I have ordered twice online from the Normal Il store. Both times they showed the items in stock. Then I get a message that the store can't fill the online order. Menards was always my go to store. I'm very disappointed. My wife loves Home depot across the road. She orders from there at least once a month. She never has any issues. I may have to switch to Home depot. Sad. read more

The employees are ALWAYS helpful and in good moods! They don't hesitate one moment to help you themselves, or get someone for you ASAP. Regarding the Normal, IL store: **Kudos to CJ. I have a bum leg and he went to get me a large cart so I didn't have to walk to far! Superior! **Kudos to Ben. He helped me with a garbage disposal question. I appreciated his advice... & that he reminded me that he's not a licensed plumber! Excellent advice and honesty! **Kudos to Janeen. She rang up my items and suggested things. Smiled the entire time and friendly and funny...but did her job the entire time. The line wasn't held up at all! Amazing! read more

DO NOT BUY INTERIOR DOORS FROM MENARDS !!! there is a reason why I call them "mastercrap" doors. Making a door out of mdf is a ridiculous concept. I bought a new washer yesterday, took my order ticket to the back to pick up my new washer in my dad's truck, strapped it in, and drove it home. It was a big to-do finding people to get it unloaded just into my house until it could be hooked up the next day. I got home from work the next day (it was installed while I was at work), and it's the not the right washer! I called to let them know, and they expected me to bring that one back and come get the other one! I live 30 minutes away, I don't have a truck, and it was a hassle trying to find anyone to help me unload it! They wouldn't "comp" a delivery because I didn't have the first one delivered. Great customer service they have there! I'd also like to add that I was in contact with their store manager about donating a few cheap things to my classroom to go along with our tubes and tunnels investigation, and he gave me his email and told me to email him a list of things I was thinking. So I emailed him the list and he replied that they wouldn't be able to donate anything. read more

Menards is my go to store! It was a little tough navigating the remodel at first because so many of the departments were relocated. Now that a lot of that has settled down I really feel that things are much more organized. I feel the associates are very patient and knowledgeable and I appreciate their assistance. When I go in there and have questions they come through. read more

I purchased shingles over the phone. Called twice to confirm pick up and then get redirected three times to find them and then they were completely different packaging in an over stock area of the lumber hard. The lumber yard is a cluster and a half, the shipping and receiving/special order pick up room had one employee at 10:50am. And magically at 11:50 three 20 some year old employees come walking out. And only one persona asked if I've been helped the entire time I was waiting. 1.5 hours for 2 bundles of shingles..... Pretty ridiculous! read more

I HATE this Menard's. I kinda dislike the Menard's concept generally: the stores are have too wide a scope with insufficient depth within each category of products. This Menard's, however, is worse than any other I have ever been to. I don't know if the manager is incompetent or what, but the employees are universally out to lunch (figuratively) or just plain mean. First, I had to search high and wide for a basket b/c I didn't want a huge cart for my small purchase. The people behind the customer service desk (who had the only shopping basket I saw the entire time I was in the store on their counter) acted like I was an asshole because I wasn't going to fill a cart with $300 worth of crap and lumber through the store for hours. Then, I asked approached 3 employees hanging out at a random counter in the middle of the store and was given the stink eye by the one who resigned to meet my gaze. The other two refused to look at me, as then they might have to help me and do work at work. I asked the one where two products were, and he was totally useless. He couldn't describe where it was effectively, nor would he lead me there. When I finally found it, they were out of the one product that fit my needs. Third, when finally ready to leave that 60-acre roofed hellhole (no, I was not able to find everything, but I had to cut my losses b/c I was on lunch break), I approached a checker who had his light on. As I hustled over, he lunged for the light to turn it off and when I gave him a pleading look (the other lines were 3 hippos deep) he told me with a shit-eating grin: "You snooze, you lose." I wanted to punch that fucktard in the throat. After waiting for nearly 10 minutes in line, I finally was able to escape to the fresh air of the parking lot. The day I visited was the day in the late fall of 2010 when the whole of the Midwest was freaking out over "Windpocalypse" in which everybody and their sister had been warned over and over again about the gusts caused by an Indian Summer and a cold front or something. So, on this windiest day of the year, every single fucking cart corral was overfilled with shopping carts. Not one employee was out there bringing any of them in. I watched as the wind hurtled one of these forlorn carts t against my car, gouging/denting it impressively in two places. Then I drove away from Menard's parking lot for the last time. read more

