My husband and I got married at Switzer Farm in early June 2023, and emphatically recommend Sonya, Danielle, and Carol from Mendocino Weddings. Sonya was excellent at guiding us through the planning process, connecting us with the best vendors Mendocino has to offer, coordinating meetings, and shaping our vision for what's feasible up at Switzer (which can be hard to do when you've only seen a venue once!) While Sonya was excellent during the planning phase, she and her team really shined during the weekend itself. The set up for each of our 3 events was seamless, and Sonya beautifully assembled all of the small details we had planned for (welcome table, photo station, seating cards, etc.). Sonya & her team were one of our very first vendor selections for our wedding. We first hired them for a site tour around Mendocino which showed us some great locations, one of which we selected for our ceremony and probably never would have otherwise found (Russian Gulch). Throughout the process, Sonya over-delivered, was responsive and helped find creative solutions to some of our interesting requests (keeping ice cream cake at the right temperature in an outdoor venue, friends that did a surprise flashmob and more). She coordinated tons of vendors (including some not-so-easy ones) and doubled as our rentals point of contact via Bright Rentals. We went back and forth on whether we needed a rain tent about 5 times in the week or so leading up to the wedding and her reassurance we could make something work was very appreciated. It was important to me to not to have to worry about the details on the big day and Sonya made that not only possible but she & her team also did many small things to add an extra touch (ie: making sure the groom & I got our own plate of small bites during appetizer pass-arounds so we didn't go starving after photos). We loved working with Sonya and Mendocino Weddings to plan our wedding on the Mendocino Coast. Early on, Sonya was hugely helpful in securing local wedding vendors for our celebration (cake, rentals, florals, bar, restrooms etc.). This was incredibly helpful, since given the huge number of weddings in 2022 some vendors were very difficult to come by! Without Sonya's help it would have been very difficult if not impossible to have all the pieces in place to make our wedding a success. In the lead up to the wedding, Sonya was super communicative and met with us by phone once every 1-2 weeks to plan out the final details. Our guest list was changing constantly and Sonya worked with a local printer to print out our final seating chart the day before the event which helped reduce our stress significantly. Sonya also knew our venue inside and out which was really helpful for some of our vendors who had not been to this location previously. It was money well spent and I would highly suggest getting Sonya and her team as your wedding planners. Our wedding was at Cuffey's Cove in Elk (Mendocino Coast). It was especially nice working with Sonya because she is well connected in the area and has already made a great name for herself and her company. Sonya was not only professional, but also friendly and a great person to get to know. She set up vendor days, food tastings, ensured all venders were secured, facilitated the timeline, and so much more. She was incredibly responsive, and answered our many questions quickly. Where she really shined was on our wedding day. We picked mid September, due to that being some of the nicest weather on the coast of Mendocino. Of course, it rained all day on our wedding day. I reached out to Mendocino Weddings with high hopes and got a prompt response from Carol Sanders. It all went downhill, however, when I responded by asking to schedule a site tour and saying that we'd like to find a venue with a site fee under $5,000. When I still hadn't heard back two weeks later, I sent another email asking if I'd missed an email from her, hoping that there had been some sort of honest mistake. I have to rate this company one star because they never responded to either email! Perhaps my budget was too small to be worth their time? Even if this were the case, it is extremely impolite to ignore a client rather than take two minutes to say that you might not be a good match for our wedding. Deborah no longer owns Mendocino weddings and I think Teri would agree that this is a good change. We could not have asked for a better wedding planner than Sonya Houston for our wedding of 200 guests. First of all she is really knowledgeable and gave us great advice. She genuinely seems to know every vendor for 200 miles, and when we had special requests for things she was able to source them for us, which saved us many hours and heaps of stress. And we did have lots of special requests, about the food and the decor etc. But Sonya understood our tastes immediately and got right to work finding just what we had in mind. She got us, and the vision we had for the wedding. All the vendors that she introduced us to turned out to be perfect - very professional and creative. The other great thing about Sonya is that she's really great to work with. She gets down to business, but she's really easy going and pleasant to interact with. If she was annoyed by my million emails and questions about this or that detail she never let it show. And it rained - no, more like poured cats and dogs - on our wedding day. As it was an outdoor wedding for 200 guests, a lot of nerves were a bit strained by the weather, but Sonya was prepared with the backup tent and everything we needed to make it