One of the things we were not finding very easily during our recent trip to Gulf Shores was a place with a good local beer selection. On our way to Alligator Alley, we saw the billboard for Mellow Mushroom advertising a large local beer selection. We had to give it a try. My husband ordered a four beer sample paddle, which allowed him to try some different things. (I love when places have this option!) For pizza, we ordered "Hey, Dude!" (which was a buffalo chicken type of pizza) and the Jerk Chicken. We loved the first one the best. The pizza has a nice, light crust. Great texture and taste! We also ordered the garlic bread, which was seasoned well. Service was great. read more

The building is less fancy and the menu is a little different than back home. Even though it seemed run down inside, the service and food was as good as any other Mellow Mushroom I've been in. I got the sausagefest calzone and it was huge. I had to take half with me in a to-go box. Plus thanks to Yelp, I got free pretzel bites with cheese dip for checking in. Everything was so good!! We got the pineapple pizza with jalapeño forgot the name of it. Also got the house salad and spinach dip. Jaden was our waitress and she must has filled up my water 4 times(sorry) She also told us about the free pretzel bites when you check in. I would say that the area is a little weak on good pizza shops but mellow mushrooms was very good. Our pizza was light and fluffy baked to perfection. We did share a large Caesar salad which was also very good. Definitely a good spot to stop for pizza. read more

The food is always great. But what's even better is the service. It was a crazy busy Saturday night and you would never guess because the customer service never wavered. Would like to give a special shout-out to the hostess with the mostest Madelyn. I've legitimately never met a sweeter employee than her. I've had this restaurant on my "need-to-try" list for a while. Today I stopped by for lunch & had a great meal. The prices were great in my opinion & the menu had a ton of options- it was hard to decide what to get! We ultimately got cheese bread and the buffalo chicken pizza. Always loved this place. This location seems to be one of the only locations of Mellow Mushroom that I know of left. The 3 that were in Louisiana are all shut down now. I don't know why because this is some of the best pizza I've ever had. Great selection of craft beers and always a very friendly staff. read more

Food? Good Service? Horrible Wait times for food? Horrible Living in a resort town/tourist trap sucks. Why? Because restaurants DO NOT GIVE A FLYING FLIP about the customer or good service They assume everyone is here on vacation and therefore do not have to provide speedy and good service So as a local, I hate to go out and eat. Was in the area for a wedding and was looking for a place to eat which didn't close at 8pm! OMG, who closes at 8pm on a Sat. Stumbled upon this place which we nicknamed Magic Mushroom and loved it. The pizza was excellent and they had a nice selection of craft beer. For our servers name, but she was a hoot! She had been working all day and still had a great attitude at close to 10pm. read more

The list of problems we encountered: 1. Paper baked into our calzone 2. Food took close to an hour for kids order to come out. 3. Adults food order messed up, one hour and 15 minutes to come out. They forgot to make one whole calzone 4. Calzones were burnt and bland otherwise. Positives: 1. Waitress was honest about the order problem. That saved her tip 2. Manager refunded the money for the calzones, but only after I showed him the paper baked in it (no apologies from management about the order mix-up or the LONG wait for food). Arrived at 9 and after a couple minutes was greeted and seated, then another 15 minutes we still had not been greeted for a drink order. It's a shame because I was looking forward to a 25$ pizza. I guess at 9 they clean up to close at 10. So Krystal Burgers it is. They did reach out to me, easy to do on social media, not much help when you and your family are on vacation and looking for a bite to eat. Meh. The crust and the sauce can't stand on their own and are only so-so. The sauce needs more zing; maybe add some crushed dry red pepper to the recipe? The Italian sausage was good. I've been a Mellow Mushroom lover since I first discovered it in Raleigh back in my NC State grad school days (2003-ish). I love this MM in particular because they have a great selection of draft and craft beer, which is rare around here. Their pizza is awesome, but I'm also a huge fan of the hoagies, salads, and wings! read more