I visit this store a lot and if truth be known I spend too much money here. Anyway, my wife and I bought new kitchen cabinets for a recent remodel. Phil is the kitchen cabinet dept's manager and one of the best salesman that we have encountered. He is friendly, very knowledgeable, and willing to work with the customer. My wife, who is a stickler for detail, had to call him several times regarding our cabinet order. Each time he was friendly and very courteous. We had only one problem with a measurement that he promptly corrected. As a matter of fact, the entire kitchen cabinet sales team are top notch. I highly recommend them. read more

Worst customer service in the town. I was in a checkout line that was backed up. A clerk opened an new line. I asked a couple in front of me if they wanted to go ahead which they did. I also went to that line. It took awhile for the other people to check out. Finally it was my turn. The clerk said (after one transaction) "I have to leave the register. You will have to go to a different line.", and she walked away. All the other lines were now backed up even further. I couldn't believe it! I laid my items on the checkout counter and walked out. I doubt I will ever go back to Menards. Unbelievable read more

Menards is a very poorly run company. Their customer service is a rude email that will tell you there is nothing they can do about your problem. Their management doesn't seem to have a clue as to what is going on in their store. Their products are cheap because they are CHEAPLY MADE. I recommend taking your "big box business" to the Home Depot (conveniently right across the street!) where they care about their customers and their reputation. My bad experience: After failing to deliver an $800 bathtub (paid for in full) they claim they don't have it. Also, their rude email service has advised the delivery department KEEPS NO RECORDS and I will not receive my tub. If you would like to avoid being robbed, avoid Menards!!! read more

This is my go to home improvement store. Prices are usually better than other stores in that area and there is always staff around to ask questions or help locate items. I was surprised by some of the negative reviews but I have never had a problem here. They are currently re-doing the lumber yard. It is open but not all set up and perfectly organized. When I picked up drywall all the signs were not up which staff told me ahead of time and explained where I needed to go. read more

Menard's had a total fail when I was there this week. Here are the events when I went to pick up two shelves that I'd special ordered: 1) I stood waiting at the customer service desk while three employees chatted it up for about 5 minutes; 2) surly short guy begrudgingly waited on me to give me the paperwork I'd need back at the special pick up dock; 3) after driving to the pickup dock, they couldn't find my shelves; 4) I had to leave without the shelves to get to a doctor's appointment; 5) same short guy was at the exit gate and wouldn't let me leave because the man in the pickup area kept my paperwork. The little Nazi kept shouting that I had to have the paperwork. I kept telling him it was with the fellows in the pickup area. We seemed to be in some hostage situation. Finally, I just drove away and, thankfully, the gate wasn't down. read more

Staff was rude when purchasing a pole barn. Then called and complained to me after I had a problem with the order.

We were at Menards in Normal this morning. We managed to find most of what we needed but were unable to find a wooden dowel. We asked one man and he said, "they are in hardware". So, since he didn't tell us where we could find "hardware " in basically a hardware store we tried unsuccessfully to find it in our own. Then we stopped another fellow and he told us, "they are at the very end of row 145." So we set off to find row 145. We found it but not the dowels. We decided to check out and surely the cashier would ask us, "did you find everything?" And we would tell her that we did not. She did not. It is very sad that customer service is gone from America. I hope it comes back soon. read more

