Needed a smog check for my 2016 Honda. I was in and out with in 20 minutes! The service was quick and the lobby was nice and clean. read more

I desperately needed a smog check for late DMV Renewal, another story. I phoned this garage the week before looking for a Shop. The person who answered was very helpful and politely answered my questions. I had to check something with DMV, and would get back to them. On Saturday morning I had an early errand and decided to swing by Atwater Smog Center to see if/when I could get a smog check. Jose was there and said I could get that done right now, right away. Yes, siree, that is what happened and I was on my way, passed smog check, within 20 minutes. I highly recommend this place and appreciate Jose's professionalism and manners (& the cost was comparable to local garages.) If you value great customer service and an establishment that takes pride in their work, Atwater Smog Center is your place! read more

They don't take cars in 25-30 min before they are supposed to close at 5pm. I've come in two separate times around 4:30 and the guys in the garage tell the receptionist they aren't taking on new cars. If they don't take new cars after 4:30 they should change their hours. This is ridiculous considering I got off of work early to make their 5pm cutoff. They didn't have other cars in the garage either. Only one car which they finished at 4:45pm then closed their garage doors. This is a clean place which I appreciate but not taking cars 25-30 minutes before closing is unacceptable and unprofessional. read more

This has to be the best place on earth. I came in on my way to get some nachos just for a quote. They told me the service would only be about 15 minutes since I work remote i told them id be right back. Grabbed my nachos came back and they only had one mechanic available with a new 25 minute wait time. As I was about to leave the beautiful woman named Nelly who originally qouted me the 15 minute quote offered to do it while she was still eating i felt like crap as i begged her not to but she insisted. She got up and grabbed my keys and was done 2 to 3 minutes before her prediction. Amazing. I wish I could tip her or order her a new lunch. We will see what the future holds. I owe her big time. Thanks a bunch Merced Smog I'll be back again but only if she's there!! read more

Just had a quick, 10 minute, $60 smog check here. Everyone was professional and kind. No fuss, no problems. This was a dramatic improvement over a previous visit. read more

I've used them for smog services a few times. They are pretty fast, even without an appointment. Waiting room was clean and receptionists were friendly. Food is conveniently located next door if you want to eat while you wait. Price is competitive with other local service stations. They also provide registration services. Very convenient. read more

Keep going past this business. The absolute worst smog center on the planet. They trick you right up front and have no business ethics whatsoever. I disputed the transaction and prevailed due to the unexpected trickery. SERVICES not provided. I had a long talk with them on scene and their position is that they should not ever disclose to the customer upfront that the car will not be checked for codes prior to testing. They further stand on the principle that they should never tell the customer up front that since they aren't pre-checking and that if smog fails you'll be charged anyhow. What kinda BS is this? They have the option of telling you up front if it fails you pay anyway but REFUSE to do so?? Whatttt??? Most people would still pay but some will be pissed off by not being disclosed properly and fairly. They are sharks I'll be filing complaints with the BAR and CA consumer protection as well read more

I walked in at 9am on Tuesday morning and got such great service at the front office. I didn't get her name but she was really nice, polite, and helpful. She let me know that they had a bit of a wait. I came back at 9:30am and my smog was done and she let me know that proof was sent electronically to DMV. I loved how easy, quick, and nice they were. I'll be coming back regularly for my annual smog. Thanks so much read more

Merced Smog Center - Smog Check Stations Near Me - Merced, California

great service in and out in about ten minutes and they sent the paperwork to sacramento for me

Quick & helpful. A little strange with initial greeting but everything turned out great.

This shop will fail you if your car looks like it's been modified even though if you have a stock exhaust or stock intake anything that is carb legal they will fail you by just looking at your car. They just want your money. read more

never go to this place even if your car has carb legal intake or legal exhaust. they will fail your car for any slight modification!

everyone is very friendly & price is perfect $60 for a smog check wish they did oil changes:(

These guys will fail your vehicle by vision inspection when they think they can cheat on you. They only use outdated paper, nor of computers to keep records and research when needed. They always argue with customers (especially Jose) and very poor communication. Never go there if you own a Japanese vehicle. These guys are most likely scamming people. read more

We've been to this place a few times before and they were great. It was convenient and quick. We went on July 31,2023 to get our pick up truck smogged and it did mot pass according to them. We were told that it did not pass and to replace an EVAP hose that was "collapsed" during the visual inspection. Although I know that visual inspections are required for disconnected hoses and loose wires etc but are also SUBJECTIVE. The EVAP hose was not collapsed, it was bent like most hoses are. The hose was not cracked, disconnected, nor was it letting anything out. I decided to read the report where I noticed that EVERYTHING had passed. It was just during the visual inspection that the technician decided the hose needed to be replaced!!! I had noticed that the 3 people's vehicles before us were "not passing" either. One man was told to go drive his car for 30 min and then bring it back and it would pass?!?! I found that odd. I don't know if California gives them directives to not pass vehicles, but the reasons given to those people just did mot make sense. When I questioned the staff about if, one of the women got defensive and tries to talk over me and he sounded somewhat angry which I didn't appreciate, so I spoke over her as the conversation was not with her to begin with. I was expressing my concerns about the whole thing and she didn't need to get defensive. Everyone else was polite about it and they service has been great, but I just felt that if the hose wasn't cracked to collapsed, it would have been a great idea customer service wise to advise us to replace that hose for the future just in case it did crack or disconnect. We will no longer go there though. Found another place our mechanic recommended. read more

I got my smog done. How can I think this was cool? If it passes I'm fine. If not... I shoot a bunch of kittens and feed them to kids during Sunday school. It passed. Kids got lucky this time! Cost was 58 dollars... is that a lot? I don't know, every 2 or 3 yrs... who cares. read more

The idiot (some chubby dude) who did my smog parks my truck in front of the waiting room door, gets out, and lets my registration FLY OUT into the street. Instead of keeping an eye on it to determine where it landed, he turns around and goes back to work. I go to retrieve my paperwork and in he comes in and says my registration flew down the street. I said, "Get it!" He said he didn't want to die for a piece of paper. I told him, "I want you to get my piece of paper, and not die!" He stated he will, after he took care of all his other customers. What a FRICKEN LOSER! Never again will I take my care here. If that's his version of customer service, then it starts at the top and reflects on the owner. The owner is now responsible for this LOSER's poor etiquette. read more

I had to get a smog check to renew my registration. In a grand total of about 15 minutes, they had done the smog test and renewed the registration. Yes... you can renew your registration and get your new sticker at the shop. They charge a small fee for the registration service, but it is totally worth it not to wait in line at the DMV. read more

I didn't need to make an appointment which is great. Came in and 15-20 minutes later I'm walking out happy and done with my car smog. $20 off coupon for showing them I found them on yelp.
