The family took a drive out to this farm on a Sunday morning. Plenty of parking and it was not crowded so that was nice. There was not much going here except for apple picking so it was lacking a family friendly vibe. The apple cider donuts were was average.. I had much better at other farms. They have a variety of different hard ciders and wine at the location. The girl that was working at the cider stand was extremely friendly and helpful. The fire roasted corn that was being sold at the location was delicious! I would come back just to eat corn and drink hard ciders on a warmer day.

After doing some thorough research on where to go apple picking with my family last weekend (over the long weekend), I decided on Melick's. Looked like they had great reviews and everything I was looking for: apple orchards, apple cider donuts, and even roasted corn! This was going to be our first big outing since COVID, so we were all a little anxious about the social distancing and not knowing what to expect, but we took the leap of faith anyway. Unfortunately everything kind of fell short for us. I stalked the ticketing system everyday last week, until reservations finally opened up 3 days before we went - I booked 6 slots for 1:45pm on Saturday, Oct. 10th. It was a whopping $5 per person + tax on weekends ($32 total). Now, I understand that reservations are the norm now (and necessary) to regulate the amount of people coming in and out, but the farm did such a poor job on the execution. When we arrived, I walked over to the check-in booth by myself and gave my name + reservation time. We were about 10 min late, but that didn't matter since the staff member just asked how many bags I needed and gave very generalized directions of where the apple orchards were ("over there," as she pointed to her right). That's it. No wristbands, no bouncer, no one counting the number of people in my party, and we were allowed to just wander off anywhere. So basically, I really could've reserved just ONE ticket and "snuck" the rest of my family in... except it really wouldn't have been sneaking in, since no one even cared. So I'm still a bit frustrated that I kinda wasted an extra $27 on admission alone. Also, no one was actually timing us (we were supposedly allowed only 1 hour to pick) so the time you arrive doesn't REALLY matter and you really don't have to rush. After all that to see the main area with the roasted corn stand, hot dog stand, and picnic tables were PACKED for a farm that was supposedly practicing social distancing. We definitely avoided that area, and I was disappointed that we weren't going to get a chance to have the corn. If I was by myself or one other person I might've gone for it, but it was too risky with my grandma and parents there with me. As for the apple picking itself...... the orchards were very spacious and rarely did we run into other parties. However, there were not a lot of trees to pick from. And it would've been helpful if the check-in lady advised us to take the tractor ride over to the pickable trees. We foolishly walked through many, many rows of empty trees thinking that they were all gone. And again, with the eldery, walking was a bit of a struggle. We eventually found the Red Delicious trees and it felt like hitting the jackpot. They were huge and well, delicious. We ended up only getting these. There were supposedly some Winesap and Jonagold (not sure which else) available to pick, but at that point we were all too tired to go any further and scavenge around for them. My mom kept asking me how much it would cost per pound, and I didn't know. When we were on line to pay for them, there were no signs anywhere. It wasn't until she directly asked the cashier after paying that we found out it was $1.59/lb. Not cheap but I think it's an okay price, if I didn't have to pay all that admission money in addition to this. My boyfriend and I still decided to splurge on apple cider, apple cider donuts, and an apple caramel walnut pie -- I mean why not, we drove all the way out here, might as well! The apple cider was 10/10 amazing. Don't think we've ever had it so fresh and delicious. We have regrets for getting the half gallon ($3.99) and not the full gallon. The donuts ($4.99) were just okay, definitely on the drier side. The pie ($14) was surprisingly good. I'm not a pie person but the crust blew me away. My feelings about this farm are pretty mixed, but I'm still very glad we finally got out of the house to do something fun. Though the experience could've been better, I'm happy about the yummy goods we got to bring home to enjoy.