After much deliberation and going back and forth, I ordered a Duramax vinyl backyard shed from Menards on May 7th to be delivered to my home. I got an email that it would be delivered on May 18th. After waiting and waiting (with much patience) I finally emailed the vendor to find out where my shed was...no response. On June 1st I received an email saying that the shed had been delivered to Menards and ready for pick up. I contacted Menards to find out the status of my shed and they said they would deliver it on June 3rd. At 5pm on June 3rd I contacted Menards to find out where my shed was. After stumbling and mumbling they admitted they received it but now couldn't find it. (Mind you...this is an 8' by 6' shed) They told me they would look for it and call me on June 4th to give me a status update. I called Menards at 12pm on June 4th and they again told me they couldn't find my shed. (ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?) They said they would look some more and call me in a few hours. They finally called me at 4pm to tell me they couldn't locate my shed and they would reorder it for me and I should expect it in 10 days. (YEAH RIGHT! THATS WHAT THEY SAID ON MAY 7th!). I asked how much of a discount they were going to give me for my inconvenience and they told me they couldn't give me a discount. I politely told them to shove their shed and refund my $800+. Their customer service and lack of professionalism is one for the ages. Shop ANYWHERE ELSE! read more

Menard's has always been great for us in general. However the extended warranty is awful to deal with. They do not return calls and have no consideration for the amount of time you are without an appliance I consider necessary, a fridge. Going on 3 weeks without fridge that was purchased in December 2013. Was told today when calling about the 5th repair visit being scheduled and the 5th part being ordered that the supervisors told employees not to contact them after 5:15 in the warranty department. The supervisor was to contact me back Tuesday the 11th after my complaint the 10th. The manager in the appliance department was great however he of course can do nothing because the extended warranty division has to handle everything. read more

Huge store which is overwhelming. Although I've purchased some items here they lack good customer service. Wanted to buy baseboards and needed them cut and the employee said they don't do that here "and neither does Lowes or Home Depot". Lo and behold we went to HD and of course they said "we can do that for you!" Please don't outright lie to get us to buy from you. Also employees always avoid and ignore you and it's often a wild goose chase to find one to help you. And when you do they often act like you're bothering them. Cashiers barely talk as well. Sorry Menards you don't live up to your hype. read more

Overall, I like Menard's for value but I have had horrible experiences with their paint and customer service in that department. First of all, I spent $300 on 6 gallons of paint and it was not a good product. It was Dutch Boy Dimensions. I had someone paint for me with the first gallon and it took 2 wks to sand it off. I took over after that but I could see why the person had problems painting. It took me l2 hrs to do a small project which should not have taken more than 2 hrs. The paint runs terrible. And it's not waterproof. In this case, neither the paint or glaze are waterproof. If the wall gets wet even a couple mos. later paint runs everywhere and the paint job has to be redone. 3 of the gallons were glaze paints. They did not put enough paint in the glaze. It looked terrible. I have one gallon I'm just going to have to throw out--if it had more of the paint color in it it would be ok. One gallon of the glaze was a good color and that is the glaze that runs when wet, along with the paint. The other gallon I took back to have more paint applied. They did not give me the correct color. They said I could get a refund because they made this mistake but customer service refused to refund it because I only have one credit card I have ever used but I had changed the credit card number since making the purchase. They said their system would not allow the return under those circumstances. Unfortuantely, I bought more paint there before I started taking it over myself since the first person used the first gallon and I replaced that. I think Valspar at Lowe's is a far better product. It is easy to work with and easy to apply and doesn't run when wet months later. Sherwin Williams also has an excellent product which goes on very smoothly. You only have to use a little bit and you get what you pay for. I am done with Dutch Boy paint at Menard's. This has been a costly lesson to learn and I am on a very small retirement pension. i can't even run my humidifier near the painted walls because the paint will run! And it wasn't cheap paint. read more

