Dealing with Virgina (older Filipino lady) to do an intake is the biggest waste of time. She is so…read moreunprofessional and sloppy, it is very frustrating corresponding back and forth with her when she goes out of town so often for "family emergencies", and is the main point of contact for intake. My mother is an Air Force vet that has frontotemporal dementia. She is 63, which is a little early to be experiencing this. I went on a tour of this facility back in January, so this has been a very slow process. I told Virgina my mothers age the day of the tour where she wrote it down, as well as other details such as the current facility my mother is at. I was concerned when I would call back to check on the process that she would ask me the same questions over and over, as if Virgina is suffering from dementia herself. She has been making false promises since February when she verbally told me my mother was approved to move in the first week of march. The first week rolled around and I didn't hear anything from Virgina, so i called her direct cell where i have been getting sent to voicemail ever since because she apparently has been having back to back family emergencies or events where she goes out of town (lol). She will send you to voicemail, then ask to call back later through text. I guess this facility was rieed of my checking on the status of the placement because they finally determined today after months of deliberation that my mother is suddenly "too young". This was already after Virginia said she would be moving within a week. They knew my mother's age months ago, it seems as if they are just lazy and want to pick and choose who to care for. Glad they showed their true colors before I sent the person I love the most in the world here... if anyone can suggest facilities that are diverse and have caring staff (as my mother is black), I would be totally open to suggestions because I am starting from square one again.

She had good and bad days, and the Jasmine staff insured she had the proper care for all her needs. We first met with Lori who exudes calm sensitivity. The facility is very well maintained, always clean and fresh. The courtyard is a treasure. Thank you Virginia for leading such an outstanding team!

I've just read a review by an LK H dated June 3, 2016. They said that the care is "unbelievable…read moreinadequate". They mention that they were aware that there is not a residing doctor here and that one does come but once a week. They say that their Dad had this bad experience and yet they decided to let their mom stay here and have the same devastation as their Dad. One has to ask themself why in the world would one continue to have their parents stay here when they knew what the place was like? They said that BOTH of their parents were at this facility for years. It clearly sounds like they took no responsibility for the care of their parents and actually made the decision to leave their parents here despite their "apparent concerns". Something is suspicious about this review. Or sadly even more suspicious is the character of LK H. Now I fully understand that people have their own personal thoughts as to the type of care they want but to continue to "accept" the current level of care by leaving their relative there but then complain about it tells me there is some underlying issue that is not being exposed. I personally have seen families move their relatives to another facility or to care for them themselves and that's understandable. And I've seen families deny needed additional care for their parents and allowed them to suffer. And sadly I've heard of families that deny additional services for their parents so that they can keep the money for themselves. Maybe this was LK H's issue. I can only speculate. I've lived here for six years. What I've discovered is that the staff here is incredibly caring and nice. They go above and beyond to make the residents comfortable and especially safe. They actually listen to the residents and make great efforts to accommodate them. There is also a large volunteer community amongst the residents who hold bible studies, visit and assist the residents in skilled nursing, provide bi-weekly entertainment and shows and even teach table tennis classes. There are Mah-Jong and ukulele groups. We have plays put on by residents and resident talent shows. When residents themselves get involved in the community it reflects a healthy, vibrant atmosphere. People want to get involved. This is not the case in other retirement communities that I've researched before deciding to move here. Also, there are tons of activities organized by Atherton themselves. You can attend exercise and stretch classes, Tai-Chi classes, monthly lunch and dinner excursions, movie nights and trips to the theater, bingo, dance classes and Atherton even organizes domestic and international trips. We went to Japan last November. There are many other activities and educational seminars that I'm not mentioning. All I'm saying is do your homework. Visit many retirement communities and see what they offer before making the decision to move. Understand your financial status to make a good choice to find the right fit for you and your loved ones.

My sister had a beautiful big room with all of her things in it including her desk, computer, TV and DVD player, large bookshelves, and pictures on the walls. It really felt like her own apartment. She was unable to walk and was moved from her wheel chair to her bed in a hydraulic lift. The staff were warm and loving and always ready to do whatever she wished. She liked to do things on schedule so they helped her to set up a daily plan. Every member of the staff was friendly, patient, and kind. They listened to her requests and and appreciated her humor and wit. She enjoyed the home cooked food that was prepared for her and the other residents. And, in good weather often was taken outside to eat lunch or look at the beautiful, quiet garden. When she was first there she joined in exercises every day after breakfast. Our family visited her often and on occasion would take her out to the gazebo in the garden for an ice cream treat or special lunch. We enjoyed having Vanessa celebrate all the holidays in a big way. We had the Easter Bunny visit, visiting musicians, Fourth of July Flags, and Treats for Halloween. We all were very pleased with everything and everyone there. We were fortunate indeed to have found such a wonderful place for my sister to live out her last days. I heartily recommend this very special Board and Care home.

The staff was so lovely and accommodating and as we walked around I noticed that they had at least twice as many staff as I've seen at the other places we've explored. It really made me feel reassured that my family member would be very well taken care of. My mom was also very pleased with the idea of having her own room, and since she loves to garden in her free time, the nurses assured her that she was more than welcome to get her hands dirty if she wanted to. I really wanted to find a place where my mom can feel at ease and happy but where she can still be looked after, especially in an emergency. I think we've found the perfect place.

Up until a month ago, Grandpa continued his daily routines of stretching, gardening, walking, exercising, socializing, driving, and investing in his stocks. The past month has been an emotional rollercoaster with Grandpa suffering from a fall fracturing his vertebra, a recent heart attack, and the discovery of aggressive cancer. Miraculously, we planned an intimate wedding at Grandpa's nursing facility within less than 24 hours of him being admitted. As our ring bearer, Grandpa held our family heirloom ring pillow Grandma Ginni (the same grandparent that passed in hospice at Villa Gardens in 2018) sewed for my mom's wedding in 1992. Before Grandpa passed, he signed our marriage license certificate as our witness. Although I'm brokenhearted Grandpa Ken couldn't get medically cleared to attend our larger wedding we've planned for 1.5 years on June 8, I'm grateful we could fulfill his dying wish to see his granddaughter married thanks to your wonderful staff including Irma!
