Charles has been the best tuner I've had in many, many years. He also fixed a broken hammer stem and did a fine job on it.
What impressed me when we first met was his referring to tuning pianos the old school way (tuning fork and his own ear), which differs from using an electronic tuner. He uses both, but for those who do not know or understand, the old method requires the tuner to use his ear primarily, and listen for overtones between notes of different registers to get the piano to sound "right" in all registers.
It's kinda difficult to explain, but when tuning a piano exclusively with an electronic tuner it actually will not sound all that good. You want your notes and chords to agree with one another when playing chords in different registers which will be slightly different than what a computer tuner tells you to do.
Charles does this and it sounds GREAT! :) read more
