. I think Bird Bakery in Texas is better than Sprinkles, so when I compare the texture of the crumb as well as the frosting, this is what I'm comparing it to. It's great to have a decent pastries store in the south riverside / Jenks area. The needs are great in that neighborhood for sure. This place is clean and always busy. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I was gonna buy just a few pastries to satisfy my wife's craving but I ended up with 2 large boxes. Well, they look so darn good and have so many options to choose from! We have tried quite a few of the pastries by now, what we like are the most (5 stars) are the bacon chive scone, tiramisu, wedding cookie and caramel topping with coconut thumbprint. The 4 stars ones are 7 layers bar, lemon poppyseed muffin, cannoli, pecan sandies cookie, sugar cookie. What we don't care too much are the lemon bar because the lemon curd isn't tart enough, too doughy and the crust is not buttery at all. Wanted to try out another bakery place in Tulsa so went with this one. Wasn't too impressed. They did have a wide selection of treats (pies, cakes, cupcakes, cookies, bars, brownies, etc). I got a few of their Christmas decorated sugar cookies and a gingerbread cookie. The decorated sugar cookies had WAY too much frosting on them. The ratio of cookies to frosting was way off. The cookie was too thin and too crunchy. All you could really taste was sugary frosting. And the gingerbread cookie was almost stale tasting and had no flavor. Not very much frosting on this one compared to the sugar cookies. I was a bit sad about this cause I really wanted to like this place! So many options and it actually all looked delicious but it just didn't deliver for me... I'd possibly give it another try and get a cake or pie or something different than a cookie. read more

I usually order my cakes ahead but this time bought a cake out of the case on Tuesday to serve a group that evening, as they had been closed Sunday-Monday. It was a chocolate round cake with whipped cream in between layers. I noticed it was dry when I began eating it but was hoping it was just me. Unfortunately none of my guests finished their cake. It was just so bad. Very disappointing. I asked the manager if the cakes were baked fresh daily, and he said yes. No way it was baked Tuesday morning, I think this one had been sitting for 2-3 days. Even at that it shouldn't have been that dry. When I finally decided to call to nicely let them know (not asking for any reimbursement), all I got was "I'll let them know" from the manager. If you're ever in Tulsa and looking for something sweet this is the place for you. Traveled up from OKC and looking for somewhere to eat and ran into Merritt's. Didn't go for lunch, even though they do have sandwiches etc. as the group we had would have been a bit much, toddlers and 9 of us however something sweet after everyone was in. From pastries, doughnuts, cookies, cakes, pies, and even croissants this is a must stop. Cherry filled doughnut check, Almond croissant check, vanilla, blueberry, cherry macaroons check, chocolate eclair check and this was just the 3 in my group. Mini key lime pie, sugar cookies, cake pops from my daughters family. The list goes on my regret not taking pictures before everything was gone but trust me it was all fantastic. The bad thing is they're a couple hours away or maybe that's good because I'd definitely be there 3+ times a week! read more

So they have really good pastries, but I ordered a birthday cake about two weeks ago and I had 20 people at my birthday party and every single person decided to pass on the cake. There was this chemically taste in the cake and it tasted like the lowest grade ingredients I've ever tasted. I was so surprised because merits has such a good rapport with deliciousness. It did look beautiful though. I don't know if they changed the ingredients they use but I could never go there for a birthday cake unless they changed what tasted so fake in it. Unfortunately, at this location it's the friendliness of the service that is always lacking. Wether they are rude to you or someone else in line I've seen it the last few time we have been here. Merritt's South Tulsa location is just as impressionable as the original. I actually preferred the South location. It was a little cleaner and the workers were friendlier. I was an out of town-er hosting a bridal shower in which none of the bridesmaids offered to help. Thankfully, Merritt's came to the rescue. The bakery is HUGE and looks brand new. They have a separate room for wedding cakes and a separate room for parties, or as their website says, Bible studies. The main room has tons and tons of seating and at least five large pastry cases. I dealt with Kim and she was great. She helped me get everything in order from long distance and even made suggestions. I ended up getting a breakfast tray (with delish danishes) and cupcakes. They were super cute, iced in white with purple flowers and two sliver linked wedding bands. They tasted great too, although a little sugary. My only disappointment was the lack of communication the day of. I had to continually go out and ask for things like knives, cream cheese, cups, etc. And I had asked for the food to arrive at 10:00. They said it would be there on the truck at 10:30 (I guess they don't make it there?) and I had to go ask for it at 10:50 when my guests started arriving. The other bummer....I found a hair in my cupcake. I took the hairy cupcake and the ladies apologized and offered me another one, which was nice. But....ew. Overall, while the pace of everything here differs from my bakeries in Chicago, I was happy with my experience. They don't do 3-D cakes or mini cupcakes and their quotes for flat shaped cakes were pricey even by Chicago standards. But my friend from Tulsa says this is her favorite bakery...and I'm sure if I lived there I would be at Merritt's a lot! read more

At the same time I ordered 30 vanilla cupcakes from Sam's at 50 cents each (no filling). For an extra $1.75 per cupcake from Merritt's I received a small squirt of filling in each, and extra frosting on top. My guests couldn't tell the difference in taste between the two (other than the strawberry filling) & most couldn't eat the added frosting because there was simply too much. They made an ADORABLE corgi cake for my birthday, which my boyfriend had called them to make and he surprised me with. He told me that he gave them a photo of my corgi and they matched him, same colors and everything. They are a little on the pricey side, but they're so sweet and kind when I come in. My dad loves the tiramisu which we normally always get from Merritt's for his birthday every year. Definitely a good place to go for sweets! read more

The key lime pie cake was purchased for me for my birthday. It arrived smaller than we all had anticipated. The other cakes were bigger. It was a cute cake.
