Established in 1921, Merb's Candies is a staple! It has served the Saint Louis community for three generations as a family-owned and operated business. Check out the iconic Merb's sign lighting up South Grand. As you step inside the store, a whiff of rich, decadent aroma almost puts you in a trance. Smells of irresistible melted chocolate, mingling with caramel, vanilla, fruit and nuts... one of everything please. All the chocolates are created meticulously by hand in two locations. They are made with love and the quality is top notch. There are so many delights including assorted chocolates, hard candies, bionic apples, chocolate-covered strawberries, and turtles. There's something for everyone!

Merbs Candy Shop on Grand has caught my eye the last few months driving by! I stopped in to see what all they have to offer, & let me tell you that you'll want everything they have & more. I bought chocolate covered blueberries & these are TOP TIER, people! I also bought my husband dark chocolate covered peanuts I'm sure he will enjoy. The woman at the counter was super helpful with recommending what they have & fan faves. Small inside but that doesn't stop them from having plenty to choose from. Very clean! I love the chocolate they have showcasing for you. It's like walking into a jewelry store with the glass cases but with chocolate

Smart Post comment first try at complaint with FedEx.

First time ever putting a negative review on yelp. I actually only about a hand full of times gone off on a vendor. Hard to call because they leave the fax on. I sent something from merbs to my friend in Asheville, NC because she had lost someone and because of Helene issues. She didn't receive the product. Tried to get resolution from FedEx online and got a picture saying that this was a SmartPost shipment. The person sending needed to contact FedEx. Merbs said since FedEx had a picture of the box at the house, they were no longer involved and that I was now responsible with dealing with FedEx. My friend sent me pictures of how the package had been opened and no candy was inside. Someone tucked it back up on the sides where they had cut it and slipped it out. Who steals candy? I tried to send emails but they were bounced back after two days. The lady at Merbs wouldn't give me a manager, said they never have issues with shipping and just hung up on me because she had to get back to work. The shipping was $19.95 for a pound of chocolate. A pound of chocolate was $35 dollars, I paid the $ because I thought I was working with a quality company. So sad Merbs. I gave two stars because I didn't have issues with the s. County store, all shipments are done from the Grand store. Merbs says call FedEx and FedEx says call Merbs. At my old house, I saw people take a picture and then start to leave with the box, there I just opened the door and followed them down the sidewalk to retrieve the box. BS. Update: filed a complaint from FedEx and they said Merbs had to make the complaint. They filed my complaint, but that had no actionable consequence because I did not ship, Merbs did. Called Merb again. This time I was more cooler, less volume, but my voice was high pitch because I hate confrontation. The lady I spoke to said she was the owner. Owner said I was being rude and will not contact FedEx. She said she could tell from the drivers pic, (pic included), that there was candy in that box. The box was open on the other side. Even though I said it was on FedEx and stuck to the facts, the owner is blocking any resolution from FedEx. The owner implied my friend or I was lying. My friend or I do need to scam a box of candy from Merbs.

The chocolate covered strawberries were perfection! Walked in a few days before Valentine's day and received great service. They are only allowing 4 customers inside the store at a time, so there was a small line outside the front door (as to be expected before Valentine's Day). Other days when I have driven past, there is no line. There was a uniformed officer inside the store on the day of my visit. I don't necessarily thing he was needed, but he did add an extra sense of security on s busy day. There is only street parking available on Grand and the side street, no parking lot. Keep in mind there is a bus stop at this corner and to avoid parking in the bus stop. Check their website for current offerings. You may want to call ahead if you want to make sure they have what you are looking for. I was interested in their caramel sauce, but when I arrived, they only had their caramel sauce with nuts on top. Obviously, still delicious. The caramel wasn't actually a sauce, but more like taffy. I needed to cut it with scissors or pull really heard to get it our of the container. No spoons! The cashier was wearing a face shield and she was behind plexi at the register. I felt safe with their social distancing and masking protocols.

For the uninitiated, Merb's snappers look like the candy often called "turtles" by other confectioners.

They made a fresh pot of coffee and even went the extra mile to go get ice as we came in later in the evening and they had run out. I did tell them they didn't need to, but he insisted which I thought was outstanding. This quaint little café is so charming inside. It allows people to gather eat a sweet treat and have general conversation conversations where you can actually hear one another. They do have outside seating too. The chocolate cake was soft and as a non-cake lover I found this very delicious. Definitely worthy of sharing. I ordered a quiche to go. I had mentioned they didn't have the spinach feta pastry that I had before. The gentleman stated we have some in the back, I'm happy to get you one. So I ordered that too. And although this was only our second time coming, the fact that they'll make a fresh pot of coffee in my opinion is key to a great café. I will keep this in my rotation of places to go.

As I was walking to the door, I see a man cleaning the tables. He walks toward the door as I'm walking up to it. We're literally standing face to face with the door in between us. I smile, he is stone faced. I go to open the door as he walks away. The door is locked. I try a few more times, thinking maybe it's me. I look around at the hours again, but next to it is a "we're open" sign. I try maybe 3-4 times more before I give up. I walk to the window and he's sitting at a table toward the back, looking at me. We just look at each other, then he looks at his computer. I turn toward my car, then turn back around and he's still looking at me! I sat in my car, confused. He never looked back up from his computer, so I left. Highly disappointed.

It's that good. I discovered BPP when I was in Maplewood shopping at Penzey's, my favorite spice store. As I parked on Manchester, I saw the colorful facade and the big letters POPCORN and knew I needed to visit after getting my spice fix. BPP is a tiny, cute popcorn boutique. It is simply and colorfully decorated. Janee' the proprietor is an amazing lady. She is not only the mastermind of BPP, she also provides excellent customer service. Her warm personality, makes shopping and selecting a flavor or two of popcorns a pleasant experience. I love popcorn. To be honest, I can make a big bowl of popcorn an evening meal. Being my first visit, I created my own mix. I enjoy Butter and Caramel. I started munching on it while driving back to IL and finally had to seal the bag up at a stop sign so I didn't devour it all before I got home. The butter popcorn was better then movie theatre popcorn and the caramel was rich and sweet. I'll be back, for sure. Every time I shop Penzey's, I'll shop Blissfully Popped Popcorn. My financial advisor is in Maplewood, so when I visit their office, I'll be a BPP, too. Oh, hell, anytime I am in Maplewood, I'll stop by BPP. Shop Local, Woman Owned and Black Owned.
