David Ray and his staff and coaches seem to have an almost fanatical focus on their customers (me and the other drivers who come to the track days) and making sure we have a great experience. They have in-car coaches any time I want one (unlike the other outfits). They have fewer cars on the track in each of the run groups (unlike the other outfits). I LOVE the emphasis they put on having fun and being safe - they repeat it all the time and they seem to really mean it. Every time I come home from a HOD track day I'm happy and exhilarated. A couple of other things - it's fun and very interesting and informative to socialize with the staff and the other customers about cars and driving. You learn A LOT every time you go out with HOD. Helpful resources always seem to be available if you need them - whenever I want to talk to a coach or David about my car or the track or driving or whatever, they spend the time it takes to get you what you want to know. I think therefore, that HOD provides the most fun and the best learning opportunity available. If you are focused on improving your high-performance driving skills and abilities - in my opinion, this is the best outfit to help you do it. And if you just want to drive and not take advantage of any of these other things, you can do that too. I love being able to go out with these guys and gals in a safe environment and drive as fast as I want to and not get a speeding ticket!

It is getting to the point where I have very little confidence that I will actually get seat time when I sign up with H.O.D. I'm not sure if it is just the Texas region or if this happens everywhere but it has caused me some frustration, especially when I organize the trip with a few other people and I have to cancel on them a few times in a row.

We chose Funworks because they let you ride solo even if you're under 58 inches tall, just at a slower speed. That one feature in of itself separates this spot from the others, they trust the kids to drive the karts, and the kids have a blast doing so, they just limit how fast they can go in them, it's brilliant business model to be honest. This spot is a few miles from the freeway, super easy to get to. Beyond the go kart racing, they have tons of other options. There's miniature golf, bumper cars, batting cages, arcade games, and a small snack bar/food court. There's also plenty of separate spaces in that area for kids birthday parties too. The golf course was kept up pretty well we noticed. We'll for sure come back, and do the activities they offer again. They have different packages you can buy. His teaching progression was methodical and perfectly paced: we started with racing lines at slower speeds, then layered in braking technique, corner entry discipline, slide awareness and recovery, trail braking, and manual shifting. Each session built on the last, and he never introduced complexity before the foundation was solid. Over the course of my sessions, my best lap time at Sonoma went from over 3 minutes to 1:47.5 in a simulated 488 GTB with manual shifting. More importantly, I went from not understanding how to read a track to consistently flowing curb to curb, managing traction through elevation changes, and feeling confident at the car's limits. Jason also brought in tools like ghost cars and telemetry overlays to help me find time I didn't know I was leaving on the table. The at-home setup was convenient and the sim hardware is excellent. Deanna was responsive and easy to work with on scheduling. If you're preparing for a track day, driving school, or just want to build real driving skill in a low-risk environment, I'd highly recommend SSi and Jason specifically. Worth every dollar.
