Dear Menards. My partner used to call you "Man Target" or "Target for guys". That title has been removed. Menards, you've been slowly breaking my wee little heart. I used to go in there and load up on SO MUCH! Originally, I could count on your guaranteed low prices, because you would offer a price match plus another 10% off, or something to that effect. Then you learned how attractive the 11% rebate looked, and didn't worry so much about those low prices. In a lot of scenarios, you are the same price or a penny less than some places. I adjusted. I got used to the rebates and got as many as I could. But then... but then... you started tinkering with your selections in your secondary areas. Sure, I can count on you for paint and a lot of the big things. It's the little things that are killing me. Pet products. Let's start there. I used to get everything there. Dog food. Dog treats. Cat food. Cat treats! You did a big overhaul of your dog food. It didn't impress me. You have many shelves of (today very empty) dog treats, most of them Milk Bone, a brand I avoid. Your alternatives didn't impress me. Fine. Cat treats! I found out you carry the single one my cat will eat... except... it was also out of stock. Womp womp. I can't even get the cookies I used to get because you no longer carry the flavors I bought. I've tried. Your selection of dog treats and chews is worse than it used to be. Your prices have gotten to the point where anything i can buy somewhere else just isn't that much cheaper there. And for some reason I insist on not only visiting for the little things, I have to continually give you bad reviews over it. Your best qualities are that you have plenty of folks around to help, although it doesn't seem like as many. When it comes to major house projects, I can count on you for supplies. The down side is in some areas I simply can't find them because some of your layouts are so weird. Dear Menards..... I will be back. When I need something for my house or my lawn, I will be back. If I need something for my car, I will be back. But for everything else... I'll be going somewhere else. I would use the (-) star review if one were available. Attempted three times to order a product that multiple employees told us was in the stockroom. Attempted to order it pick up online, the system said the order could not go through try again later. Ordered the item to be shipped same or next day for an additional $15, got a message from the store said they don't have the product. Can't buy something they are advertising. Please be aware before making purchases at Lowes! The Lowes Assistant Manager Shane in Bloomington, IN was continuously rude and dismissive not only to my husband but also to the employees around him and the General Manager Justin has refused to return our call, I wish I didn't have to give a star at all. Unfortunately, I did make the mistake of ordering the wrong refrigerator without the water dispenser. However, because we went in after 48 hours, we were unable to exchange the refrigerator, purchased on the 4th, delivered on the 5th, called on the 7th and employee said they could do the exchange with no problem, especially since we purchased the extended warranty, went in on the 8th to complete exchange. My husband explained that we were having someone come install the water line and that is when we got to looking at the unit and it only had the ice maker, and we would be paying more money and that it was still sitting in the same spot the drivers left it, the Assistant Manager would not speak to my husband but to the other employee until my husband asked if there was a reason why, then the Sean said he'd take a hit to resale it and can't do it, it didn't matter that someone had already told us they could and the warranty didn't mean anything. We then saw there was a 30-day exception to appliances that were in the original packaging, so my husband went back to discuss it further because all of the wrap was still on the refrigerator and Sean told him since we did not use a Lowes Credit Card and the drivers took it out of the box in their truck (we did not ask them to do that or were aware they would) and to take it up with corporate. Although Judy from Cooperate was pleasant to speak with she only directed us to the manufacturer, which I am assuming is why we were directed to Cooperate, What is completely disheartening of all of this, our home was hit by a tornado in May, we have had to rebuild so much (most not covered by insurance) and have gone through Lowes for almost all of it. This along with some special-order cabinets Micheal just got done designing for us in cabinetry was the last part we needed to complete our kitchen. Now we will not be pursing the cabinets, and we are stuck with this refrigerator because Lowes has the WORST customer service we have EVER experienced. read more

Besides accumulating Fitbit steps, Gayle and I have strolled down here to buy this and that (flashlight, snacks, etc.) and look around for house ideas. I had ordered a few boards and wood screws to be picked up at the store. I received an email and text that my order was ready. When I went to the pickup gage my barcode wasn't accepted. The lady attendant came over and tried. But she did say that my screws where ready but if I wanted the lumber I had to turn around and go inside. I said OK open the gate, she said she couldn't the front dest would have to do it, buy this time there was 5-8 vehicles behind me. Either open the gate or I'll just set there. I ended up turning around and got on the phone and canceled the whole order. I will never buy anything there from now on. Oh yes I don't like having to file for my own discounts. Hands down the worst customer service out of any hardware store. Went in to buy some lights and the signed read 9.99 after mail in rebate. The entire end cap was signed. When I got to the register they rang in 19.99. Was told there is nothing they could do. However that is better service than trying to pick up an order from the back!! read more

