I visited Dr. Mendelovitz after an absence of ten years (during which time I had seen other dentists) regarding a molar that required replacement. A brief history: In 2014 Dr. Mendelovitz had detected a cavity between two molars and filled them both. One molar developed a nerve irritation which required a root canal, which may or may not have been caused by overzealous drilling. Perhaps I had waited too long to receive treatment and the fault was mine. Either way he referred me to an endodontist who did the root canal, and then I was sent back to Mendelovitz to get a crown put on the tooth. Shortly thereafter a gap developed between the two molars, in which food particles would get stuck, and I returned to Mendelovitz to address this, which he agreed to do by replacing the filling with a larger one free of charge. But on the day of the appointment I had an accident (broken limb) which required me to cancel and put me out of commission for some time. I then obtained proper medical insurance, and as Mendelovitz was out of my network, I saw another doctor who replaced the back filling, but there was still a gap! I lived with this gap for almost a decade, and food would get caught which would be difficult to extract even with dental tape, often causing bleeding, swelling, and pain. But I hesitated to get the filling replaced again, fearing a repeat of the prior nerve root irritation and I didn't want another root canal. After nearly ten years I could live with the gap no longer and returned to Mendelovitz to see about having the filling replaced with a partial crown or whatever he recommended. Since he wasn't in my network I was charged around $200 for the office visit, and he told me he didn't feel confident replacing the filling and referred me to an endodontist for a "minor surgery" he didn't specify. He advised using fluoride toothpaste to rebuild the enamel in the meantime. I had also scheduled a cleaning but that somehow got loss sight of during the visit, which seemed regrettable at the time but saved me another $150 or so. The front desk seemed to be pretty disorganized. So I went to a new dentist within my insurance network (the dentist who had replaced the filling no longer accepted my insurance) who replaced the filling with a partial crown, no questions asked and everything has been great. No endodontist, minor surgery, etc. And the partial crown was made on a 3D printer while I waited, so no second visit required. I'm not certain what all the fuss was about. I guess I understand Mendelovitz's hesitation, after all it's not good form for a dentist to cause or contribute to too many root canals, but he's been in practice so many years (indeed I used to go to him in college, back in the early 90s!) that you'd think his advice would be more sound. To the credit of the good doctor, I still use fluoride toothpaste, which was his recommendation, so something came out of the $200 office visit charge. But not as much as I'd have hoped. Moral of the story: don't wait to have dental work, and second opinions can be worth their weight in gold ... or whatever material the printer generates. read more

Dr. Mendelovitz over treats his patients and is very money hungry. Beware! He's very aggressive with his recommendations. I'd look for a more conservative doctor. I got a 2nd opinion elsewhere and was very relieved I don't go ahead with his plan. read more

I switched to this office after my previous dentist stopped carrying my insurance. The appointment was like being at a car dealership. I had my x-rays sent over from my previous dentist and they insisted on doing more at no cost to me but weeks later I see a charge for the x-rays on my benefits page. After the extra x-rays I was strongly encouraged to get a filling on a tooth that has never bothered me or stood out to my previous dentist (I go every 6 months). After declining to have the procedure I had to sit and wait for 45 minutes before the hygienist could see me for the cleaning...it was as if they build their schedules around getting patients to agree to unnecessary work. The hygienist was kind, thorough and informative but suggested I come in more frequently which also seemed like a money grab. Lastly, I do not believe Dr. Mendelovitz still practices here or maybe at all, so if you're looking for him specifically, you won't find him here. read more

This team is the best. I don't say that lightly. I've been to 5+ dentists for complications. The new Dr. Ted (I forgot last name is the real deal). Drives an hour to come to work each day because he loves it. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They don't recommend something that wasn't in my best interest although I know financially it would have been beneficial to them. They are absolute rockstars and my family will be going to them for the rest of our lives! Thank you team. read more

