Left side when facing Trevi Fountain. Get banana!

Excellent reasonably priced gelato next to Trevi Fountain with waffle cookie atop my 2 scoops: amazing banana and decadent chocolate. Yes, it is better in Italy! Just wish the scoops were bigger. Yes, more please! There are about 5 gelato shops surrounding the Trevi, and Melograno is on the left side when facing the fountain.

The gelato is rather icy, and for the price, I'm sure you can find better. It's a nice place to stop by, as the location is right next to the Trevi Fountain, and the inside has AC. There's also a pizza place inside if you're feeling like something savory. Overall, it was okay, but I wouldn't come back. There's so many other gelato places nearby.

If you are looking at the Trevi Fountain, look to your left and you'll see Melograno. We were with a walking tour so we didn't want to stray away too far before having to meet up with everyone again. Our local guide pointed Melograno's out to us as one of our options. Upon stepping inside, it wasn't too crowded and they had so many different kinds of toppings on their pizzas! Different kinds of meats, and veggies! One pizza even had thinly sliced eggplant all over it. All local flavors, so you're not going to find any Hawaiian pizzas with pineapple on them. They are not heavy handed on the pizza sauce here and mostly let the toppings do all the talking. The crust was a medium thickness. Side Note: they also sell gelato here which we tried and then we went next door to the Gelato place on the corner and liked theirs much better. We had Gelato 3 times that afternoon by the way at 3 different places LOL....

Melograno is our go to spot for gelato. Like really we loved it so much that we went out of our way to grab our treats from this gelataria. Our faves are Hazelnut, Pistachio and especially Tartufo. Located at the Trevi Fountain you must delight your taste buds with some gelato from Melograno while in Rome, Italy.

Buona pizza con prezzi economici e un bel posto vicino della Fontana di Trevi! E per i turistici: i bagni puliti e gratuiti (molto molto importante quando si vede una fontana...). Surprisingly affordable slices smack dab and a coin toss across the Trevi Fountain. I bought a 2.50€ margherita slice that was wholly satisfying and delicious. Even better, they have free, clean restrooms upstairs. Grab a slice and save enough to toss into the fountain, so you can ensure your return to Rome and do it all again, thus fulfilling the infinite send-return loop that I'm sure Stephen Hawking wrote about in one of his crazy space books.

Great pizza by the kilo. I had a tomato/black olive/zucchini slice and a mozzarella/black olive/tomato slice. Fast service and lots of indoor seating!

When you only have a few minutes to have lunch on your own before having to rejoin your tour group, you find the nearest eatery and get moving. This place is right next to the trevi fountain and gets a LOT of tourist traffic. The pizza was underwhelming but again we didn't have much time to search. The gelato however, (like almost all Italian places we visited), was wonderful. The best was a combo of strawberry & banana. Other tastes included: melon and cherry. FOUR stars for the gelato. I'd skip the pizza if you have time to search for something else. It wasn't bad, but nothing spectacular.

Overlooks Trevi Fountain so convenient to grab a treat and stare at the fountain (can't help it, it's beautiful). Variety of different flavors and all were good. Very creamy and flavorful. Staff was nice and prices weren't insane. Will probably be one of my night spots for my time in Rome (mostly because of the fountain.. but really, it's good, no complaints).

Close to the Trevi fountain. Has a large selection of pizza, but nothing to write home about. Please note we did NOT have the gelato - however it seems like every tour brings their group here so it's like a circus.

Gluten free gelato with GF cone! Brilliant!

Not bad at all. The pizza is fairly priced and it's tasty. Good find for a place right by the Trevi Fountain. Give it a shot.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

That means almost 50 years of driving thousands of people insane with pleasure from utterly amazing ice cream. That is a good way to spend 50 years. * * * Most Italian Gelato places are very consistent. If one flavor is good, they all are good. If one flavor is fake or artificial, they all are fake and artificial. That said - despite La Romana's full range, The establishment is known for one distinctive flavor that is very much their signature. Crema dal 1947. Crema dal 1947 is absolutely and utterly insane. It is an eggnog custard gelato subtly flavored with lemon zest. It is the most creamy dreamy lemon cloud dessert every made by any human being. Just to get an appropriate placement within the lemon family, I paired it with a plain lemon gelato. Rome has absolutely amazing lemons. Plain lemon gelato almost anywhere is die-and-go-to-heaven good. Putting eggnog custard creamy dream Crema dal 1947 With bracing in-your-face screaming lemon-lemon-lemon traditional gelato Was like pairing Margot Robbie as Barbie with Amy Winehouse singing her soul out. But I stopped in my tracks because I saw a line wrapped up 50+ people deep, all waiting just to get inside and order. Now it's day two in Rome and I still hadn't had any gelato, even though I've walked past what feels like a hundred shops. So what would a fat man from Alabama do? Turn right back around, of course--because nothing says "this is probably good" like a crowd stacked up like cordwood waiting for ice cream. I finally make it up to the counter and the young guy looks at me and says in English, "What do you want?" Well... I can't pronounce half of what I'm looking at, so I just show him a picture of his own menu I had snapped a minute earlier. He smiles, reads it out loud, and then asks, "What size?" At that point my brain is a mess, so I mumble "medium" and point at the cup sitting by the register. One problem down. Then I move into the next line--about a dozen people ahead of me--and when it's finally my turn again, I just point at my receipt like, "It's on there somewhere, I think." I can't read Italian, so I'm fully operating on faith at this point. The guy looks up and says, louder this time: "What flavor?" Flavor? That was not the question I was prepared for. So I point back at the picture again and say, "Whatever that is... I want that one." He scoops it up, loads it into the cup, and sends me on my way. Now comes the real test--taste it--but there are people everywhere, so I grab a quick photo first, because priorities. First bite? Hallelujah. That was the moment. That gelato hit and I just kept walking down the sidewalk like a man who somehow figured out how to survive ordering ice cream in Italy. Seriously, it was excellent. And if I get turned around again like today, I already know where I'm going back.
