This place isn't to be confused with the similarity named bar within the Canal Court hotel about a 5 minute walk away. This dining place is part of the Francis Court hotel, funnily enough on Francis street occupying a site that 55 years ago was a railway line for the train to Warrenpoint. This and many other great rail lines were sadly killed off for political reasons in the 1960's.
I didn't know food was being served here until I drove by and saw their advert on a giant billboard adjacent to the hotel. So upon seeing the billboard and being there (2 movie style references already: 3 billboards outside Ebbing Missouri & Being There).
I keep digressing anyway in we went to try it. We both ordered the chilli beef strips on homemade bread with lime mayonnaise and fries. We got the triple cooked fries.
The food was excellent with almost every element great but splitting hairs I couldn't detect any lime in the mayo. The beef was crispy and delicious - the homemade bread was homemade and divine; often this is claimed on menus but falsely so.
The triple cooked chips too were great and at under £6 the food was fairly priced. The only thing that annoyed me was the lack of Colman's English mustard. The worlds greatest mustard. I was offered American mustard. No thanks.
Service could be better. We told the waitress we needed a few minutes but we eventually had to go in search of wait staff when no one returned to attend to us.
So it would have been three stars but the fair price nudges it to four star. read more