Like many others who wrote in their review, this clinic regularly tries to scam its customers. Before I come in, I would double check with my own insurance plan and double check that they saw the same and we would agree on the price. In June 2022, I had a cavity filling which costed me around $100, which I paid for on the spot. I proceeded to get a bill which was around $117 instead. I double checked with the office, and for some reason they "missed" my bill. In January 2023, I had my regular biannual dental cleaning. I asked them to confirm that this would be no charge, which they did. I then proceeded to get another bill for full fees, and called the office. They told me that I needed to fight with my insurance, which was a hassle as well. Eventually they decided to waive the fees after I cancelled my appointment for June 2023 later that year. Turns out it was just an attempt to snag more money from me. I ended up scheduling another visit in Jan 2024. Here, I had a conversation with the front desk about how much would be applied to my deductible, and how much I would have to pay up front. When I received the invoice from my insurance, I had found that the clinic had charged me TWICE as much as they should have, and once again I need to go through my insurance to get my money back. This office causes more trouble than its worth. There are so many other clinics where you can get services from that are trustworthy and will not find ways to rob you of your money. read more

Dr Mendelovitz and his staff are the best. It's easy to get an appointment. Everyone is friendly and accommodating. It's spotless and organized. The equipment is state of the art which allows work to be completed in one trip not multiple trips. They even make their own crowns, inlays etc while you wait. No need for temporary crowns etc and multiple procedures. Prices are reasonable. read more

Bad administration. Front desk doesn't know about anything. Tried to get a root canal and asked relevant information on the procedures, price, and care just in advance so that I have a rough picture of what I am expecting, but none of them give any answers even the slightest. I know I have to get the details from the doctor, but seriously just give some basic information so that we don't waste the doctor's appointment for something I could have received from the front desk. In general very poor and incompetent front desk. read more

This dentist sold his practice and the office nor DDS advised patients. They have been through several office staff and I resigned from staying as a patient after the poor handling of my care. I had to cancel same day as the appointment and they insisted I pay a fee for a no show. The manager was very unprofessional and I am glad I decided not to stay on as a patient. Avoid this practice. read more

They solicited me to come during covid. Reluctantly I did. The office checked my insurance coverage incorrectly and informed me the dental cleaning would be covered. This office was in error, performed me the procedure, then billed FULL fees. I'm now receiving threatening letters from a bill collector. I need to have my legal team deal with this situation. More facts to come but generally, this a very terrible practice. read more

I used to rave about Dr. Mendelovitz' State-Of-The-Art 3-D Digital Printing Equipment that could create a perfectly matched crown to fit your space & match your teeth in minutes while you're still in the chair! I used to praise his being on the Dental Speaker circuit promoting what's "New" in dentistry and his "PHILanthropy" when in exchange for his talks, he got the manufacturer to give UCLA Dental school ten digital printers (worth over $100k each!)... But today, during Covid, I'm particularly grateful for his caring hygienists & administrative staff, whose friendly, efficient & professional service made me feel save as they took care during my periodic cleaning & check-up. read more

May 11th was my first visit and I provided a high rating. The service was great! The receptionists were helpful, courteous and friendly. That's important because I'm always anxious prior to visiting the dentist. The technician took X-rays, cleaned my teeth and gave advice how I should up game my in-home dental treatments. The dentist was polite, answered my questions. I felt at ease. After my appointment, I walked the UCLA campus for a little exercise...took the stairs a few times to build up the heart rate. It's easy to walk a mile on campus. The area was beautiful and full of energy. One more important point...if you need to call the dentist's office, you get a live person. I didn't have to stay on the phone and press several numbers to get my questions answered. They get a high rating for customer service. read more

BUYER BEWARE! This dentist has terrible dentist practices. Mendelovitz used the "CEREC" machine for two front Veneers which is already a huge mistake and he didn't fit, case, secure them properly so bacteria got in and caused cavities under the Veneer. Thank god my new dentist caught in time so I wouldn't have to have a root canal. Long story short, they won't refund me the money on the Veneers ($2200). They should have lasted 40 years and these lasted only 4. Additionally, one had a chip on it and was uncomfortable and too thick. Furthermore, he has terrible bed side manner. When I left his office I felt not confident about my mouth because he told me "you need some work done but it's like wearing shoes--there not quit ready to be pitched and you don't need it done yet" excuse me? I couldn't believe my ears. PRO TIP: Always ask what LAB your Veneers are being made and what technician the company uses. Machine Veneers are NOT to be used EVER! On march 11,2019 I called his office and spoked to Israel I asked him please let me know why I have not heart back from Dr.Mendelovitz regarding to go forward with the treatment plan. I love going here for my dental work. Dr. Mendelovitz is very kind, skilled, honest, and truly cares for his patients' health and looks out for them. I wasn't getting used to my mouth guard so he offered to give me another one for free and ship it to my home for free. Wow, that's very generous and nice. I think most dentist would charge for that. The office staff is amazing. The front desk is always helpful, friendly, and polite. My hygienist, Karen has the most gentle hands and never keeps me waiting. In fact, I don't remember waiting more than 10 minutes ever. I recommended Dr. Mendelovitz to two of my friends who had anxiety and fear about going to see a dentist and having dental work done. After their visits, they both agreed that Dr. Mendelovitz and his were great and now they actually like going to the dentist! FYI: He has a soothing voice. So even if he tells you that you're going to have a root canal it doesn't sound so terrible. And don't worry: even if you did have that root canal it wouldn't hurt. He's very gentle and capable. read more

