Ashley Gardens became his home thanks to the amazing caregivers who loved him and treated him like family. No memory care facility is perfect, but Ashley Gardens was perfect for him. The caregivers at Ashley Gardens truly know how to love and provide care in a respectful way allowing their residents to maintain their dignity. At Ashley Gardens, our dad and our family developed a meaningful relationship with all of the employees. During our time visiting dad, we witnessed employees treat every resident with the same care that they showed our dad. The end of my dad's life was traumatic for us, but the staff at Ashley Gardens supported our dad and us every step of the way. Here are a few reasons why Ashley Gardens was the best place for our dad: Caring staff-from the welcome at the door to the kitchen staff to the caregivers-he was loved throughout this day. ***Staff was fully present and not glued to their cell phones like in other facilities Activities: Ashley Gardens provides a nice balance of activities for all residents. From volleyball to sing alongs to crafts, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Balanced meals that he enjoyed in a dining room with silverware, real plates and a "no beer" if he desired. He sat at an assigned table ensuring he always had friends to dine with. (In a previous facility, he often ate alone and he was lucky to get a plastic fork) Fox Rehab staff who were present almost daily and worked hard to take care of dad's physical, speech and occupational needs. The facility-the facility is open and goes in a big circle. Dad was able to walk laps and stop and say hello to friends along the way. The facility is fully staffed 24 hours/day and we were always comforted knowing that he had support whenever he needed it.

I love that this facility is one story, has large rooms and bathrooms, has a lot of outdoor space…read moreand is easy to navigate around. Many of the front line staff are very nice and truly care about the residents. That's the good stuff. Sadly, there's a revolving door especially among leadership positions. They lack weekend staffing esp at a management level. Issues go unresolved, communication is poor and issues aren't communicated in timely way. EVERYTHING went downhill once there was a change in ownership in September 2024. Food quality, options and portions, which had all been excellent, went downhill immediately. "Corporate" is terrible and as Ellen reported above, they are very hard to track down and will do everything they can to avoid fixing an issue once you do track them down. They overcharged my parents $24,000 over the course of 1 year. I had to birddog the bill monthly, was told monthly by front line staff that they know the bill is wrong but waiting on corporate to fix it, I ultimately stopped using autopay due to incorrect charges, etc. I pursued this for 1 year, making them aware of the overcharges monthly before ultimately moving my parents elsewhere. I was finally refunded the $24,000 3 months after my parents moved out but only after I essentially made it my full time job and my life's passion to not let them get away with the blatant dishonesty and thievery. The utter hypocrisy of a company being in the senior care business while blatantly stealing from their residents is disgusting and unforgivable. I will tell everyone I know to steer clear of this facility as long as Sonida Senior Living owns it.

There is supposed to be a manager on duty at all times, but on weekends the " manager" was often the chef (!) not visible in the facility, of course. Other "managers" were supposed to be there....where were they? I was looking for them, office was locked and closed. They had recommended that my husband be in assisted living, only later did I realize that is because they had an empty room to fill - he needed memory care, and he did not get the supervision or care he really needed. The administration over charged me twice, and when I complained they "explained" that invoices come from Corporate and they could not correct them (!!) When I asked for the number for Corporate I was told that he could not give it out! In fact, if you look on line, while there is a phone number listed for corporate, you get a recording and you never get a call back. When I removed my husband from that facility, the only contact the administration had is to try to convince me that I should move him to their memory care. Then two months after moving him, they sent me an incorrect bill in another man's name, overcharging again and threatening legal action. The care is sub-par, particularly the administration, and while there are staff that are caring and helpful, it is hard to make up for lack of competent leadership at the top.

Also, there is an onsite salon with a talented stylist, Dewayne, who was incredible-he made my mom's hair look amazing. Indigo Hall connected us with a medical group that came onsite so we didn't have to run to doctor's appointments. The staff was epic-very energetic-sweet-and hard working, checking in frequently and encouraging group participation, and the front desk/Tina et al handled so many questions/situations professionally. My mom was there for a little over 3 years until she passed. We feel so lucky to have chosen such a caring and professional place I can't recommend it strongly enough.

The food was excellent. The dining room and common areas were spacious and beautiful. The activities programs were well-thought out to encourage participation at all levels of ability. However, management oversight was lacking. Throughout her stay, I was the one who discovered several medication prescription errors that negatively impacted her quality of life. They did respond quickly when I found these issues. Billing was also an issue. I found that her room charge rate increased even though the contract stated it would not. It took a couple months for the overcharge to be reimbursed. It also took 5 months to receive the reimbursement for her final prepaid monthly apartment fee. I see that they have a new director since my mom passed, so perhaps this has improved.

With my experience there, with my father, there is often one lone person on the floor, Looking after 60 to 70 people. The same person often works two shifts in a row because they are always extremely short staffed. You often see the help asleep because they are working them to death With very few breaks, and a huge workload. If you ever need to call there for any reason, you may never get an answer. If you call the floor that your loved one is on, you will never get an answer because they are too busy. There's a different person at the front desk quite often because they do not pay enough and cannot keep help. The bathrooms that the public use often have excrement on the wall, and obviously have not been cleaned in forever. The carpet smells old and the food in the dining room smells bad and not inviting. This is a beautiful large facility that could be done so much better if the owners were not so greedy. We have had to hire a private care staff to make sure he is able to be put on the toilet and doesn't have to wait three hours. This is nothing but greed on the part of the owners. The owners, by the way, stay hidden behind layers of people in front of them so you could never find out who they are. And none of the layers of people ever answer the phone. If it would not be so hard on my father, I would move him. Do not choose this place.
