A trip down to Rosarito isn't complete unless you stop into Mercado Del Mar. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but looks can be deceiving. It's a small specialty market with fresh fruit and desserts, various grocery items, and a deli for fresh sandwiches/food. The other side of the store is a large liquor store with a tasting area. They have hundreds of tequilas as well as hard to find specialty liquors, wines, and also less expensive varieties also. If you are looking for higher end tequilas, like 1942, you'll pay more than in the states but if you need help selecting comparable tequilas without additives, Nacho is the guy who will help you. He's the best! Every time I visit, he is always friendly and helpful. They have authentic and ceramic tequila bottles, which are so beautiful! Decent little general store (like a bodega) but this has another room filled with a ton of liquor- mostly tequilas. What's popular to the ones that have relocated living here now is the fact this is one of the few mercados that carries a lot more of the items you'd find in the states, Costco & also has a few Asian brands (other than Maruchan & Nissin). The produce, though small selection is fresh & abundance of the veggies/fruit they do carry. They also carry necessities such as household items you will be searching for if you didn't bring them with you when you moved. Prices are from little pricey to competitive just depends how in demand it is & how bad you need. All in all it's one of the good stores in an area that has very few & no big markets unless you drive back to el centro (Smart Finals little bit closer but big box mkt vs local) or Puerto Nuevo which is a far drive to both. read more

I found this little gem right across the street from where I was staying on the third day of my weeklong vacation (after I had already been to both Smart & Final and Walmart the day before, unfortunately.) This little market has most of what you will want or need for a short stay, but it also has a bunch of really unique items, too (which I love in a small, independent market in any part of the world.) Plus, they have an insane collection of tequilas (and other spirits!) The older gentleman that I spoke with was insanely knowledgeable about tequilas and he pointed me in the direction of several different options (at several different price points.) I wound-up getting 6 different bottles and I am excited to find out what is inside each one of them! read more

Just be warned, if you looking for tequila in Rosarito this is the place. The market has the basics and beer, but step up through the door on the north side of the market and I challenge you to find a bigger selection of tequila in northern Baja. The selection can't be beat, the price are competitive and they always have free tequila tastings. There is always someone there to guide you on your taste and will recommend other tequilas you might have overlooked. The service is great, and did I mention this place is wall to wall tequila? When you go I highly recommend you know what your looking for and or have plenty of time to look around. They do have a Mezcal section along with local wines and other liquor if tequila isn't your thing. Great service! An array of great tequilas and mezcal. Walk in turn left and look at all the the different high quality spirits. The staff was very knowledgeable and we would see locals come in and buy quality alcohol. Owner gave us samples and I got kinda tipsy lol. I'm definitely coming back. Great place. We stopped by here to buy some tequila. Upon entering you'd think this was just a grocery store, but if you head toward the back, you'll see that there is a huge selection of different alcohol for purchase. The owner is very helpful and can help you find what you're looking for. Many of the bottles here aren't found in the U.S. so you'll definitely find some unique treasures to share with friends and family back home, but be careful on how much you bring back! ;) read more
