This is a favorite shop to go for vintage clothing, accessories, costumes, hats, gloves, 20's, 30's, 50's, 60's styles, masks etc. Every Halloween this is a must visit shop for me. Ugly Christmas sweaters galore!!! This vintage store is located on 4th street, a perfect place to go if you are looking for the perfect vintage outfit or furniture. Meow has incredibly friendly sales staff, and definitely specialize in the kitschy, fun vintage fare (thus Christmas sweaters!). There are plenty of women's and men's stuff. My husband found a fun lame blazer that was in excellent condition and fit great. All their clothes seemed in good condition and clean. This store definitely lacks the typical "vintage stench," which was a welcome surprise. Will definitely be back if we are in the market for anything else "fun." read more

I always stop here while visiting family in the beach. There's not a whole lot to look at but the amount of dead stock vintage in here is pretty awesome. The prices are so-so but looking good ain't always cheap. The employees here obviously have to deal with lots of bull so they aren't always the happiest of people but I like them still. This place ROCKS! It's the only place in Long Beach that sells nice, CLEAN, vintage clothing! Most of their stuff is something called "Dead stock(?)" I think that means it's really old, but has never been worn before, so it's like brand spanking new! It's also fun to go there just to see some of the "other" people who shop there. Seems like every time I'm shopping, there's an overweight girl trying on something that can't possibly fit, then complaining about the sizes or the price! I mean, don't they know it's not K mart? Reminded me of a better version of Flashbacks in Orange, the way it is all jumbled together on overstuffed racks and spans many decades and degrees of quality. Didn't find any clothes for my body or budget (coat selection was seriously lacking), but the employees were friendly and helpful, and the eyeglasses and sunglasses selection was the BEST I've seen. They must have gotten a great mega shipment of them, because they said they weren't sure the great selection would last long. I splurged (well, for a cheapie like me) and got 2 pairs of deadstock sunglasses. Pricey compared to my fave vintage shops but still not snobby and worth digging through for a find. read more

Meow is one of my favorite vintage stores on fourth street. Lets start by the amazing collection of Bakelite that they have!! And it is not fake-lite that many other shops carry. I know, I have tested them. The Jewelry and hat collection is bomb, The clothing is dope as well. The bad thing is that some stuff is overpriced. And I am a consumer who knows better..... Like, for the price that they are asking for can be bought at the Rose Bowl for much less. I don't think I will ever break down and pay the prices here. Honestly I have never been to a thrift/vintage store that wants $50 for a used cardigan with holes in it. This place has the "emperor's new clothes" vibe and people seem willing to spend mucho bucks for something they could get at one of the other shops on fourth for half the price, because they claim the items were never worn. My Meow experience: In 2001 I was in California visiting a friend. I didn't live here yet. She lived in Downey and took me all over LA and Orange County to go shopping. By the time she took me to Long Beach, my head was spinning and I honestly had no idea even what city we were in or where we were when she took me to Meow. I bought a few pieces here, but what stood out was the pair of amazing, knee high, open toe, lace up the front like a corset satin boots. Brand new deadstock from the 70's. I think Stevie Nicks has the other pair. When I saw them on the shelf, the employee told me not to even try them on, because they were too small and didn't fit anyone. They fit me perfectly. I had to have them. Every time I wore them over the next year and a half (which was a lot. I was full on in the middle of some serious GOTH and thought that lace up satin knee high corset boots were appropriate grocery store attire), I got 4738564 compliments and loved telling the story of the cool little boutique in CA I picked them up in. Never thought I would see the place again. Cut to late 2002. I moved to Long Beach. I was exploring my new neighborhood and was SHOCKED! FLOORED! to find that I had moved into an apartment less than one mile from Meow. Like I said, I didn't even know I was in Long Beach when I was originally shopping there. I like to think it was fate. I still have the shoes, which are looking a little worse for the wear and are currently retired. I guess I need to study up on some reviews for a good shoe restoration shop. As others have mentioned, some of the prices in Meow are high, but they have amazing things if you dig! They do have a lot of cluttery stuff too, but not as bad as lots of other vintage stores can be. Love. read more

Another store that generally manages to separate me from at least some of my hard earned cash. Those that say it's pricey all seem to expect thrift store prices - doesn't work that way. If you have WAY more time than money, go source the stuff yourself. But I doubt you'll find anything as cool - and that fits. And I don't know what thrift stores YOU go to, but I rarely find ANYTHING vintage - much less that fits and is actually something I want. The few pieces of vintage I find at thrifts these days is crappy, stained 70's poly that NO ONE wants. Long gone are the days of finding choice vintage at your local Goodwill. It's just like anything - I'm sure you can find groceries for cheaper, too - if you have the time to go directly to the source. Me? I don't mind paying a bit more for the right piece and to save a little legwork. Plus, everything here is clean, dated, and nicely displayed :) read more

