Pay de elote
Cathy D.

Excellent sommelier suggestion for a single glass of wine. Spinach salad good, main course steak medium rare in a pastry case (like beef Wellington) with squash sauce decent but uninspired. Tried the pay di elote as I wanted to taste this sweet corn pudding with eggnog sauce. The Mexican sweet tooth and mine just don't match so I left half, and had a shot of espresso to finish. Wait staff very professional and tolerant of my non-Spanish. Quite expensive, as you pay a cover for the spiral bread and spreads, something I didn't need. Glass of wine excellent but $$$. So many other choices in the Centro Historico I will go elsewhere.

A for ambience and service. Enjoyed the bread, appetizer and soup. The main courses were a fail. Grilled tuna was supposedly medium but came well done. The chicken with mole was overcooked and dry. Crème brûlée was not custardy and texture was not sufficiently firm. Will give them another try. Maybe other dishes will be done right.

4 pepper chili steak with sausage and seranno peppers

Almost got scammed by the people on the street trying to get me to go upstairs to their restaurant when I found this place... The food was delicious!!! We had escarole which is ant larvae, guacamole, 4 pepper steak, fajitas, stuffed Chile relleno and tenderloin. Prompt and courteous service.

If your looking for a pleasant environment to dine in Mercaderes could be your choice of dining. With it's array of plates one can be sure to leave satisfied. I ordered the arrachera con papas francesca's (steak with fries), which I can say with confidence was quite satisfying in all areas. However, my friends who ordered crepas mercaderas (3 separate crepes filled with chicken, spinach, and mushrooms) weren't quite as satisfied. All in all, if your in town Mercaderas should be one of your visits.

The food was all very good and the service was spectacular! The prices were also very reasonable for the quality of the dishes.

Great ambiance, they have private rooms for large groups. Food is good and they have a great selection of Mexican wines!

The music outside is great and you can just enjoy that without purchasing anything!! I heard when a waiter told a couple, go inside and wait "I have a table!" They insisted that everyone remained completely silent although we did not see a single person actually doing the work of making wine. They said aggressively over and over silencio, as if we were in the Vatican. Mind you, there wasn't a single person behaving disrespectfully in the large group. The groups are very large, 40 people. They barked their presentation at us as if we were insubordinate young children and they were nuns. The sparking swill we were presented at the end was fuzzy sugar water with a bitter finish. Absolutely undrinkable for a champagne fanatic. I've toured dozens of wineries all over the world, this was unquestionably the worst experience given the rudeness, draconian policies, and terrible product. If you have any understanding of wine, don't waste your time. I suggest visiting the Valley Guadalupe. They produce exceptional product there including brut style sparkling that would surprise and delight any fan of Champagne. The wineries in that region are stunning and the people are gracious and welcoming.
