This is a beautiful trail, my wife showed me this little trail for my daily run and it is a great place to do that. Lots of beautiful scenery, the trail is nice and flat which makes it perfect for the little ones who are in strollers and who's parents need a peaceful time outside.

Meriden Linear Trails is a very nice paved, smooth trail for a leisurely walk or for people with children who can't handle a rough hike. We were presented with zero challenges since it was completely flat so I wouldn't describe this as hiking in any way. There is a beautiful lake here for fishing, I'm not sure if camping is allowed. We did find a trail leading around the lake, which would be considered easy hiking but it wasn't marked and we did have an older family member with us and felt it was smarter to stick to the paved trail. All in all I would recommend this trail to dog walkers, strollers, wheelchairs, children, or anyone looking for a nice evening stroll. Remember, this is Connecticut, so use bug spray!!

This is a 1.5 one way trail starting in Meriden that follows the Quinnipiac River into Cheshire and sits in the old railroad bed of the Meriden, Waterbury & Connecticut River Railroad. This was phase 1 of the Linear Trail project in Meriden, phase 2 is set to begin later this year around Hanover Pond adding another 1.2 miles. This is longer than the trail in Wallingford and to me, it's definitely a lot nicer. You are always walking alongside the river and some of the views of the water are spectacular. This trail is also paved with a few more twists and turns but it is a little narrower than the path in Wallingford. During certain times (Weekends, spring, summer, early fall), there can be a lot of volume on this trail and you will dodge dogs, baby carriages, kids on bikes with inattentive parents and people who walk in groups of like 16 wide and therefore will block your path. Either come early in the morning or late in the afternoon. I've found it to be a lot less congested in the late afternoons. This trail also has some interesting historical spots explaining some of the famous crashes along the railway, the history of some of the crumbling bridges and of course, history of the famous red bridge. You can also fish along the trail and can put in a canoe. I actually am aiming to do that or put my kayak in this summer. The Linear Trail Committee and Meriden Parks and Rec does a fantastic job with the upkeep of this trail. I have no complaints as it's five minutes from my home in Yalesville and a great place for walking, running and biking. I like running along this trail as it's a great prep trail for 5k training. There are 3 parking lots as well: One by the red bridge right off River Road in Meriden, another bigger lot off Oregon Road about a quarter of a mile up and then one at the end of the trail off Fischer Road in Cheshire.

Crystal-clear water + sunny spring day = perfect hike…read more Spent a beautiful spring sunny day at Wadsworth Falls State Park, and it did not disappoint. I took so many pictures of the clear river. It's seriously that stunning. The swimming water vanished. We hiked the Wadsworth Falls Loop (3.6 miles, easy, great waterfall views) and also checked out part of the Main Trail. Trails were in good shape; just a little mud here and there, but totally manageable. Bonus tips from my visit: · Dogs welcome on leash · Free for CT-registered cars; $10-15 for out-of-state · Restrooms, parking, and picnic tables available · Get there early on a sunny day to beat the crowds If you love clear water, peaceful forest walks, and two distinct waterfalls, don't miss this spot. Already planning to come back with an all-terrain wheelchair for a friend (you can reserve one in advance). Would I go again? 100%.

If you have the right footwear in winter, it's a place for a rewarding hike! Boots and grips and the occasional side stepping is good for your winter trip. Mind the tracks, or crews tending the still in-use tracks, then enjoy the lovely views of multiple waterfalls, some frosted over, but water audibly rushing beneath the ice. Starting out, we didn't see the blue trail marked on the yellow and orange junction map, but the trails were well-marked with vertical tree blazes, so if you take the orange, yellow, or blue trails, you should be in good shape. If you don't have the time for a decent hike and just need a restful stop, large falls are just below the parking lot (those no access signs on the trails don't kid!). All year, enjoy! There are zero facilities here, and the only amenities appear to be accessible recreation and a dog waste station beneath the parking lot, but you aren't in the middle of nowhere. Pack in, pack out, and enjoy as much or little woods as you like, and enjoy the peaceful sounds and sights of the many falls.
