When I visited her thru a window, her clothes were covered in bleach spots. When she went to the hospital, the nurses were shocked at her severe yeast infection and took note of where she was living. The managers have zero people skills. This place is only adequate for independent living and must be where they get the "white glove" treatment.

I asked for help to locate her room and the staff was so friendly and helpful. It was wonderful to see how well taken care of the residents were. I noticed great effort was given to provide an atmosphere where the residents felt included in social events and activities. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility and how well it was maintained. I was given a tour of the property and the grounds were very well kept. I saw leisurely activities the residents could take part in, as well as spaces for family members to come and celebrate with them. Afterwards, I ate at one of their cafe's and really enjoyed the lunch. Everywhere I went, the staff was so friendly. It had the feel of being home. If I had to refer someone to a nursing/residential facility, this would be the place.

There were specific individuals who offered exceptional dedication and outstanding professional performance, as well as compassion, understanding, and caring. While we had waited for our desired two bedroom/two bathroom apartment for 13 months, we are so happy to be settled in such a friendly community with the excellent leadership of Mr Sean Davis ( accessible on a daily basis) and a skilled and personable staff who provide comfort to all the residents here. Our move was planned with the support of highly competent administrative staff Alexa and Emily while we were living in Edinburgh, Scotland. Nothing that we requested of them was ever any problem as we attempted the required paperwork from Edinburgh! With the 5 hour time difference even scheduling a cell call discussion was easy and productive with their total access and cooperation. That set the stage for an easy move into our lovely apartment where a beautiful and tasty basket of goodies including fruit, cheese, and candies as well as red wine with South Bay wine glasses awaited our arrival! Emily had made an attractive and amusing artsy door sign to welcome us and to inform our neighbors of our arrival. We were finally no longer "homeless" with furniture in storage! South Bay has exceeded our expectations even though we had completed our due diligence earlier in 2025 knowing it was the best place for us at this stage of our lives. Everything is so well maintained. It's truly resort living with all the activities available. We cannot praise the dining experiences enough! Chef Pam and Patrick insist on delicious meals with variety perfectly served by lovely and highly skilled staff like Amir, Nandi, Lucky, Taliyah, and Ryan. Arlene forgot to tell you in her review of South Bay that when she had damage to her apartment, South Bay put her up in a nearby hotel until the damage was repaired and she could move back into her apartment. Retirement living is at it's best in South Bay. So many activities, good dining, and interesting programs to stimulate the mind. Of all the moves during my 80+ years, moving to South Bay is the best!

They had provided the refrigeration needed although it was entirely my responsibility. I could not have asked for better help when in need.

EVERYTHING went downhill once there was a change in ownership in September 2024. Food quality, options and portions, which had all been excellent, went downhill immediately. "Corporate" is terrible and as Ellen reported above, they are very hard to track down and will do everything they can to avoid fixing an issue once you do track them down. They overcharged my parents $24,000 over the course of 1 year. I had to birddog the bill monthly, was told monthly by front line staff that they know the bill is wrong but waiting on corporate to fix it, I ultimately stopped using autopay due to incorrect charges, etc. I pursued this for 1 year, making them aware of the overcharges monthly before ultimately moving my parents elsewhere. I was finally refunded the $24,000 3 months after my parents moved out but only after I essentially made it my full time job and my life's passion to not let them get away with the blatant dishonesty and thievery. The utter hypocrisy of a company being in the senior care business while blatantly stealing from their residents is disgusting and unforgivable. I will tell everyone I know to steer clear of this facility as long as Sonida Senior Living owns it.

In early July 2026 my family received news that my stepfather was very ill in in his final stages…read moreof life. I contacted Life Care nursing staff to give them notice since my mother is currently a long-term resident there. The nursing staff is awesome on the Morningstar unit and said this info would help them prepare my mother for stepfathers passing. Early the next morning my stepfather passed away, and we began making arrangements for his funeral. I contacted the nursing staff who regularly provide my mother's care to give them notice that I was preparing to call my mother with the unfortunate news. When I did call my mother to let her know my stepfather had passed Lifecare nursing staff were awesome in providing support to her as she began grieving. Due to the distance involved in where my mother was residing with Life Care and the location of the funeral services in another city in South Carolina, the Life Care business office staff to include Gail Lucki as well as the activities director, they were awesome in setting up a Facetime session, so that a person attending the funeral service at a church and the VA Cemetery could video stream the services, so my mother could watch and participate in the service. The activities unit had a staffer assisted my mother in monitoring the video feed to ensure of any potential video issues. I want to commend a thank all of the staff who were instrumental in arranging the video session as well as the nursing staff who have assisted my mother these last couple of years. I was fortunate on a visit to thank some of the staff who had assisted me in arranging her intake into the Charleston facility and as back then to now the staff have been awesome in the amount of care they provide my mother on a daily basis. From the daily nursing staff to the treatment team who call with regular updates regarding her care. Kudos to an organization who do so well in caring for others. I wish I could give you all a hug.