I obviously was in a good mood, when I wrote my review after my last appointment at Phil's. (See review below) Why else would I include a Youtube link to "The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face," right? Anyway, it was brought to my attention that perhaps I should write a more professional review: I have been a happy patient of Phil Mendelovitz for a few decades. I've sent my wife, 3 kids, a cousin, and several of my employees to Phil throughout the years. I never heard a complaint. A couple years ago, I even ran into one of my former employees in the waiting room. She was making arrangement to have her teenage daughter transition over to Phil's office from their pediatric dentist. My wife works for UCLA's Vice Chancellor of Finance. She too has referred many to Phil's office...and everyone in her office is happy with the standard of care that they've received. In addition to Phil's gentle manner and genuine concern, he's also one of the country's foremost experts in the use of Computer Aided 3-D "printing" that digitally mills perfect fitting restorative crowns while you wait! UCLA received 10 machines from the manufacturer...and UCLA didn't know what to do with them. The Manufacture fingered Phil to come and teach how to use them. He's also been invited to lecture and demonstrate how to use this new technology both here and in Europe. If you want gentle care and the convenience of the latest in dental technology, you won't find a better practice than Phil Mendelovitz, DDS read more

My experience at this office was unlike any other. I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff, and spent what amounted to less than a minute in the waiting room reading my favorite car magazines. Dr. Parsa swiftly showed me to my chair and had all of my documents and charts ready. Knowing that I have sensitive gums and cleanings can be painful, she gently made her way through and warned me of areas that may be more sensitive. She showed me the progress of my orthodontics treatment on her computer, assuring me that all of the effort I'm putting into wearing my aligners has been well worth it. Even through she was working without the help of an assistant, she managed to get me out on time so I could make it to my next meeting. If there more Dr. Parsas in this profession, I'm sure the stereotypical "trip to the dentist" will carry a very different meeting! read more

I went to see Dr Mendelovitz to repair a front veneer and I was completely impressed and blown away with him and his entire office!!! From the first smiling face at the desk making me feel welcome, to the engaging dental assistants, I felt like family. Dr Mendelovitz is so humble and yet so knowledgeable and professional I had hoped he would be able to handle my difficult case. He hit it out of the ballpark!!! The main thing about him is his incredible attention to detail and his experience. He not only removed my front veneer, scanned my tooth, milled my temporary from fine porcelain-like material, but he personally stained, glazed and characterized my temporary to match my other surrounding teeth flawlessly!!! It was amazing how he was able to match the original with beautiful detail - he is so skillful. I was almost ready to cement the temporary!!! His injection was painless, and his hands and mannerisms were gentle and kind. That is the kind of dentist you go back to see over and over, because you trust them with your smile - and would refer your family to him - because he is that kind of exceptional quality. His warmth and generosity is also something you rarely find these days in most dental offices. Epic dentist - my highest recommendation. read more

