While my parents introduced me to a family friend who was a real estate agent, I had no idea how to go about finding a loan officer! After digging through Yelp/Google, I stumbled upon Meridox Mortgage that had stellar reviews and took a chance. I called Meridox and was put in touch with Trung Tran. I let him know that I didn't have any knowledge of how the house-buying process works, but he was incredibly supportive and assured me he would walk me through every step. Shortly after we finished talking on the phone, he sent me a list of items to provide for the pre-approval letter. Trung's turnaround was quick. I sent him my information in the evening and got the letter the next morning. My real estate agent used this letter to draft the offer...it was accepted! After my offer was accepted, the rest of the process was somewhat nebulous, but my real estate agent worked closely with Trung to help me through. Trung was with me every step of the way. He patiently explained how my monthly mortgage payment and closing costs were calculated and even helped me negotiate a home insurance offer. He even kept a close eye on the market and advised me when I should lock in the rate. I thought home buying would be more stressful, but it wasn't as bad as I thought because Trung made every step clear and was very on top of deadlines. I had Movement Mortgage for one year. Here's my experience:…read more The company was quick and helpful when setting up the mortgage. They were communicative, and made things as clear as possible for me. Their web portal is very intuitive and has a lot of tools that are helpful to homeowners, however there is no option to arrange for bi-monthly automatic-payments. No issues arose around payments, escrow, etc. Altogether I was very pleased... but, like most companies, everything changed after they got me locked in. The extreme level of detail they went into to figure out my financial picture was frustrating, to say the least. For example, trying to get the representative to understand that my shift schedule is arranged around a 36 hour week followed by a 48 hour week (8 hours of 1.5x pay) took the better part of a week. It was just incomprehensible to them that I didn't work a regular 9 to 5. I had to explain my pay in every way I possibly could before finally getting them to understand. Shortly before closing, I was sent a closing cost estimate. This estimate was roughly $7,000 less than what I was expecting. When speaking to my representative (Movement Mortgage loan officer Nick Swain) I asked about this discrepancy. I was told they double checked everything and they were CERTAIN the number they gave me was accurate. Come closing time, lo-and-behold they needed an extra $7,000 because they miscalculated, which I reminded them I brought up before we were here. They took no responsibility for the amount due, but helped me arrange to roll it into my mortgage. I wasn't very happy, but my apartment lease was coming due and I didn't have the leverage to play chicken. During the initial discussions, I was told very clearly and specifically by Mr. Swain that "Movement Mortgage will NOT sell-off my mortgage to another party", it was made out like selling mortgages to other lenders was not an honorable thing to do, and Movement Mortgage was above such disdainful acts. I wasn't exactly sure why he was so adamant about not selling the loan, as I never mentioned it as a selling point for me. Well, exactly 11 months into my mortgage agreement, I was notified that my loan was being sold to a third party. Surprise, surprise. Lastly, I have reached out to Nick Swain maybe three or four times since Movement Mortgage got my money, looking for assistance in minor mortgage-related matters and clarifications. Not once have a received a reply. The extremely attentive and helpful customer service that I got prior to closing was nowhere to be found once I had no other way to provide them profit or Mr. Swain commission. Altogether, in my opinion, Movement Mortgage is a shady business, hiding behind a guise of helpful faces and a polished user-interface.

This company has been great the first two years I have been with them. I recently got divorced and got a couple months behind. They make it nearly impossible unless you only send Cashier's checks or checks through the mail. The app won't let you do anything once you login and they no longer want any kind of payment over the phone. The people you talk to are still very pleasant, but all they can do say they are sorry and agree they think it's stupid how Movement Mortgage by Service Mac makes it so hard to make a payment. It seems to me they don't want your money. They want you to default so they can sell your house to another person. I do also want to include that I have never had any issues with them "losing" a payment or anything like that. They must have good record keeping in their company. When I catch back up, I do and will still recommend this company. They really just need making a payment much easier.

Brandon assured me they had dealt with loans on leased land and that the process would be relatively smooth. That was absolutely not the case! I primarily dealt with Ashleigh who didn't seem to be familiar with the process and was learning it as she went. I tried asking multiple times what else would be needed next in the process and I never got a clear answer. The answers I got from her gave the impression she didn't actually know. There were things she asked for that I couldn't immediately provide, then she never asked for them again, so clearly she didn't actually need them. Her lack of competence ended up wasting a lot of time I didn't have. She asked for things piece meal rather than all in one email and without prepping for the next step in the process. My manager was also very frustrated in her interactions with her. It got to a point that I was receiving calls on my days off from my manager about how frustrating and time consuming it was for her. I received an email from Ashleigh saying that my manager didn't send my pay broken down into subtypes and they would need that or would need every paystub I've ever gotten from this place of employment. I sent the paystubs within twenty minutes so they could stop bothering my manager and finally have the numbers they needed. Much to my and my manager's frustration, both Brandon and Ashleigh continued to harass her about my paystubs anyway. Then, as we were getting closer to closing, it came out that there were items that Secure Choice Lending had not completed, even though they had been told about these things the second day of the process. The incompetence of this team caused so much extra stress and anxiety and actually cost me more money. Because of the delays caused by Secure Choice Lending, I had to extend our lease past when we had already planned to move out. I also had to pay an extra $1k to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to expedite their approval process to recoup some of the time lost because of Secure Choice Lending and to save us from having to extend our lease even more. After the process was over, I reached out to Brandon to express my concerns and ask him to help make right some of my financial losses caused by his team. He started his email with all of the reasons why the extended process was not his fault, mostly trying to pin it on my manager. I got Secure Choice Lending the documents needed within twenty minutes so my manager would no longer have to take time out of her actual job, so I felt this excuse was bizarre and pathetic. His offer to "make it right" was measly and frankly offensive and did not include any financial reimbursement to help make up for the money I lost due to his team's incompetence. To top it all off, I emailed him a month ago and he has simply stopped replying to me. My advice for everyone after this process is to find a competent team. Everyone makes mistakes, we are all human, but find a team that will actually own up to their mistakes, be professional, reply to correspondence, is honest about their abilities, and actually rights any wrongs.
