Town and Country Hardware switched suppliers in 2004, leaving Ace and replaced Ace with another company and in 2011, Town and Country Hardware closed permanently. I miss the old Town & Country Hardware Store, Town & Country Hardware 2as the original Salem Ace Hardware. Till August of 2017, they were no hardware stores in Salem. I have heard earlier this year, like in the Spring that the hardware store is coming back to Salem, WV. I found out that the store was going to be Ace, which made me more happy. Ace Hardware in Bridgeport, WV closed in the Summer of 2014. So for a short while, they were no Ace Hardware stores anywhere in Harrison County, WV. In 2016, Ace Hardware returned to Harrison County, WV, in Shinnston and made another return in 2017, in Salem. Now there is 2 Ace Hardware stores in Harrison County. I live in Salem and The Ace Hardware of Salem is a real helpful place and close to my home. Though the store address is ACTUALLY 210 Liberty St. Salem, WV 26426, NOT 298 Liberty St. Salem, WV 26426. Just remember, Ace is the place and Ace, the helpful place. True Value sucks and Ace is better. Just kidding, I have nothing against True Value Hardware, and they are a good store, I just like Ace Hardware name better. Update of February 2018: if you need your outdoor power equipment repaired, Ace Hardware of Salem is now doing small engine repairs. Update of January 2019: Ace Hardware of Salem is now your local STIHL dealer. If you plan to purchase a brand new STIHL handheld outdoor power equipment, Salem Ace Hardware has the full lime. For Stihl parts and accessories, Salem Ace Hardware has the complete line of parts and accessories for your Stihl outdoor power equipment. If you need maintenance and repairs for your Stihl outdoor power equipment, Ace Hardware of Salem has a small engine repair shop and will service any outdoor power equipment, including Stihl.

    Several weeks ago I took my lawn mower in for a new carb, oil change, etc., and a new deck belt,…read morewhich was noted on the slip. I was called in a couple of days by the female counter person and was told that the carb had been ordered but sent to the wrong place and it had to be reordered. Well, we all know that's code for 'I forgot to order it'. No worries, I have a back up machine. I had removed the deck in the interim in order to service it myself. In doing so, I discovered an idler pulley that was bad and called to order it. I spoke again with the female counter person who told me that I had to pay for it up front, which sounded odd, but I gave her my credit card information anyway. Today I was called and told that the mower was ready. I went to retrieve it, and had to remind the man at the counter that I had ordered a deck belt which I had yet to pay for, and an idler pulley which I had already paid for. He could find information on neither, had neither in stock, and when he checked said that they had ordered neither in years. I told him that I had ordered the pulley from the female counter person, whom he said was currently at lunch. He called her, but apparently she did not wish to be disturbed, because he hung up rapidly after saying that he would take care it. He looked through a few slips on the counter and said that there was no record of it being ordered or apparently of my having paid for it. I live 50 miles away, and I was livid. I paid the bill ($475.34) on a mower that I still couldn't use, and as I left he told me he'd look into the pulley situation. (He didn't mention the belt.) I told him not to bother, that I would buy what I needed at Parc's. Which I did. So, for another $126.12, I now have the parts I need to return my mower to operational status. Keep your pulley Sandy's, as well as any further 'service' to me or mine - your excuses are thin, and your service is poor. Keep what I paid as well as apparently you believe that you ( or someone ) needs the money more than do I. A couple of bucks is a cheap price indeed for me to now own what little integrity you may have at one time possessed.

    We travel two and a half hours back and forth between a home in Columbus and another near Marietta,…read moreOhio. My initial reaction to this store was delight at the variety of items they had available in a rural area. A woman near the front of the store asked us for what we were looking and sent us directly to the plumbing area for the pump fittings and hose we needed to replace our cistern setup over the weekend. As we perused the proper aisle, we were approached by a male employee, Lynn, asking if we needed help. I do not normally accept help from salespersons, as in most stores they have no more expertise than the customer. however, my boyfriend could not find the specific fitting size for which he was looking, so he accepted the help. When the gentleman approached the hose reels and we asked about the PSI rating on the 1 1/4 inch hose, he pointed to the signage for the one inch hose above it. I had initially looked at the wrong signage as well and pointed out to him that the price and PSI rating did not correspond with the hose about which we were asking. Lynn had strong opinions about brass versus nylon fittings and the clear reinforced hose versus the black, less expensive hose. We entertained his explanations and asked about electrical accessories and an outdoor outlet set up to more easily locate them. Instead of allowing us to examine the shelf tags and the purchase options, the salesman placed the store-brand items in our hands hastily. Irritated by his pushy attempts to upsell us, I left to use the restroom, and when I returned, Lynn had already cut three foot of the hose for which we had asked and had all of the suggested items waiting at the checkout counter for us. We explained that we could borrow the concrete drill bit he selected for us from a neighbor, that we could use the electrical connections from a previous pump, and that we would prefer an outlet box with a light to indicate if the well was receiving power. After driving nearly an hour home, when we returned to our task, we discovered that Lynn had cut the one inch hose that he had incorrectly referred to the first time I pointed this out, despite our receipt charging us for the one and a quarter inch hose price. We were unable to use the hose, and called your store to explain what happened, as they would be closed by the time we could return. Lynn argued that he cut the correct size hose for us, and the only solution he suggested was that we drive the hour to return to your store for replacement. Since I had a job interview first thing in the morning in Marysville, Ohio, it was imperative that we get our running water before dark so that I could shower. So we had to make another nearly hour-long trip into Marietta to obtain the (correct) supplies from Lowe's. This interaction has reinforced for me that I do not want the help of any sales person at a hardware store. I expect the staff to understand the shelf labeling system as well as pay immaculate attention to detail, especially in an area where customers might drive 30 minutes or more to pick up supplies. My boyfriend was quite upset with the waste of our time, our gas, and waiting until nearly 9 at night to eat dinner on a Sunday. I feel your staff needs to be less defensive, learn to say they are genuinely sorry, and listen more to help the customer, and not the store's bottom line.
