I have shopped at Mel's for many years and spent a lot of money. Every few years I buy a new pair of Brighton sunglasses. This last pair had the arm fall off after 2 months of minimal use & they refused to exchange them. Won't be going back. read more

FABULOUS home decor and clothing boutique‼The staff is so responsive and eager to help. I basically lose my mind as I enter their front doors, so much incredible merchandise to absorb. I was excited to check out the additional space recently added and it did not disappoint. The new room allowed Mel's to expand their Christmas decor offerings - which was always a highpoint. Had outstanding customer service and really appreciated how Claire helped me find just the right special gift for friends. I can always count on Mel's for that unique, special gift! read more

I live just down the road from Mel's and seemed to never be walking by when they were open but decided to today as I was having an early dinner in the shopping center . They have some really cute stuff in there. I love the cards and loads of gift ideas. They also sell Free People clothing which I love. My only real complaint is the fact that the place is definitely not wheelchair friendly. I wasn't in one that day, but I sometimes am due to a disorder and there's no way I could manipulate my chair in the stores space. Even not being in a chair that day, I found it very claustrophobic and very packed with so much merchandise and tables/displays that it was hard to move through. It wasn't super shoppable due to this. I also felt staff wasn't very interested in helping me or greeting me. It's been that way the couple of times I have gone. read more

Just WOW. I live in Los Angeles but my Mom lives in Spokane & absolutely loves Mel's. I've actually never been, but the girls there have just gone way out of their way (on the evening of a holiday), to help me with a very unusual request. I had a special gift I wanted to send to my Mom & they were able to make it happen & deliver it...within a few hours. It was a total act of kindness. It meant SO much to my Mom (and it does to me). I usually don't like to say negative things about a locally owned shop but the Mel's at Wandermere is so scaled back compared to the larger store by the 'Y' that had a much larger building but I have a hard time finding anything to buy. There are too many soaps, lotions, candles and too many small departments to be able to carry a large selection. It would be better to have a couple departments that had a larger variety of items instead of the current selection of clothing, kitchen, baby , shoes, custom upholstery, jewelry, garden and all those soaps, candles, lotions, etc. Loved the old Mel's but disappointed in the new location. Sorry, but location is just too far north for me to want to shop. read more

Mel's has beautiful merchandise. That's the extent of the positives, though. The place is so packed with nice things that you bump into them while shopping or practically have to crawl over stuff to look at something. The price of things is generally a bit higher than the going rate too. I was willing to pay a few extra dollars for a baby gift in an effort to shop locally, but the employees are so unfriendly and the return policy is so difficult (14 days) that I don't think it's worth it. read more

I went in to ask about flowers for my wedding right after I got engaged and the flower lady was so rude and stand-offish that I walked out and went to Evergreen Florists where I had the opposite experience. Maybe Mel's should re-think who talks to the brides in the flower section!! read more

They have moved and their new location is very cluttered and hard to shop. Cute things but their old space was better. Prices are expensive.

Well - I raved about the quality and the deal we got at Mel's, the product of which we're still satisfied with. However - the service turns out to be not so great. Mel's is closing down (the owner apparently sold the property to the car dealership next door to pocket a few million..) and they've informed us that they will not be honoring the promise they made to sell us a slip cover for the couch we purchased at %40 off. This was one of the reasons we decided to get it in the first place - a would-be great incentive. So much for the customer experience. Way to aim for the middle, Mel's. read more

I visited Mel's the first time a few months ago at the recommendation of a few locals that said they have cute and elegant gifts. I recently visited again, and while I do agree that one might find cute and elegant gifts, like other reviewers, I found it so packed full of merchandise that I could barely maneuver the store. Pair the overcrowding of merchandise with the horribly unfriendly staff (the owner seems to be the least friendly of all) and the overly high pricing, and it just isn't worth shopping there. I intended to spend some time looking around and finally just left as the feeling of unwelcome is almost palpable. I'm certain that spending my money on non-essentials shouldn't be a stressful, unpleasant experience. How disappointing. Spokane could really use a cute gift store. read more

I visited the "new" north store for the first time the other day. I was never once greeted (was the first customer in the store) and never once asked if I needed any help. Two workers were engaged in an ongoing conversation, too busy to care for their customer. They had lots of nice, pricey things, and even if I had found something I wanted, I wouldn't have given them the business for the way I was treated. read more

I love Mel's! Great place for unique gifts or home decor you won't find anywhere else! Staff is always friendly and welcoming as well.

No nursery anymore. The gift shop has moved into smaller quarters as well, although with a great selection of housewares, soaps, etc.

I will spread the word about how unscrupulous you run your gift store. $100.00 spent on a gift card that was lost and NO CHANCE of replacing it although proof of purchase is supplied. Treating your customers this way is horrible! How much do you spend on advertising? I will get my $100 worth of advertising and then some telling everyone I know about your poor business practices and how little you care about customers and their loyalty. I am very upset and will never darken your doorstep again! Although the money will show up in your till you will still not give it back. Shoddy customer service!!! read more

As a transplant to Spokane from the Midwest, I was excited to find Mel's. It is one of the few places of it's kind in Spokane. If my review were based on merchandise alone, I would give it a four star rating. Unfortunately, the customer service in this store is so incredibly bad, that it doesn't matter to me how great their stuff is. No one, and I mean no one has ever smiled at me, asked if I needed help, said hello to me, etc. on any of my visits to Mel's. As a matter of fact, the only 2 times I have been spoken to by the staff of this store were unpleasant. Once, I dared to enter the store 15 minutes before closing (for some reason store hours are not posted on the front door), and I was vey rudely informed that I would need to shop quickly because they were closing. The other instance was a time I entered the Christmas area and was told to leave as it wasn't ready yet (the door to the area was open). Those are literally the only times I've been spoken to by the staff. I've been in the store at least ten times (not sure why I kept going back!). At first I thought it was just me, but after talking to some friends, I was informed that it's not me...this is what they are known for. it's a shame-for me because I like their merchandise and for them because they have lost potentially thousands of dollars of sales on me alone because of their snotty attitude. I have been frequenting this type of store (home decor, unique gifts) for years. I have never been in one were I felt as if my presence in the store was a nuisance for the sales staff. My strategy now is if i find something I like in the store, I come home, find it online and buy it.....usually for less money. I would suggest you do the same. read more

I don't know where to begin. First of all, like many other people I don't recall being greeted once (I went to this store twice, yesterday and today). They also didn't ask if we needed help or anything of the sort. The place is so packed, I nearly knocked down multiple items trying to avoid other ones, and mind you I'm not a clumsy person. Also, do not go here if you're not a big spender. The cheapest item I saw there was a $2 bead (one bead, like a bead that comes in plastic bracelet kits). This store is far more expensive than necessary. Also, do *not* pay with cash if you're not completely 100% sure of the item you're buying. They only refund if you pay with a card, and if you don't pay with a card they give you a gift card and force you to buy something else. The only thing there that warns you of this is a small sign on the counter that's slightly blocked by a "Build a Necklace" rack. Also, this place just sends of rude vibes. I felt like I was being judged the entire time I was there and I regret buying anything. The items are nice but aren't worth as much as they cost, and the staff are very rude. I did not appreciate being looked at as if I was less than them. I will never shop there again, even if my life depends on it. I do not recommend. read more
