They have complimentary water but that's all they need, such a simple business plan. Small and cozy and they had the pie, probably 8 or more to choose from. Step through the doors of Common Tart and you would think you're in a quaint village neighborhood, not across the street on the back side of St. John's. While it might be off the beaten path, one can easily find it if you look for the PIE sign off Utica. It's definitely worth the U-turn! It was almost closing time when I was there but I was still able to get a slice each of the apple crumble and an orange-pistachio cream pie to go. The staff was so friendly and the interior (and exterior) is so inviting. I loved the Pride and Prejudice puzzle that was in the middle of the shop just asking to be put together. This is such a cool place. Small yet inviting and comfortable. Live music events and right now on Saturday, rhubarb crumble. Get here early because it sells out fast. My first time visiting this quaint pastry place! It's had a small seating area with maybe 5-6 tables. However, don't let the size distract you from the elegant desserts that await! We arrived after the lunchtime hour so my group of four were able to sit at the largest table. With Coconut Cream Pie being my favorite I had to have a slice and it did not disappoint!! I'm my opinion it's all about the crust then the filling. This crust was amazing and the coconut filling was perfect! I had to order a slice to go for my wife. What a Tulsa gem! I can't wait to come back here again. Common Tart is a cozy bakery with beautiful decor - there's lots of gold accents, a baby grand piano on the way in, and lots of puzzles and books to keep you occupied while you wait on your dessert! They have a list of pies behind the counter as well as on display, and they run about $7 a slice (which is like 1/5 of a full pie). I tried the Apple Crumble a la mode (warmed), and it was spicy and delicious with oats baked into the crust. My friends tried the butterscotch pie and said it was delicious! The cashier and staff were polite and service was exceptionally quick! There is a powder room at the back of the restaurant as well. The savory/sweet combo is a great lunch -- they serve different quiches, or chicken pot pie (excellent!) etc. Then you get a slice of their pie -- a selection is available all the time, and there are always a few weekly specials. Lemon Meringue is to die for!! The meringue isn't the airy plastic-y stuff you normally get. This is a gorgeous, creamy marshmallow-y meringue that is exceptional. I normally scrape the meringue off or ask for whipped cream, but this stuff is definitely worth it, and torched so beautifully! This is a sweet midtown spot owned by locals who have taken photographs of their hands at work in the kitchen and placed them on their calling cards and walls. It's such a nice touch for so many reasons. The pies are baked from scratch with their own hands and those of their loved ones. They have created a space that welcomes folks of all ages in a warm atmosphere that beckons you back. And the pie...well, it's just incredible!!! My uncle and grandfather had a mom and pop restaurant in a small TX town when I was growing up and we always said, "No-one can make a pie like Granny!" But Common Tart is proving me wrong. Granny is long gone, but every time I don the door of Common Tart, I'm reminded of what it was like to eat a piece of pie in her kitchen. This is now my new favorite dessert place in Tulsa. We stopped by for a mid-afternoon snack. Between us, we tried the pear almond tart, the chocolate silk pie, and the special buttermilk pie. The pear almond tart was beautiful with perfectly balanced flavors. The chocolate silk had a great rich, dark chocolate flavor. The person with the buttermilk pie refused to share, which I take to mean it was amazing. The vibe was also perfect. Everything was cute and simple.
