I paid for Mercury Mastering online and paid an extra $25 for Rush Mastering. I had a strict deadline to meet and it clearly states "24 Hours" on their website. I have already been charged $100 and it has been 4 days with no response or track. I missed my deadline and had to pay for another studio to master my track. Meanwhile, Mercury Mastering still has my money and has yet to acknowledge my existence. If you don't want to get scammed, don't use Mercury Mastering. read more

I really had a great experience at Mercury! I went with the stem mastering option because they said it would ultimately sound better and they were right. It blew me away and was significantly better than regular mastering that i received in the past. The customer service was also really good--it was easy to communicate by email and i got my song back in a timely fashion. I didn't need any revisions but it's nice to know that they offer them for free. If I had to some it up, it's all about sound quality and excellent customer service. I regret to be writing this review, but I feel as though I'm out of options. I chose Mercury Mastering to master my most recent album in part because of their claim of being "Grammy Award-winning", as well as the guaranteed 110% money back if I wasn't satisfied. After being initially excited about receiving the masters back, I spent time evaluating the work in depth and found that there was a number of things I disliked about the masters, and a round of revisions didn't solve anything to my ears. I decided that their work was different enough from what I was aiming for (and I felt the quality was sub-par to what their website suggests about their work) so I indicated my intention to take the work to another studio. The refund process supposedly began back in January, and I have yet to receive a penny back. Blake has said it's likely a problem with Stripe or his bank, but I haven't seen any evidence that the refund was processed. I recognize it's not an overnight process, but we're now at the end of March and I believe it's possible Blake simply doesn't want to refund my money, even though his website specifically states that refunds will be given with no questions asked. I haven't heard back from Blake in a few weeks. Forget 110% back... I just want back the money I paid. read more

From our initial contact with Mercury Mastering, we could tell that Blake knew what he was doing. He was very responsive to all of our communications, guiding us through our second mastering project like we were beginners. It had been five years since we last had to have a CD mastered and a lot has changed in that time, so we were essentially beginners again. Blake was patient and helpful throughout the process, and even did all of the embedding of codes and information so that it would be ready for duplication. Now to the sound ... Blake achieved a cleanness, richness, and warmness that had been missing from the previous recordings. This recording has the appropriate loudness and balance along with a good punch. Also, very importantly, Blake and Mercury Mastering got the mastering right the first time unlike the Bernie Grundman Studios where I had to send it back TWICE. Mercury Mastering definitely stands out from the competition, not just in industry standard equipment, but in talent as well. Blake has the ability to take any mix and bring out the best in it to make it sound as commercially viable as possible. Prior to sending my mix to Blake, the biggest struggle my engineer and I were facing was getting the mix to sound punchy, making my vocals stand out and be the focal point of the song, and also eliminating the harshness of the mix at loud volumes. We decided to send it over to Blake and lo and behold, all 3 of those problems were solved!! It came back sounding absolutely amazing ... punchy, loud, clean, bright, and clear at loud volumes. This is the 3rd project I've worked with Blake on, and I'll definitely be coming back for my next one. Blake is extremely professional and such a nice guy to deal with. Mastering. There comes a point in your recording career when you realize the value of this process. To have Fresh ears listen to your project, to glue the tracks together, pull the best out each mix, and make the track as cohesive as it can be. That being said, I've gotten the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in the business, and Mercury is right at the top of the list. Overall, we had a poor experience with Mercury Mastering. The website claims they give: FREE Mastering Preparation Advice FREE Mastering Revisions FREE Mixing Advice FREE Sample 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed Standard Turnaround Time 2-7 Business Days Well, we got none of those. Our original mastered song and two revisions took multiple weeks each when the website says 2-7 business days. We were not happy with the sound quality that was sent back to us. We asked for support multiple times and rather than have a phone conversation with us, we were told to just email what we wanted done. We never got any of our phone calls answered or returned aside from one of my calls got a response by email. That particular email stated that the best thing to do was to describe what we wanted done in an email. When we asked to make our song louder it actually came back softer. I have sent two emails since the last revision and haven't even got an email response back. Today I emailed them again asking to process a refund since the website also says: "We will refund 110% of your money as well if you are unhappy with your mastering, no questions asked!" We'll see how that goes. Not holding my breath. It's not about the money, though. I just hope this review makes the people at Mercury Mastering step up their customer service and address some issues that are clearly present. We are relatively new to music production and we got treated like we were new. All we wanted was some simple questions answered over the phone, but it seems like that was too much to ask for. This is my first time dealing with them and I'm already regreting using their service. I submitted my song March 7th and it's now March 19th and I haven't received my song yet. I've tried to contact then at all the contacts they've provided and I've gotten no response from them yet. It states on their website that it takes 2 to 7 business days for them to master a song and it has pass that time. This is unprofessional and annoying. I operate a recording studio and have sent many clients to them and worked with them directly as well. They stand behind their commitment to the client's satisfaction. I submitted a 1 song, "Rush order" mastering job. They were not exactly prompt with their 24 hour rush commitment. They delivery of the file was a little over 6 hours late with no notice given regarding lateness. I had a minor revision needed on the job as I asked for extremely minimal processing and the file provided was a bit over-treated with respect to the vocals. Nothing terrible mind you. I provided my feedback within a few hours of receiving the file and asked for adjustment. Unfortunately I had to follow-up with them for 3 consecutive days to request an update as I had not received the file. I also left a voicemail that was not returned. By the 4th day back with zero response I requested my money back and of course haven't heard back. It's quite simple and other mastering services practice this - do not accept mastering jobs if you are unable to complete them. Judging by prior reviews this behavior is not new and the company has not addressed this poor communication habit. Absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. read more
