I've been a repeat customer since 2012 but will no longer use Menrad for my repairs. I hired them to diagnose a leak in my 2016 Sprinter's 722.6 transmission which they failed to correctly address at my expense. Though Menrad is not specifically a transmission shop, they agreed to look at it since they have experience servicing this model transmission which was commonly used in many Mercedes (and Chrysler) models for several years. When first speaking with Randy about diagnosing my transmission leak, he agreed the job should take one to two hours. Unfortunately, only when picking up the vehicle did I learn the bill grew without authorization into a parts and near 3 hr labor bill totaling $467.08. For some reason the replaced part was a connector that they were made aware had been previously replaced three times without resolving the leak. With the fourth install similarly failing to resolve the leak, Menrad concluded that replacing the transmission Conductor plate would solve the problem. Menrad's quote for this job was over $1400 in addition to the $467.08 for their diagnosis. Due to cost, I chose to take on the conductor plate replacement myself. With the new part ordered online (roughly $100) I proceeded to remove the old conductor plate and take a closer look. Under extensive examination I was unable to observe ANY mechanical damage with the mating connection or supporting hardware. The threaded insert was intact and there were no cracks anywhere in the pin connector or mechanical brace. It was my opinion at this point that this conductor plate could not have been the reason for my leaking transmission plug. With the "old" conductor plate and attached valve body removed from the transmission, I finally learned what everyone had to be doing wrong which was creating the oil leak. Simply stated, the plug (which in my case had been replace now FOUR times) was NOT being SEATED properly against the transmission housing. Not being a Mercedes mechanic, I accept full blame for two of the failed installations. However, when you pay a "PROFESSIONAL MERCEDES MECHANIC", there's an expectation that this is not their first time performing ANY repair. Particularly, on a transmission that Mercedes had in production for many years and used in multiple cars and vans. Properly seating a poorly designed connector is exactly why one hires a professional mechanic in the first place. One shouldn't have to pay to R&D the proper installation technique to seal a production model transmission electrical plug. Rather than being refunded for the incorrect diagnosis, I was instead congratulated by Randy for "figuring it out". This is not what I expected from someone who I had done business with for years and had misdiagnosed a problem they should have been experienced in recognizing. I understand Menrad is not a trans repair shop, but a proper trans fluid servicing includes replacing this connector. This connector seating issue should have been the type of routine problem understood and anticipated by an experienced repair shop. Needless to say Menrad has still not offered a refund (partial or otherwise) for getting the diagnosis wrong, nor an apology for recommending an additional $1400+ in unnecessary repairs. Anyone have any recommendations?? (FULL DISCLOSURE: A Sprinter Van repair shop also failed at solving this issue, so there's clearly more than one repair shop who couldn't solve this issue on their first attempt. Designing such a part with a high rate of failure ultimately falls on Mercedes and/or the training provided their mechanics. Based on this and my 2005 SL/500 experience (a nightmare for another posting), I have without question, purchased my last Mercedes!) read more

I only have great things to say about Menrad Motors. I was referred to them by a friend of mine. After another shop completely botched up my vehicle and didn't do the job properly, I needed to find someone who knew how to properly work on a smart car. Other than obviously taking it into the dealership. And btw, there were only a couple of them left who knew how to work on my car too! Nevertheless, I explained in detail what had transpired from the previous shop and that the same job needed to be redone. It needed a new valve gasket cover/seal, spark plug seals, factory coils and spark plugs, etc. Oh and I needed it to pass smog too! Luckily, they were diligent, patient and very informative about the process, what was going on and what needed to happen to fix my car. The job was RE-done properly by Ramone and he was able to take my car to get smogged and now I am good to go, yay! PLUS their rates were extremely fair and reasonable. I was referred to this repair shop by an imports shop in Glendora. We have a 93 E300 that was having some leaking issues. When I took the car in, I asked that they check up on a bit of everything because the car was taken to another shop and it still runs like total crap. We had spoken to the owner about what needed to be done, he was quick o diagnose most of the problems during the 15 mins we were there. He was very helpful in giving us his parts pricing as well a his labor rate. I thought the labor was a little high ($90/hour), but we felt comfortable enough that they would get the car into tip top shape. We came out at fair price for as much as we had done, we are very pleased and excited to finally be able to drive it around with it overheating or dying out in an intersection! :) read more

Stopped on vacation; 125 miles away from home. The first and only time the Mercedes broke down. We had the car towed to the Mercedes Dealer in Orange County. Her G.L. was just out of factory warranty (about 1000 miles). The Mercedes dealer told me "The main computer went bad, it is dead and they must replace the unit." The service writer told me the repair was going to be over $2,500. We had the car towed to Randy at Menrad where they did performed a diagnostic to find the computer worked perfectly. So you have a Mercedes and you need it repaired. You don't need to go anywhere else. I wont bore you with my story other then Penske wanted over 10,000.00 minimum and would not give me any guarantees what so ever! They just wanted to replace parts. I searched and got referrals from other mechanics and found Jeff & Randy. So i have a 2010 Mercedes Bluetech diesel and I have a very good understanding of cars but this car has been by far the most difficult and challenging! Jeff was up for the Challenge and did the research and repaired it! :) His labor & parts were under 3500.00 . His hope and goodwill, PRICELESS! By the way i have owned over 100 vehicles. As far as i am concerned anyone who has a new Mercedes is paying too much if they go to the dealer. Use a car service, Uber or have a friend help you deliver your car with the money you save you can pay for the extra service and enjoy a great dinner. read more

I have been going to Menrad since 2008 and have always received great service at fair prices. I recently purchased a 1984 MB 300SD Turbo Diesel. Menrad has experienced technicians and was able to perform a valve adjustment. Few other shops can do this correctly. If you have an MB then this is the place to go. They also do the scheduled maintenance required by MB to keep your warranty current. read more

I trusted this facility with the detailing of a car I had for sale. My husband picked it up without inspecting it, as he expected good quality work. Upon inspection when he arrived home, he found all kinds of new black marks on the dash and inside of the vehicle, a browish substance all over the carpeting that was not present prior to bringing the car in, and white wax remnants all over the exterior black trim that hadn't been cleaned off during the detailing. They offered to inspect the car again and make it right , but it was being picked up by a buyer within the half hour. Needless to say, the detailing at this facility seemed to overlook the details. The guy who takes the calls and makes the appts promised good quality work, but then admittedly never even looked at it when it was completed. I would not trust this facility based on this experience. read more
