Crystal-clear water + sunny spring day = perfect hike…read more Spent a beautiful spring sunny day at Wadsworth Falls State Park, and it did not disappoint. I took so many pictures of the clear river. It's seriously that stunning. The swimming water vanished. We hiked the Wadsworth Falls Loop (3.6 miles, easy, great waterfall views) and also checked out part of the Main Trail. Trails were in good shape; just a little mud here and there, but totally manageable. Bonus tips from my visit: · Dogs welcome on leash · Free for CT-registered cars; $10-15 for out-of-state · Restrooms, parking, and picnic tables available · Get there early on a sunny day to beat the crowds If you love clear water, peaceful forest walks, and two distinct waterfalls, don't miss this spot. If you have the right footwear in winter, it's a place for a rewarding hike! Boots and grips and the occasional side stepping is good for your winter trip. Mind the tracks, or crews tending the still in-use tracks, then enjoy the lovely views of multiple waterfalls, some frosted over, but water audibly rushing beneath the ice. Starting out, we didn't see the blue trail marked on the yellow and orange junction map, but the trails were well-marked with vertical tree blazes, so if you take the orange, yellow, or blue trails, you should be in good shape. If you don't have the time for a decent hike and just need a restful stop, large falls are just below the parking lot (those no access signs on the trails don't kid!). All year, enjoy! There are zero facilities here, and the only amenities appear to be accessible recreation and a dog waste station beneath the parking lot, but you aren't in the middle of nowhere. Pack in, pack out, and enjoy as much or little woods as you like, and enjoy the peaceful sounds and sights of the many falls.

Without this sign I would never know there was a dog park in this area. This location is a bit strange. This is located behind a school. Well, the school is no longer active. St. Brigid St. Augustine Partnership School has been closed for almost five years. The rear of the former school has a nice sized dog park. It is fenced with the rules posted on the outside of the fence. The rules are pretty standard. My pup and I were the only ones here. The park is divided into two parks, one is for little dogs, which is where we were and the other is for larger dogs. Jude had such a fun time running around, and of course sniffing every single corner. There are a lot of wood chips all over the park, which undeniably ended up all over Jude's hair, and eventually all over my car. There's not much to it, but if you need to exercise your high energy / young pup and you don't want to drive all the way to Canton, Glastonbury, Wethersfield or Rocky Hill (dog parks where we typically go), bring a chuck it, a bowl, and water and you should be able to tire him/her out at this park. Lots of wood chips cover the surface of the dirt, there are poop bags in a dispenser after you come into the entrance, and loads of old tennis balls can be found lying around the ground. I just wish there was another large garbage bin inside the fenced in area of the park instead of just one right outside the entrance. I went for a second time today with Momo and both times I met the loveliest people with friendly dogs. There's also a separate fenced area for smaller dogs. This park is super convenient if you live on the more southern end of Wallingford. If you don't, it's literally right off the highway. There's a parking lot which has plenty of spots. What I like the most about this park (compared to Hamden) is the small dog side is larger and more out-in-the-open. You can sit in the sun or sit in the shade. Park is very clean and there are plastic containers filled with plastic bags in case you don't bring your own waste bags. There are some large water bowls, but visitors have to provide their own water (one perk of the Hamden park is they had hoses and running water for the dogs). Everyone I've met at the park has been very friendly. They even had an agility course yesterday on the large dog side of the park that looked fun. While the weather is still nice I've been bringing my dog here a few days a week and he seems to enjoy it. The park also has the double-gate entryway so it keeps dogs safe from running out. And in front is one of those little free book libraries in case you're so inclined. (Books for humans, not dogs).
