We get there about 5 and was told the owner (?) sent the seamstress home early because "she's 81 and needs sleep" so okay... fine. We go back on Saturday when he said she would be there, which she was. My husband puts the jacket on and I put on the dress. The seamstress looks at my husband's jacket and refuses to work on it because it was a bit big and she said there was nothing she could do. The owner (?) who was there then proceeded to make my husband try on jackets that were too small and when my husband said they were too small and did not fit properly, the owner said "well I know. I just wanted you to see what this looked like "... but why?? The seamstress moves onto me and looks me up and down then asks what I want. I needed some padding taken out of the chest, a shorter hem as it was about 6inches too long even with my heels on, and a little more cut on the slit of the dress. Nothing crazy. She literally refused every. single. thing. She told me that I should not have bought the dress offline (like I had a choice, that's where the bride picked for us to get our dresses), refused to take the padding out of the dress, despite the padding not being in the correct place and making me look like I had 4 boobs, said that the dress is "supposed to be flowy and is so beautiful at the bottom so I shouldn't get it hemmed" (even though it was obviously ridiculously too long and I would trip trying to walk in it), and just flat out told me no to having more of a slit cut. She told me I should have ordered a bigger dress and then the pads would fit, but the dress itself fits me perfectly and I dont need anything taken in at all, but insisted I needed bigger. Then said "you buy a bigger dress then come in here and I'll help you" YEA RIGHT like I would ever ever ever ever give them my time and money. I don't know how they are still open. I would never recommend anyone to go here for anything.

They were one of the very first high end lifestyle stores ever. They saw a niche and filled it. Nowadays, the formula has been copied nearly every where you go. Hayseed was the trail blazer. To reviewer Re mask - gee if that is true and you feel uncomfortable, then leave. No one is forcing you to shop anywhere. This shop is chock full of wonderful objects, trinkets, jewelry, cards, luscious books and unique finds. The coffee table book selection is truly exquisite. Hayseed has been part of my life since my boarding school days and I am grateful they are still going strong. It's nice to have continuity and familiarity as one passes through time. It is very strange how several reviewers commented on the "elderly owner". While she very well may be a woman of a certain age, I highly suspect all of you would desire to embody such style, panache and grace as you proceed onwards in years. Those of you who age shamed her should look within to see what buttons are being pushed over what is lacking within you. Hayseed is a wonderful little shop in a wonderful little town. I honestly had no idea just how extensive of a selection this store had and we were so pleasantly surprised. We came into the store about 45 minutes to closing on a Saturday and to say it was busy is an understatement! The store manager Adam saw us and let us know that he'd be with us in 5 minutes and he was so super busy that he apologized for having to "keep us waiting". We are not those people who huff and sigh over not being fawned over immediately- we told him to not stress and to take his time finishing up with the other customers. We recognized how busy they were and just used our time to explore tuxedo options. When Adam finally did return to us, we already had picked out what tuxedo and shoes we wanted and all he had to do was color match the tie, pocket square, measure and we were good to go! I am giving a major shout out to Adam- I had a special situational request that he took care of without hesitation and he was so awesome to work with. I look forward to bringing my son in shortly to get his tux for prom and we hope to work with Adam again! I am also going to note that this place has incredible suits and men's apparel and everything can be altered. My husband buys all his suits and dress shirts and ties from Brooks Brothers and I told him to not sleep on GT Ghamo- he agreed to go and get his next suit here and I cannot wait to see what he gets! And where those hard-to-find items continue to elude us, we did see a ton of very nice things for sale. Some of the things were belts, purses, handbags, men's & women's clothing, shoes, boots, sandals, some high end sneakers, kitchen and household goods, small furniture, luggage, and plenty more. So, if you enjoy thrifting, you'll sure enjoy a visit here. PRO TIPS 1) The Yelp listing had an incorrect address. I put in an update today, and the proper address (still in Newington) is 27 Garfield Street. 2) If you're interested in consigning clothes here, Karma's Closet offers a 50/50 split on all consignment items.