The likelihood of an Italian girl from NJ going to a pizza place and not ordering pizza is pretty slim but there you have it. Some interesting veggie options piqued my interest and I ended up ordering a tempeh hoagie which was very good (it's been ages since I have had tempeh) I appreciated that I could order a half hoagie which was very sufficient. My only complaint is the menu stated something like "served with your choice of (insert about 4-5 different choices of chips) for $1.19" Huh? When I asked our server, she clarified that it was indeed an option for an additional cost. I have no problem with the option part but the wording is definitely confusing and misleading. Then I was offered a different option (also for an additional charge) of roasted potatoes. This was not even listed as an option. These were good but would have been better if crispy. The other confusing thing about MM is that they have a full bar (with apparently a good selection of draft beer) but the menu only listed available non-alcoholic beverages so how do we know what is available? Bottom line: food was good but there is room for improvement on the menu wording/presentation. read more

My daughter fell off her bike and had to have surgery to reset her arm at South Baldwin Hospital. This during the thick of the whole COVID-19 thing, hence this review. I waited for the call at the Mellow Mushroom to pick her up. As I was there, the staff was awesome, the pie was great! Did I mention the staff? Flat out some of the best people in the world. I love the Mellow Mushroom. I HATE their prices. Their pizza is really good and they have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. They put butter and parmesan on their crust, so make sure you ask for it without if you are vegan. They do have a Daiya cheese option for you, but it costs and extra $6! For a pizza total that already comes to $30 that's just too much for me. They have some different flavoured tofu options that you can add, like buffalo tofu and jerk tofu. I tried the jerk tofu this time I enjoyed it. Despite the crazy prices of their pies, I usually eat at Mellow Mushroom when I'm near one. It just tastes so good. read more

This was my first visit to a Mellow Mushroom. We chose the Funky Chicken and ordered my 6 yr old a personal pepperoni both of which were great. His pizza arrived first and when you have a starving 6 yr old that was excellent service. My only complaint was the server. He was friendly but he had issues with forgetting to order our appetizer and bringing the wrong beer. If we are in the area again we might give it another try. read more

The pizza is very tasty, but if you are a big fan of toppings, I would go elsewhere. My pizza boasted five different toppings and their pictures show their pizzas loaded down with toppings. When I got it I discovered there were very few pieces of each topping. At a price of $26ish for a medium pizza I would have expected more to go on it. read more

The market part of this place does offer a lot of great looking stuff and they certainly have some beautiful meat on display if you want to cook your own steak which I certainly do but I don't have a grill available to me when I'm visiting Lower Alabama. Overall I found this to be a really great spot and it is certainly worthy of a visit for multiple things whether you want to dine on prepared food or purchase things to cook for yourself.

I was on the hunt for a decent pack of sardines. We just came from Baton Rouge and we are using to having Whole Foods etc. it is a small store but they do have some good products. My daughter and husband got the fruit shaped ice cream. I did find some sardines / not the brands I was hoping for but definitely better than what's around. I was going to get a bottle of wine. However I did notice a wine I normally get is 14/15 dollars and they market it up to 26.77 there- and it's the same bottle. In my mind that's too big of a market up. I ended up going to isla wine instead which is a boutique wine store and their mark up is only 1-2$ more than the general price. This store also has caviar which I'd love to buy but now I do feel like I have to make sure I'm not getting ripped off.

At Subway you can watch them make your sandwich to ensure it is made correct while at Firehouse you can't see them and they take longer. And, just to hit the nail on the head - Wendy, their T-S daytime bartender, is always on top of her game. She knows the menu, tap selections and all of her regulars front to back and top to bottom. Seems the sign hanging on the door would flop and twist when someone came in or out. So that was why it showed closed. She took it down after we mentioned that to her. Also, she said they needed to update their ours for Yelp/Google since this was the slow season and they closed early, so the Yelp said they were opened another hour when they probably should've been closing up.