*THIS REVIEW IS FOR DR. PARSA* So I came into LA to visit family, when I started having some tooth discomfort (plus I was long overdue for a cleaning). Fearing it might be a cavity, I called my regular dentist's office to make an appointment, however he didn't have anything available at the times that I could go. So I was referred to Dr. Sheila Parsa by a good friend of mine...and let me tell you, she's a true gem in the dental industry!! As soon as I sat in the chair, something made me feel like I made the right choice. She was so kind and friendly, that it felt like I've known her for years. Immediately she asked about the discomfort in my molars, she took a quick glance, and explained what she was going to do, step-by-step. She took a complete set of x-rays and literally gave me the a thorough, yet concise explanation of what's going on in my mouth, and the potential causes of my discomfort. She then proceeded to gear up and start the cleaning process! She explained that sometimes the discomfort I was feeling may be alleviated after a simple cleaning. I was relieved because the last thing I wanted to hear is that I would need a filling. She did, however, say that I should keep an eye on the tooth that was bothering me, and that if the discomfort doesn't go away, to come back so that we could investigate further. I really really appreciated this about her, because, I feel like most dentists will almost immediately start drilling/filling right away. She took a conservative approach...who does that? Dr. Parsa does, because she is fantastic!! THERE IS A BIG BUT, however....I am only giving this office 4 stars, only because when I first arrived, I was very rudely greeted by some older blonde lady who was on the phone, having a very loud, and elaborate conversation about someone having a C-section. I told her I had an appt with Dr. Parsa, and she said "she'll be with you in a minute"....ummmmm I'm a new patient...I need to fill out paper work?!?! A few minutes after, another staff member came out and was shocked I wasn't given paper work to fill. The staff, other than the inappropriately loud blonde lady was also amazing. Thank you Dr. Parsa....I'll be changing my dentist officially! I've never enjoyed a teeth cleaning the way I did today! read more

I first wrote a review of Dr. Mendelovitz about a year ago. I had recently moved to LA and was he was recommended to me by a colleague. I had always had a terrible relationship with dentists because I have very bad teeth genetically with lots of cavities, root canals and crowns from an early age and bad judgmental and painful experiences. I have now been seeing Dr. Mendelovitz for a year and he and his staff have changed my life. He is kind, reassuring, painless, awesomely skilled, super attentive to detail (a perfectionist), always goes the extra mile, cares about his patients as people not just procedures, uses the most current technologies and is always responsive (he came into the office on a day he normally doesn't just for me and on Christmas eve for a friend. My teeth are in much better shape now, I am more confident and I know no longer dread going to the dentist. read more

Dr. Mendelovitz is wonderful, however....... Its a shame his office staff is so unprofessional. I will NEVER go back there EVER AGAIN! The office manager HORRIBLE out right rude and nasty. I have never experienced anything like this. As a UCLA employee I'm so disappointed. I plan on writing a review to the BBB and the CEO of UCLA. Everyone needs to know that employee Karen and Jenelle are the worst and need to be released as employees. I contacted the office yesterday about how to pay a bill and I was told random comments about "they don't work for free"! I was shocked- when I brought it to their attention how rude and unprofessional they are- they double teamed me and essentially verbally attacked me, then hung up on me. No apologies, no NOTHING. Just disgusting! I'm done with there office. It's a shame because my entire family was going there....not anymore! I will share this experience with EVERYONE and ANYONE that will listen !!!! I have been a patient of Phil's for more than 20 years and throughout this two decade relationship I have never had a bad experience. Both my wife and I have had new fillings, old fillings replaced crowns and other dental work and he has consistently provided the best dental care possible. He was one of the first dentists in the region to use digital X-rays and if you need a crown, it can be 'milled' and inserted in a single visit. If you have anxiety about visiting a dentist, I strongly recommend him. He has a very easy going manner and he will explain what he is doing and why. And I can't recall a time when I felt significant pain or discomfort during or following a procedure. Both of my children have been his patients and they both thought he was great. We are all Phil's fans. The Mendelovitz practice is staffed by a wonderful group of people who contribute in making you feel as comfortable as possible. I am phobic about Dentists but walking in and being greeted by Karen sets such a pleasant tone. Then there is his long time assistant, Denali, who is as good as it gets. Doctor Mendelovitz did amazing job, can't say the same about some of his staff. I was told by the staff that the cleaning was going to be 100% covered by my insurance, but later ended up having to pay 20%; I was told by the staff that the crowns are going to be 80% covered by my insurance, but ended up having to pay 30% out of pocket. Their explanation: "We cannot guarantee what the insurance pays". The reason actually is that they weren't aware that their contract with Delta wasn't PPO, but premiere. So, make sure you check and verify your policy and coverage before committing to the procedures. Also, Karen could be rude and intimidating on the phone. I think you are enough intimidated by the fact you are going to the dentist's office. Also, after the procedure I've been experiencing pain for several days, and called the office couple times, no response, I left a voicemail , but no one called back. once again, the doctor himself and the hygiene specialist are great. Just make sure you get the correct coverage estimation. Premiere covers less than PPO. read more