A WARNING TO ALL CONSUMERS: DO NOT PURCHASE GAS POWERED EQUIPMENT AT MENARD'S!!! I purchased a Poulan lawn mower at Menard's in Normal, used it for a week, realized that it was a very inferior product that mowed horribly and would not stay running. As consumers, we have all purchased items that did not meet our expectations, and we all have the right to return them if defective, but that is not the case at Menard's. When I returned to the store, I was asked the same question by three different managers, and that was "Did you put gas in it?" If so, you are out of luck! I'm not sure how I am supposed to know if the product is defective if we don't put gas in it, but Menard's doesn't care about that. After several discussions with the store manager, Darren Visser, who was extremely unprofessional, I was told that I could take it to the local "authorized" service center, which was Midwest Equipment in Normal. When I took it in and told the service manager why I was there, he said "What did you expect, you bought it at Menard's, it's a piece of s##! Apparently, Menard's and Midwest Equipment share the same customer service philosophy. When they were unable to help me resolve the situation, I went back to the store manager and he told me that there was another service center in Leroy that I could take it to. When I took it there, I was told by the owner that she would not do the work because Menard's owes her money, and until she was paid she could not proceed. Menard's agreed to pay the long overdue bill so she proceeded with the work. My emails were forwarded to a corporate employee who apologized for the problem that I was having and offered to help resolve the situation. He called the service center and then contacted me and said he would warranty out a part which was only a very small part of the problem. When the service center called me, I was told that I would have to pay for the part because Menard's does not pay their bills. So now I still have a defective mower and in addition I have to pay a repair bill on a brand new mower. FYI, if you ever have a problem at Menard's with anything and you wish to speak with someone other than the store manager such as a corporate employee in Customer Service, you can't. They have insulated the store manager from answering to anyone about anything by putting the customer in an eternal loop. If you call Customer Service, you leave a voice mail that is forwarded to the very person that you had the problem with and that person calls you back. There is no accountability whatsoever. I went to both of Menard's main competitors (Home Depot, Lowe's) and asked them if I bought a piece of gas powered equipment from them and I didn't like it, what would their return policy be? Both told me that I could return for any reason within 30 days, which is all you can ask as a consumer. Menard's could have handled this situation, and I would have remained a happy customer. They chose not to handle it at all so I will not be back read more

I agree with everyone who hates menards. This is the worst store I ever worked at. The little girls that worked there are the worst cashiers including head cashiers. Too much chatter and not enought customer service focus. They are too loud and abnoxious. I am so embarrassed by them. Even customers have asked me what their problem was. All I can tell them is that I guess Menards dont care about how workers are suppose act on the job. They dont take pride in their jobs. Im glad Im out of there. Working for a company now who cares about quality of service and reliability of employees condiuct. Im proud to be working for them and not Menards. Menards is not family friendly when it comes to its employees and they dont care if your sick either. If you have snots and vomit coming out of you, you are expected to work and not call off. They will tell you NO!!!!! If you have a family function that you need to go to..forget it!!! Your working. They FROWN ON YOU for having out of your hands issues. Its not their fault your sick, family event, someone sick and dying in hospital. You are DEMANDED to work. Your better off working and shopping somewhere else. OH BY THE WAY....THEY DONT I MEAN DONT GIVE ANY KIND OF DISCOUNTS TO SENIOR CITIZENS, MILITARY VETERANS, ACTIVE MILTARY. HOW MANY TIMES I HAD TO APOLOGIZED FOR THAT!!! I felt so ashame to work for a company like that. MENARDS IS SELFISH!!!! read more

I've never had trouble getting the help I need, and I usually find what I'm looking for. My problem is with the whole pricing scheme. Why should I have to jump through the rebate hoop to get a good deal? Frequently, if there's a store-wide rebate, I'll find another customer on my way out and ask if they mess with the rebates. If they do - and that's actually rare - I hand them my receipt and wish them a good day. If there's NOT a store-wide rebate And I have a relatively large purchase to make, I go to Home Depot, just across the street. They don't have milk & cookies & canned goods, but they have everything you'd actually expect to find at a lumber yard/hardware store. read more

I went to the store to purchase blinds that were to be cut to fit in the store. Waited in line a good hour the first time I went to the store to have the blinds cut only to get home and find out the blinds were cut fine, but the headers on both sets of blinds were not cut to the right width. Returned to the store a week later to get the blinds cut to the right size. I waited in line at least 20 minutes this time, even had the measurement written right on the back of the piece, and one of the two was cut incorrectly once again, an inch too short. Not bothering to go back again given the long wait times. I'll just deal with my header piece that's a 1/2 inch too short on either side which looks pretty crummy. Won't get back here unless it's to puchase something I definitely don't need help with. Will be going across the street to Home Depot in the future for sure. read more