all work out in spite of the weather. She knew what to do, and did it with a smile. We decided to get married in Mendocino. I am a can-do kind of gal and am always looking for the best value. I thought I could put it all together on my own from the moderate distance of Calistoga. As the wedding was in March, I needed an indoor/outdoor venue. After months of internet searching - I was a few months from the big day - with no venue! I caved in and hired a wedding planner - mainly to find the venue. The gal I picked randomly (not Mendocino Weddings) recommended the prefect location - The Headlands House, a private residence just outside of town. Right on the bluff, but also a fabulous glass atrium that could accommodate the ceremony indoors if the weather was bad (it was.... hail! and wind storm). This particular planner did not return my calls regularly so I did not use her for the rest of the planning. However, I did recognize the benefit of using a professional at this point, because it was too close. I called Sonya at Mendocino Weddings, and she immediately put me at ease. EVERYTHING I mean everything down to any detail and anything that matters to you Sonya takes care of. She thinks of so many things that you have not even though of. She is insanely talented and full of information; she listens and does everything that you have asked and then more! She really wants you to have that ultimate experience. I have never felt so at ease and taken care of, our families as well! I am a compulsive person and relaxing when it comes to planning something as big as your wedding is a very hard thing to do. Working with Sonya for over a year up to our big day made me feel and know that we had made the absolute BEST decision in our wedding planning process, hands down. Worth every penny and then some! This is a bit of a late review, but Sonya was absolutely stellar and I had to make sure I left a review. Our wedding was last October and we are from the Bay Area so we were planning the wedding from out of town. Sonya was invaluable with making it an amazing wedding. We hired her as a limited planner, and she was able to provide the framework, referrals, and amazing insights/recommendations to make it a perfect wedding. She provided great insight into the seasonal weather and how to plan to help make sure people were comfortable, also we had a morning ceremony then an evening potluck and she was really helpful in figuring out the logistics so that we could make that transition easily. Oh! Then day of the wedding, I had made my own decorations and again she made it so easy. During rehearsal I told her my vision, left all the decorations out for her the night before, and the day of she absolutely took care of everything. I really can't say enough wonderful things about Sonya. She helped us plan our October 2011 wedding and it turned out beautifully! We were not the couple who entered into wedding planning with a strict vision. The only things important to us were that we get married in the Mendocino area and that our guests felt welcome and relaxed. Sonya did a phenomenal job of helping us put everything else together. Having a family home in Fort Bragg, I was sure that planning a wedding in the area would be something we could tackle on our own-- how wrong I was! Sonya is an absolute wealth of knowledge, has contacts all over the area and has amazing ideas! Its easy to look at blogs all day long to identify an aesthetic, but its entirely something else to actually execute it. Living in San Luis Obispo, we weren't able to be in Mendocino for all of the planning and roadblocks that you inevitably run into when planning a wedding-- Sonya took care of all of it for us. From a Vendor Day when we got to pick all of our vendors in one fell swoop, to her close relationships with all of our vendors, Sonya was such a great help and saved us so much stress leading up to our wedding day and the day of. For the first time in years, I spent the day with no idea of what time it was, and with no care about what needed to happen next, because Sonya took care of it all. In the end, our wedding was exactly what we hoped it would be. Six months later, we still hear from our guests that ours was one of the most thoughtful weddings they'd ever been to and that they can't wait to return to Mendocino for a visit. I can't thank Sonya enough for all that she did to help us figure out what we wanted and how to do it-- and even more, that she was excited to help us share a place that is so special to us with our friends and family. read more

Sonya was our day of wedding planner after a disastrous out of state wedding planner proved to be highly ineffective and unprofessional. She stepped in and was immediately reassuring, well connected, and answered our every question. Our wedding went off without a hitch at Spring Ranch, and my husband and I both commented that we know that would not have been the case without Sonya. From putting me in touch with all of our amazing vendors, helping organize and personalize each of our small wedding details, and even fetching me an herbal elixir in Mendocino on the day of the event to help my failing voice, Sonya was kind, professional, and a delight to work with. We are completely grateful to Sonya for making our wedding seamless and stress-free. Sonya had obviously done this before so I decided to sit back and put my trust in her, and I'm so glad I did! Her creativity and logistical coordination was over-the top. It was always a fun and positive experience to engage in the planning process with her.
