An absolute hidden gem! From the moment we walked in through the back entrance, we were impressed by the corridor adorned with all their awards, medals, and restaurant introductions. Although the restaurant is cozy and small, it is impeccably clean and well-organized. Since we brought our child along, the staff thoughtfully brought over a high chair right away. Their service was exceptionally polite, warm, and welcoming throughout our meal. The food was wonderfully fresh, beautifully plated, and tasted delicious. So they charge extra for corvina ceviche and was served a clearly pink-fleshed fish, corvina is white flesh, not pink. When we flagged it to our waitress, she came back with the chef's response claiming it was just "a different size" of corvina. That is not how fish works. The color of the flesh does not change with size. We were lied to our faces rather than given an honest answer. Paying a premium to be deceived and then dismissed is unacceptable. We ordered a portion of anticucho (beef heart skewers), jalea de mariscos, pollo a la brasa, and picarones. If you're looking for truly authentic Peruvian cuisine, this may not be the place for you. As a Peruvian myself--very proud of my culture and our rich, flavorful cuisine--I felt the food did not meet traditional Peruvian standards. The anticucho was not grilled, and it seemed to have far too much ají especial or red Peruvian dried pepper. The jalea de mariscos was excessively dark, which suggested old oil was used, and it was quite dry. While the overall flavor was acceptable, the portions of fish and seafood were very small. The picarones (Peruvian doughnuts) were made with white flour, whereas the authentic recipe uses sweet potato and pumpkin flour; however, the syrup was good. The pollo a la brasa had good flavor but was dry, and the fried potatoes were just okay. This place used to be top-notch, but unfortunately, it no longer lives up to that reputation. But they didn't let us have a table since we were a party of 3. (Well, I saw 1 person sitting at the table. Hummm) I have to take 1 star for that. We ordered the ceviche, jalea, and macho fish. Ceviche and jalea were super good. But I don't know if they changed the recipe or the new chef. I didn't really like the macho fish. Honestly, this place is a disgrace... Not only from the food, but the service overall. 1st time and last time I'll ever go here. The lady who took my order doesn't know a lick of English, the lomo had been overcooked and had a watery taste (no flavor whatsoever) and the food is overpriced compared to quality and quantity of the food (when ordering it as take out). The next day they let me order a ceviche on the house for the inconvenience that happened that night, which is great since the ceviche was the only thing I liked so far. But when I came in after ordering the ceviche over the phone, the girl who got in trouble pretended not to know my name when I came to pick up the order, even though she placed the order over the phone. When she realized I was here to pick up the food, she then put in the order by going into the kitchen and letting the staff know to make the order. This place was definitely one that can be easily missed. The signs of the restaurant is so minimal and the doors are blacked out so I even wondered if they were open. Opening the doors to a renovated restaurant, giving a very modern feel. The staff were super friendly and kind. I liked the food. I got a lomo saltado and had asked for the meat to be cooked medium, it tasted and felt like it was cooked well done. The flavor was good/okay but the texture of some of the pieces of meat just ruined the dish for me. It was a bit hot and humid inside the restaurant as well which made the experience less enjoyable overall. A delicious taste of Peruvian cuisine in North Miami. From the strip-mall exterior you wouldn't think much of this place. However, when you walk inside this restaurant is decorated with lovely details that welcome you and create a pleasant dining experience. Every time I have visited Merkado the food has been perfect. The ceviche is authentic and fresh the causas are oh so flavorful and the anticuchos (one of the more difficult Peruvian meals to get right) always hit the spot. The only reason I'm not able to give all five stars is due to the service the last few times. The waitstaff is nice enough but I have been kept waiting on two separate occasions. Once waiting for my check for about 30 min (it was very slow) and the last time-- I was at the bar and saw my food come out to the window, the sever came and went a few times and about 15 min later brought me the food that had been left sitting. I hope they tighten up a bit and get things running a bit swifter. I'm happy to give Mercado another shot -- the food is worth it. read more

I love Peruvian food so I've been to this place a couple times. If you are driving on 163rd you will see the name of the restaurant and know where it is so you can park in the back. The back entrance is not glamorous but once you get it the decoration is really nice, there is a long hall for pick up orders where people can sit on benches while waiting. There is a host who can take you to your table once you pass the pick up area. The food was pretty good, we got the ceviche for two that includes the clasico, mixto and merkado. These include fish, shrimp, calamari and octopus. I was surprised to see that they also have a mushroom ceviche which I would like to try next time! Portions are a little small but we were OK since we were not that hungry plus they did give us a lot of canchitas (peruvian popcorn) Service was good, it wasn't too crowded so we got our food pretty fast. The lighting through the back hallway is very dim. Overall I would give a 3 stars for the room temperature and cleanliness, for being unable to cook the dish at the correct temperature. The food was great! Service also very good. There's a lot to choose from on the menu and I doubt they get much wrong. My friend and I shared two fish dishes and both were unbelievable: corvina cucho and salmon a la parilla. The corvina came with a tasty yucca mash (yucca is excellent if you haven't tried it, I describe it as a more dense potato). The salmon came with a decadent and hefty serving of pesto risotto which was wow, just wow. We shared a really light dessert as we were quite full and taking leftovers, so sharing the custard really did the trick. The fruits with it were tropical and my only criticism is that it tasted like fruit cocktail out of the can, just at the top of the custard itself. I am not sure if it was homemade to taste like that or if it indeed was from a can/jar - I kind of wish I'd have asked now just for my own curiosity. Mercado 31 used to be a one of my favorite Peruvian places to eat but unfortunately the quality of this place has gone down so much. I have given them so many chances by eating in and also ordering take out. The service in person hasn't been terrible but unfortunately the take out service is a miss every time. There's always a food item missing, or something is incomplete. It's a shame to see how this place to being one of the best Peruvian places near the NMB area to the way it is now. Oh by the way our drinks that we ordered were delicious. So our server hardly came around we had to get some other server attention which living in Miami unfortunately this is common. Anyway fast forward we're home my stomach starts to act up & my sister is in the bathroom vomiting the food. I'm going to leave it at that. As soon as I entered the bathroom smell leaked... not a good impression. We ordered fresh strawberry juice and frozen chicha morada for drinks.
