Ladies, trust me and make this your first stop when searching for a formal dress or gown. I spent…read morean entire day searching every formal wear store in Mobile for the perfect gown for a Mardi Gras ball, with Putting on the Ritz being my final stop. I wish I would have stopped here first! Putting on the Ritz has been helping girls for 30 years find the perfect Mardi Gras dress, prom dress, or pageant dress. The store has a large variety of dresses and their sizes range from 0-32. Putting on the Ritz also offers a 30 day lay-away with an $100 deposit. From the moment I walked into the door, I was greeted and my hunt started. I gave the lady a general idea of what I was looking for, and she pulled a few dresses that were spot on. The staff here really knows what they are doing, and the customer service is amazing! In less than an hour, I found the dress I was looking for. Another great thing about Putting on the Ritz is that they only carry a limited amount of each dress. Maybe 1 or 2 of each size for a particular dress. I loved not having to worry about another girl at this particular ball having the same dress as me, and even at other balls throughout the Mardi Gras season, I never saw another girl with this particular dress on. Considering most of the larger balls have approximately 1,500 other girls attending, this was a big deal. I will definitely be returning to Putting on the Ritz as my first stop when I get ready to dress shop for the 2018 Mardi Gras season!

My sister left this establishment crying!…read more My sister contacted the store prior to her visit and was informed that there was a wide selection of white dresses available for a Phi Mu formal. However, upon arrival, she found that there was only one white dress in her size. (When she was told differently.) During her visit, the owner contacted the employee my sister had spoken with and made comments implying that additional options were available, but were a size zero. My sister wears a size 6, and the way this situation was handled was inappropriate and disrespectful. She could hear the other employee through the phone. Customer service should always be conducted with professionalism, especially when interacting with young women. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect those standards and left a very negative impression. *Young ladies and mothers please be aware that this establishment shames women for not being a size zero*

Honestly, this place doesn't even deserve 1 star, but here's our experience…read more WOW, that is my initial response to our experience @ Elegant Evenings in Laurel, MS. My daughter & I drove 2 hours & 45 minutes from Louisiana to shop for her homecoming dress for her senior year. Upon arriving we were met by a sweet young girl, which I wish i had gotten her name. We told her we were looking for something different & she was up for the challenge. She pulled several dresses & we were excited. That was, until the owner's mom came into the picture. She began by pulling dresses out of the dressing room that she felt were "too small" for my daughter.  We were also informed that no pictures were allowed because "the lighting wasn't good" & no one was allowed in the dressing room with her because they're" too small", neither of which was true, but I digress. After the initial encounter with the owners mother, my daughter was determined to leave & was in the dressing room bawling her eyes out from the way she was talked down to by said owner's mother. I mentioned what had happened to our sweet girl helping  & went in to try & calm my daughter down & build her back up to stay & see how it played out. That's when the owner stepped in & again informed me that only 1 person was allowed in the dressing room. She then became our person helping us instead of the initial young lady. I'm sure to help make sure we followed all of the many rules. I did convince my daughter to stay & continue trying on, but there was no way my daughter was going to buy a dress from a business who in her opinion "body shamed" her. Additionally, I've been across the South shopping for homecoming dresses, homecoming suits, prom & pageant dresses & NEVER have I or my girls ever been treated with such disrespect!!!  I absolutely do not recommend visiting this dress shop!!! While their selection appeared to be pretty good, the way we were treated, whether it was just because we were from out of town or because my daughter wasn't the right size clientele, I'm not certain, but it was definitely one of the worst shopping experiences of my life!!!

As a family owned business they remember their customers and strive to make the shopping experience comfortable, low pressure, and so that you really feel good about the way you look. Metzler's is located off of Dauphin Street, on the service road in front of the shopping center that holds Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Dumbwaiter and Jos A Bank. The store seems to share a parking lot with a bank, however there is always ample parking and ease of store access. The lot is clean and secure as well as allows for a minimum of traffic buildup along that busy stretch of service road. The store is always well stocked, clean, and possesses plenty of staff to be able to serve the needs of their customers. Its well lit, and is separated right down the middle men's and women's. Stocking the latest in southern professional and casual styles, they have Hart Schaffner and Marx, Adolfo, Chaps suits and sport coats in all sizes. However if its a special occasion and some planning, they can custom order and make you one! While they don't rent tuxedos, they also do custom fit Tails and tux's for Mardi Gras balls or whatever special occasion it may be. As a locally owned, family business, they do business with others in the area. Metzger's has bow ties from a southern company that makes handcrafted bow ties with peacock feathers, and deer bones etc in them. They also stock shirts and trousers out of a company in Dothan, and show the environmentally conscience side by stocking, Save the Duck alternative down jackets etc. They also have the latest in "prep" wear, Southern Proper, North Face, Ducks Head, etc. It doesn't stop there, they can also get you a new shaving kit, cologne, aftershave, shampoo conditioner etc. They also have a great selection of men's accessories, cufflinks, shirt stays, suspenders, etc. The staff is what caps off this Mobile fashion Icon, they are some of the friendliest, most knowledgeable guys around. Alan and Paul have been my primary contacts there and I have never been more impressed with a clothing store staff. They genuinely make me feel as if they care, and even steer me away from things that maybe don't look the best. They understand southern men's fashion and will push you as far as comfortable outside of your normal fashion box, or simply find you that next go to shirt or power tie. The tailoring done is done in house and is complimentary for the lifetime of a purchase and I must say, they are exceptionally good at it. All in all, they are my fashion go to, and without a doubt I have absolutely no hesitation about recommending them to anyone who needs that new suit, short, sport coat or even tailgate apparel. They have great team shirts and seem to have something to fit any and every occasion.