I ordered a tube of caulk on July 22. It was on back order. On September 5 I got notice it had finally come in and I could pick it up. I was not able to do that at a time of family emergency. My first try at Menards in Bloomington order pickup. It was a disaster. You would think by now Menards in Bloomington would have improved the system. I tried order pickup at the Menards in Avon. It was efficient and worked as expected. The Menards in Bloomington needs to get on board with the process. I like Menards! Which is weird to say because generally that is so not my thing. I'm not handy and take forever just to find a couple things here and there in this kind of store typically. Luckily the staff are super friendly and helpful for everything from guiding me to the right section to explaining differences between paints, snow salts, you name it. Prices are competitive and there's always some kind of rebate going on. This is a pro and a con because if you're unorganized like me you may find this a bit overwhelming, but you can always skip the bit of going to the desk with the rebates, mailing it in, etc. It's still a good deal so don't beat yourself up too bad. They have a great paint section, garden center, decent selection of dry and wet cat food, lots of holiday lighting options, multiple choices for snow salt, ... Basically everything you'd expect plus more (like good prices on ball jars!). I've gone to Lowes and Kleindorfers and they just don't compare with the experience I get here in terms of selection, service and speed. read more

They also pointed out a few cheaper options and offered good advice on how to do it more efficiently. We usually prefer Menards to Lowes, however don't go in close to closing time. We were in tonight, the kid in the paint dept gave my husband some stupid excuse for not opening the paint can to check the color, after pointing out the he knows he should open it. Apparently all their employees were busy doing closing duties because they had one check out open with about 6 people in line. Never been to a menards before. We hate Lowes and love Home Depot but didn't see one nearby. Had to get som ductwork. Asked a woman on a ladder if she could help with a duct question. Very cheery. 'No but I'll get you someone'. After 5 minutes of standing around, a gruff guy comes by. Shook his said no to any questions, or potential to help us find a solution. And didn't offer ideas or alternatives. While I'm talking to him, I hear a voice in his earpiece (it was turned up loud), he turns and starts talking on the radio as I continue speaking and he just walks away. I tell the woman on the ladder that we're from NJ and even we think that's rude. First and last time in a menards. Like Home Depot drove Rickels and Channel out of business here in NJ, they'll easily do the same to menards! read more

DON'T EVER buy gas powered equipment from MENARDS. Once you put gas & oil in it and you use it, they will not let you return it for refund. Even if it is defective. We bought a 20" Poulan Pro chainsaw the last week of August & it run approximately 3 hours. Now it is in the shop for the 2nd time. MENARDS refuses to honor their 30 day return policy. read more

Never are there any parking spots in the loading zone, all taken by those whose come out with hardly anything. We had to load large long boards and several gallons of paint carrying all out in the parking lot. After purchasing some of Menards low quality drywall I called the store to have them pick up the product for refund. The manager informed me that they would charge me another delivery fee for pickup fee to return their defective product. Wayne, the dept. mgr in lighting needs to be employee of the month! I had purchased a contemporary vanity light for my bathroom, and when we were installing it, one of the glass globes crashed onto the newly tiled floor, breaking into a zillion pieces. I got online and looked it up on Menard's website. You could order one for $9.99, but they didn't have the option to ship it to the store, so the shipping was going to cost an extra $15. On top of that there was SIX WEEK wait!!!! I called the store and got Wayne in the lighting department. He was so nice, and listened to my story, and then looked it up. He said that he had one that they were not putting back on display, so that I could have two of the globes NO CHARGE!!! I couldn't believe it, and it was on my birthday, so that was a GREAT present. Unless you're a masochist and derive perverse satisfaction from being treated like dirt, go to Menards instead of Lowes. The selection, prices and customer service here are much better compared with Lowes. Having just recently arrived in Bloomington, I've been frequenting home improvement stores a lot these days to get my apartment set up. Each of my visits to Menards has been good and without incident, except for my first time there, when a carpentry sales representative purposefully sent me to the wrong section (cabinets) when I asked for directions. When the cabinetry sales representative called him to ask why he sent me to the wrong section, he didn't seem to have an excuse. Fortunately, the cabinetry sales representative knew what she was doing and provided excellent help. In addition, aside from the carpet department, all the other sales representatives are friendly and provide good service. Even when I called their building materials department for questions, the person at the other end of the line was very polite and courteous. read more

i bought a little devil lawn mower at menards at this location and the blade came off a few weeks later. i had bought a warranty as well. i tried to take it back to menards for service but was told it wasn't covered and that they don't sell any repair parts. my $300 was just wasted because you can't find a replacement blade to match this brand. i have tried other service centers and they say they have never seen a blade like this. do not buy this brand from menards or anywhere else. i even spoke to the manager. read more