Retro Row -- AKA 4th street, from Cherry to Junipero in Long Beach -- is THE place to be! So obviously I've been to Meow a couple of times. The thing that makes Meow stand out from the other vintage shops is that it holds clothes and accessories from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, and 80s.. and maybe the 40s and 90s, but who knows? I haven't come close to exploring everything yet! The price tags are even labeled with the decade that the article of clothing was made. However, from what I saw, shoes and accessories are not labeled with the time period. I know that the costumes from Mad Men are usually purchased from stores on Retro Row, and wouldn't be surprised if most of them were from Meow. The only real downside to this store is $$$ of course... Everything is a bit out of the average college student's price range, but that is to be expected of vintage clothing in such good condition. At least I bought a pair of "Fay Bans" (fake Ray-Bans) for $15 to temporarily fill my need for some sturdy sunglasses. I'll come back for some cute 50s dresses when I have a more stable form of income. read more

I made a purchase today (2/6/2013).. Went here Said a nice hello to the cashier some white guy that looked like he has cancer on his nose He didnt even smile and say Hello. I was with my best friend we were looking for some cool vintage. I found two pants and one blouse went to try everything on and asked her opinion.Everything looked great except for some long big bell bottoms that were way to big for me. They were 38 dlls and I was wondering if I could get a discount since I would have to have them remade-tailored into a size 3. Cashier guy said "No we dont do that here" I said "you guys dont'?(I have been to alot of vintage thrifty shops and if your spending more than 50 dlls they will give you a buck or two off) I then went back to look at the pants rack to find some smaller bells..He STARED AT ME LIKE I WAS THE DEVIL! He then said "I can hold those items at the counter" I told him no thanks I need the pants to compare to other bells I may find". He then gave me a dirty look again and that's When I said "WE ARE NOT STEALING! SO CHILL DUDE! I had on a 65 dlls rag and bone blouse and 200 dlls boots on with a 150.00 purse. I looked very polished so I don't know what was his DAMN PROBLEM! But never again..I did purchased the big bells cause I couldnt stand him eyeballing me. I also purchase the blouse. Payed over 53.00 dlls. When I gave him my 3 20 dlls bills he snatched the money from me. I wanted to slapp the shit otta him. This guy was a JERK! there customer service sucks..If I ever go back into this place he bet not tell me a GODDAM thing or else I will go all ANGELA Davis on his ass with my BIG AFRO! read more

This store is just okay. The biggest problem? SO overpriced. I once bought a sweater here. It was cream colored, oversized, kind of itchy. I don't know what I was thinking at the time, but I paid about $50 for it. Definitely not worth it. I sold it at a garage sale recently for $2. Every time I pick something up in the store, the price is always about $20 more than I expected. They do have a good selection of vintage items, but the racks to the right of the store are a little too crammed so I get overwhelmed and leave. If they would bring their prices down a bit, it would have a higher rating. The other nearby stores like La Bomba and The Vintage Collective are much better. read more

Beatuiful shop with a fantastic curated collection of goods. Loved the decor and repurposed neon signs inside. The dressing room doors are made of 1950's refrigerator doors! So creative. A tad on the pricey side but worth a visit if you are in the area. read more

I have never not wanted everything in this store. I always find something beautiful here. The dresses I buy at meow last a lot longer than most vintage stores beacuse they are often dead stock, which means they are new. They are a little pricey, but worth it for the quality. They also have bathing suits, purses, shoes, and my favorite of all never before worn vintage pajamas. I dream of shopping at Meow. read more

WOW!!! I have to give an actual star to this place because yelp makes you. Still 20 minutes to closing and I kindly asked to see something in a case. I received a sigh, some hesitation and a reply of "huh...okay" from the guy behind the counter. I asked if that was okay and if they were closed. His reply was "well if you take any longer than no!". WOW! He came back and mentioned how he didn't want to come across as being rude. Okay, I give it a chance sinceI had wanted to buy a friend a unique gift. I made my choice and looked for the helpful guy who was so eager to make another sale for the day. He was crouched behind the counter organizing something. He popped up after I said I was ready. Being in customer service for many years I decided to give a piece of advice about how you should speak to people and the tone you should be using. The kind reply in return was "Well...we're not know for our customer service here!" So after wasting my time and apparently his, I walked out. As I left I murmured out my frustration and came across a guy walking his dog. Briefly I told him what happened and he said he would for sure never go there. So immediately my negative experience here has kept one person from stepping foot in this place. Never in my life have I been treated by such a disrespectful person who works in a business that's reliant on people coming into their store in order to make a living.
