I had left a review several years ago, where I described coming into this specific location and the waiter sneezing directly on the pizza. He was still approaching the table, and being well over five years ago, I can't pretend to recall his name. Regardless, I was served the pizza and, at the time, I honestly thought the people I was with were making more of it than it needed to be. Did it happen? Yes.
Did I see it? Yes.
Did I literally witness this sneeze? Absolutely.
What I did not know is, I have several autoimmune diseases. I got sick after, which those with me kept attributing to the sneeze. While I am a germaphobe, I felt this was insane. I was SERIOUSLY sick! I didn't have a mere cold, I appeared to have an insane flu, while my friends seemed, if anything, to have a cold. I assumed it was allergies. I assumed it was seasonal pollen. I never assumed it was the pizza--but, while leaving a review, I mentioned it. My friends refused to EVER return to this location, which sucks, because it's super close to me.
I like Mellow Mushroom, so, I went to other locations. Time went on. I still liked them, even if I hadn't been in a while.
Then, a few weeks ago, my review was removed because I had an attachment or connection to a location nearby me. I'm not new to Yelp, and I'd only been able to recall one time I reviewed Mellow Mushroom--this location--and how if I went to the page, I should see my review at the top and be offered to UPDATE my review.
There is nothing to update. My review, and all its honesty, is gone, and it's gone because someone who IS connected to Mellow Mushroom, lied, and claimed I have a personal connection.
So, Yelp, Mellow Mushroom, let's set the record straight; I have never worked for either Yelp or Mellow Mushroom. No one I know or am related to has. No one I know or am related to owns part of your company--OR your competition's company. I ate at Mellow Mushroom--very often--at all locations EXCEPT this one, until fairly recently.
When I saw the email saying my review was removed and why, I thought it was a joke. Or a mistake. Nope; It's gone because someone who does work for Mellow Mushroom decided to lie to make their reviews better.
Some of us care about the truth, the facts, and value it so deeply that doing this is enough to make sure I go out my way to set the record straight; Is the pizza good? Yes.
Is it amazing? Is it worth supporting a company willing to lie to Yelp for the sake appearances to tolerate because it's pizza so good, you don't care?
No. This is pizza. Better than Little Caesar's, costing off unique atmosphere, but still, pizza. Yes, they use "spring water" in their dough, and yes, they love to mention it, but "spring water" isn't some protected term in advertising and marketing. It's just a turn of phrase that can be applied almost anywhere, like, lava? All lava is spring lava! It spouts forth from the untouched earth!
Keep in mind when you go camping, you have to boil water to make sure it's safe to consume.
Keep in mind how so many bottled water companies claim their water is "spring water" but scientists tested it against tap and. . .it's identical. In fact, tap is better; We at least cleaned that. Spring water SOUNDS pretty, healthy, and better, but that isn't the reality.
Next time Mellow Mushroom wants to improve it's reviews, it may consider contacting people via Yelp and asking them to allow to them to prove themselves again, rather than calling old reviews they dislike to be lies or unfair based on lies they made up, especially as the person they do that to may be an incredibly dedicated SEO/AEO front end web developer who specializes in marketing and advertising.
Don't worry if you get this removed; I saved this before I wrote this review, but I'll make sure to save a copy of this one--wouldn't want you to mix me up with someone and mistakenly have my review removed twice!
Also, again, average pizza. The long wait times aren't worth it, nor is the extra cost for less common ingredients.
Plus, a worse pizza place won't throw you under the bus for calling out what an employee, and not the company, did wrong; Turns out Mellow Mushroom is in a pinch, because that review was ANCIENT. read more
