(Elaine/Seinfeld)…read more Conveniently located about a block from my hotel, Pingo Dingo (called Pingo Doce by some) became a frequent stop for me to pick up water bottles and other staples during my time in Lisbon. One of my favorite things to do when traveling abroad is to wander the aisles of grocery stores on the prowl for good deals, amusing products, and wild Australian dogs. The aisles of Pingo did not disappoint! Star Wars obsessed? Check out the Jabba the Hutt fish in the seafood section! Fan of the Two-Buck Chuck? Pingo has a full wall of wines under $5. Kermit is your spirit animal? Muppet eye special in aisle 3! Take note that items from the deli and pastry section must be paid for at that counter. There is also a check-out line reserved only for pharmacy items. Pingo also houses the entry to the "secret" Castelo Elevador, which will lift you most the way up to St. George Castle. Overall this chain grocery store is a fantastic pit stop to load up on refreshments, basic needs, and cheap pastries. Next time some obnoxious woman complains, "I've lost my fiancé, the poor baby," put on your worst Australian accent and let her know he's at the Pingo Dingo!

We split a few appetizers with the whole table and each got our own entree. Here's what I tried: - Tuna Tartare (18€): Good! - Green Bean Tempura (7€): Perfectly fried. Really hit the spot. - Grilled Sea Bass with Shrimp Rice (37.5€): Very delicious. - Bitoque (29.5€): We weren't impressed with this one. The fries were good. But if we went here again, we'd stick to the seafood. Very tasty! Would definitely try the chef's other restaurants if we have the chance!

And the waitress was so kind - she essentially gave us a private tour and the history on the place, including the speakeasy in the back that's inside an ancient church. Would definitely return.

So curiously we followed the crowd and they all had congregated in the bakery and deli area. The prices are VERY affordable as compared to the tourist trap stores. A lot of the locals shop here and this market is always busy! So if you want a cup of coffee with a Custard tart, or coffee with a nice buttered bun, combined, it cost us 2.09 euros! There is a small sitting area to eat your stuff, but the unsaid expectation was to "eat and run" since a steady stream of people were also taking this opportunity for a great deal! Manteigaria Silva felt like stepping into a living slice of Lisbon's culinary history. Founded in…read more1890, this gourmet shop still operates under its original name, its interior lined with gleaming wheels of cheese, hams hanging from the ceiling, and a classic Berkel slicer on display. The knowledgeable staff guides you through legendary cured meats. The quality of these vintage acorn-fed hams does not compare to anything else; smooth, richly marbled, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It is some of the finest hamon you can find. It is expensive though. For this plate we spent $100 euro. Finding a seat is virtually impossible when busy; seating is sparse, and on busy days you might wait 20 minutes just to snag a standing table. Be patient, that wait is absolutely worth it.

Continente at Colombo is the largest shopping centre that I came across during my trip to Lisbon…read more The supermarket is one of the largest shops located within the mall The store was clean and the layout was easy to follow, even for me, a non-native to Portugal who had never visited a Continente before, it just felt somewhat familiar and made sense. The selection within the store was very good, for produce and fresh counters for meat, fish, cheese and baked goods. I was able to find the products I was looking for in stock or at least a similar alternative. Prices were reasonable in most areas, although many items, especially branded ones, seemed more expensive compared to back home in the UK, even coffee, which is funny as I noticed Nespresso was slightly cheaper here, but the capsules in the supermarket cost more. While the store overall was relatively comfortable and attractive, the checkout area felt like we were going back 10-15 years, it felt crowded and outdated. A very good supermarket overall, it follows the regular shopping centre opening hours of 8 am-midnight which again is very good for those who prefer to get groceries in the evening when it is quieter. 4*
