Ok... Look y'all. I've been reading some comments about the…read moredive nature of this here establishment... And I've gotta say... those commentators and I need to hang out, let me drive you around town... I think I could show you a place or two that might help you have a better view on the "divey" lens of things... because y'all, Nola's got em. And this ain't one. But what Basin is... Is a rather wonderfully appointed small neighborhood bar. Think more suburban man-cave. Divey... Nope. Hell, every single barstool had all it's legs, none of them wobbled, and all were standing right-side up. There were multiple TVs. All seemed to be connected to cable or satellite... All of them were in new fangled color-vision... And not a single bullet hole to speak of. I would even watch the falcons here. For God's sake, there's a museum of worldly artifacts in the billiards room (can't even call it a pool room, it's too nice)... And this doesn't even cover the gorgeous patio in the back... And if that doesn't convince you... Hell, the toilets had no noticeable urine or graffiti, and were well stocked with premium tissues and great smelling soap.. And, I know you won't believe this... And this is not exaggeration, the bathrooms smelled like they were scented with fresh laundry. I know this might be one heck of a turnoff for a lot of you... Cause if you're looking for a dive bar, keep driving towards the dome. But if your looking for an awesome little place to grab a delicious cold beer at an amazing price with a super friendly staff... That's what Basin is.

I've driven past this little dive bar hundreds of times. The outside is lit up by a giant…read morefluorescent sign. The Lamplighter. In Metairie, on lower Veterans, near the new Starbucks (or rather, recently moved), and right next to BK (actually, the parking lot is shared). And though I've never been much of a drinker, I was curious enough to look for reviews. I found the business on Yelp, but there were no words about it. I looked around a little more and found two lone reviews. The first one talked about how good one of the bartenders made burgers. The other one is the one that got me in the door. It said something like "cheap drinks, weird people....open late (never closes)". Its the weird people that did it for me. I, apparently am one of them. My first time there, I didn't even make it in the door before, someone said "I've never seen you before....what's your name?" or some such similar attention grabbing statement. I had to excuse myself just to get a drink. As was mentioned before, I'm not a big drinker, so the two drinks I have will be nicer. I'm not a Bud guy, or Miller, or PBR. I think those taste like crap. So I walked in and got an Abita Purple Haze for $3. All of the bottles are $3. Sam Adams, Newcastle, Red Stripe, the Abita crew, you name it. Everyone there is nice and welcoming. It's like a little vagabondish family. There are regulars, there all the time, and there are frequenters, a couple times a week. It's totally cool, they've got a video jukebox, so the music selection is excellent, compared to a CD jukebox. There are dart boards, but I've never seen people playing. I hear they're going to bring the pool table back inside eventually. So, it is with much reluctance that I put the word out about the Lamplighter bar and lounge. I almost don't want people to go and ruin it's quaint affection. It's like the dive version of Cheers. With weird people. I honestly didn't think I would find that in Metairie. If you're weird (excessively intelligent and creative) and seek the same, but do not want the hassle of driving (the 6 miles) to the French Quarter, stop on by. More younger drinking at night, much older during the mornings, not sure about the afternoons yet. But you get the picture.

I went for brunch and I must say the food & drinks were good. The pancakes are massive! Its 2 of them that take up the whole plate. My lady got the crab & bacon omelette, if yall been ready my reviews yall know i only eat egg whites so I didn't try it. But oh boy it smelled good! Yes, you can substitute it for egg whites. The frozen drink was basically strawberry puree not much alcohol in it. You see that blueberry lemonade drop was amazing! The kid had the French toast with a side of bacon. Let's just say she cleaned the plate. The kid rated the restaurant 10/10. Now the restroom, is a kinda tight when you enter the stall. I do mean tight. Definitely would be returning. I'll to look at the receipt to get our waitress name but she was amazing! Oh & they have outside seating area.

She actually told my friend that she didn't like being "summoned" because we waved to her to let her know we needed something. I won't tolerate a rude server so I asked to speak to the manager and Chuck immediately came out and listened to me and said he would send over a new server right away. I appreciate that he was a wonderful listener and expressed his concern. Our new server was the bartender Monique and she was A+ and even an alumni of our high school. As always the bottomless mimosas that are available on Saturday are strong and flowing. The frozen Poloma was also amazing. All of the food was hot and delicious. The restaurant is always bright and cheery. I do recommend Sala!
