Glad we got a membership here (although generally more expensive than I normally would pay for a gym membership) and I do recommend the family rate since it's the most cost effective. He is the laziest employee they have. He acts like he is going out of his way to answer a question. All he wants to do is click on membership cards and stand there. I also don't like they allow kids in there. Some are running around screaming on the track and could knock over someone that is in rehab from a stroke. Kids do not belong in there using the equipment and rarely are the parents around. Make a gym for kids if you want them in there, otherwise have them go to the Kid's Zone.

You are able to access the gym any time of the day even on a guest pass - just message/call the owner ahead of time to get access information. The gym itself has only a few cardio machines: treadmill, elliptical, erg, ski erg, stair master. What is truly the star of this gym are the machines. No two machines are exactly the same and each serve a specific purpose. I did a full leg day here and had 3 different leg presses and a hack/reverse hack squat machine to choose from. The cable equipment had every type of handle/grip that you could want nicely hung up on the wall. There are a good number of dumbbells and barbells to use as well. There's a very small turf area with a sled, boxes, bands, and kettle bells. If you only want to do cardio, this may not be the best fit, but if you do any type of weightlifting (powerlifting, bodybuilding, crossfit) this is the place for you! Formal Complaint Regarding Employee Conduct at Planet Fitness Charlottesville (Wegmans Area)…read more Dear Planet Fitness Customer Service, I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the conduct of a front desk employee, CJ, at the Planet Fitness located near Wegmans in Charlottesville, Virginia, on June 29, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM. During my visit, I was attempting to unfreeze my account. I asked CJ to please hold on for a moment while I pulled up my app to continue the process. Despite this, he repeatedly gave me information I was already aware of, and I again asked him to hold on while I prepared my request. At that point, he began displaying an attitude and became rude. When I asked him to please listen so he could assist me more effectively, he became visibly upset. He then told me to "calm down and relax," even though I had remained calm, cordial, and quiet the entire time. Throughout this interaction, CJ continued to demonstrate extremely disrespectful and condescending behavior. Further, CJ threatened to "evict" me from the gym, claiming he had that authority. This was simply because I was trying to complete my request and asked him to listen to my explanation before proceeding. I find this behavior unacceptable and believe it reflects very poorly on Planet Fitness. As a paying member, I expect respectful and professional customer service. I respectfully request that this matter be investigated and addressed appropriately, and that I receive a response outlining how Planet Fitness intends to handle this situation. Machines and free-weights are clean and in good repair and I haven't seen them super crowded. The locker rooms are large and well-kept. Every staff member we've interacted with has been friendly, up-beat, and helpful. The Downtown location advertises a rooftop pool. While it does exist (and is nice), it's very small - basically the width of one lap-lane. Almost like a large plunge pool. Downtown also has a parking garage with free access for members which is excellent. Some other reviewers have accused acac of being too expensive, but we were actually pretty satisfied with the price. Given the amenities and multiple locations, we feel that the membership fee is plenty reasonable. If I had to call something out for being a bit overpriced, it'd be the smoothies at the gym cafes - they're good, but after Virginia sales tax and C-ville meal tax, you're looking at 10-11 bucks a pop. At that price point, I'll be bringing my own shakes for post-workout!

I was disappointed to learn that ACAC as a multi-location workout facility doesn't have a membership tier that is inclusive for temporary/non-residents. it's either, you buy a one-time pass for $25; a three-day one; or a full monthly. nothing in between. Charlottesville itself is known for having a very transient, ever-changing population so this policy doesn't make sense to me. When I was there, some weirdo was on the stairclimber making this god-awful coughing noise about every 10 seconds. look, I know everyone has their workout quirks but spreading your germs around knowingly (in the age of airborne viruses like COVID) is a bad idea. I brought it to the attention of the desk attendant and she did not seem particularly phased by the news. ACAC Downtown is within walking distance of my flat/crashpad so I will go back. but I'm just hoping they either bring back the punch card or institute a program for non-residents to make life a bit easier.

I spoke with Bill, the owner, and he was very accommodating and helpful and said to come on over. Briana (sp?) at the front desk gave me a tour and showed me all of the amenities they have in their gym. It's not a huge space but it is very well organized and sparkling clean. My gym back home should see how this place is maintained. All of the equipment is in great shape, they have; free weights, several squat racks, dumbbells, a selection of machines, TRX setup (see picture) and some kettlebells for you hardcore masochists. They provide one-on-one personal training and from the interactions I saw with clients they have loyal followers. I would not hesitate to recommend this gym. They deserve 5 stars.

Over that time, aside from gaining about 20 pounds and loosing a lot of muscle tone, I developed some bad back problems as well as very sore knees both of which were actually staring to interfer with my ability to do things around the house and keeping me from enjoying playing with my grandkids. In all seriousness, the team there, especially Jana, helped me get back into the training routine guiding me along and making certain that I not do anything stupid to hurt myself. That was last August. Its now January and I have lost ten pounds, my back is strong, and my knees are getting stronger. This just proves that, with the right trainer, anyone can get fit. If I take a break and not show up for a week or two, they don't hassle me. I have definitely improved since I've been coming to this gym. Each time I'm able to run a little faster or lift a heavier weight. I love that I'm free to go at my own pace and do what works best for me and my body.