Came here today with my family. It was a beautiful day to walk around the orchard and pick apples. They have a wide selection and the trees are still pretty full. The land is huge so it's definitely spaced out and you're not in other peoples way. We reserved a time slot online for $5 and it's $7 if you walk in. We paid about $13 for a bag halfway full of apples which is very reasonable and also got some gourds 3 for $2. Everything is A+ for us except for the experience we had purchasing our food. In one of the white and yellow tents where hotdogs and popcorn are sold, there was a young boy who is handling popcorn and money. We saw him as he filled 2 bags at once, his fingers were in the bags. He didn't have a mask or gloves on. As he scoops the popcorn, they go all over his hands. And did I mention his fingers are all up in the popcorn bags? I asked him why he's not wearing a mask of gloves and he said they're not required to do so. The guy serving the hotdog was wearing one glove & mask so I feel like I should really be appreciate of that??‍ I mean, sure, the other hand without a glove is not touching the food per se but is this place really out of gloves or just not enforcing food safety guidelines? So disappointing. I guess caring for others is just too much to ask for these days.

I love coming here with my family in the fall! They have a wide variety of apples to pick from but it is often hit or miss. I would come in early-mid October to get the best picks! Their lines are super long too, so just be prepared. Most people who come to visit don't realize you can just walk right up to pick your apples with your empty basket - you don't HAVE to wait for the tractor to bring you up. However I would take it DOWN the hill when you have a full basket of apples since it gets pretty heavy and tiring to carry. Along with apple picking, they also sell cider donuts, hard cider, corn on the cob, and a variety of jams and honeys. Their products are so tasty - I would recommend getting something to enjoy while you are there after apple picking. They also have a selection of pumpkIns you can pick from, but they aren't in a patch. Truly a gem in Hunterdon County!

Definitely a cute stand with pumpkins, apple cider donuts and other sweet treats. I thought it was going to be pumpkin picking. But the pumpkins are neatly by the stand. They have a low entrance fee and you can also make reservations online. I'm not well versed but it was simple enough to be a walk-in so that was great. A couple of concessions aside from all the fall appropriate goodies. One stand that held their hard cider that you can drink while going Apple picking. Entrance fee did include the hay ride which in my experience isn't normally the case so I was thankful. Definitely recommend doing the hay ride, a lot of people are eager to get right into the orchards that surround the stand and they did have a sign letting people know that quantity was a bit low of certain apples with their apologies. The hay ride how ever did take you to a more densely filled part of the orchard which did make the Apple picking way more bountiful and fun. My daughter (10) and I had a lot of fun and were able to make it last 2 1/2 hours so I highly recommend and would suggest the trip. There is also a solid park for the kids to play at. Lastly parking didn't seem to be an issue we were there early enough to be able to park by the little stand set ups but they had parking attendants helping everyone to find a parking spot with ease as I perceived it. Overall had so much fun and their donuts were amazing!

An awesome place to visit with the family in the fall. Apples are so fun to pick and they have a lot of food and cider to try. Prices are reasonable as well. Great outing for the whole family!

Chili Lime Mayo Corn - may sound strange but was great

I've lived in the area for a while, have know about this place but have never been. It's in downtown Tewksbury / Oldwick which is a very nice area. We came on a Sunday morning around 11 and I couldn't believe how packed the place was. My family wanted to do apple picking so you wait in line to pay ($2/adult, children free) and get your bags. They have a very large area to pick apples and a tractor will take you to the top. There are a number of different apples to choose from - for me, I only really know red vs green so I'm not getting much deeper than that. We picked a ton of apples. My daughter, who is 2, absolutely loved it. We picked about 20 lbs of apples which is ridiculous (I know) but my wife ends up making a ton of stuff with the apples. When you pick more than 10 lbs, you pay $1.59/lb so it ended up costing us about $30 and we got a small pumpkin. In addition to the apple picking, they have a market area that sells pumpkins, ciders, donuts, gourds, etc. It's pretty much all the stuff you'd expect to see. They also have some food vendors set up selling popcorn, hot dogs and roasted corn. I was intrigued by the Chili Lime Mayo roasted corn. At $4 an ear, it was a total ripoff. However, the corn was actually excellent. I saw so many people getting it with the chili lime mayor and had to try it. I would highly recommend. I will caution you that the corn comes right out of the roaster so it is incredibly hot. I burned the roof of my mouth pretty good. They have a pretty large parking area and it's free to enter. You only pay for the things you actually get or do. They also sell hard cider. I am not a cider fan but my wife did try one and liked it. I was pretty impressed that had a number of different varieties and some "on tap". And, they also had indoor bathrooms vs port-a-pottys and they were clean which is a plus for a place like this. Overall, I was very impressed. I didn't have the highest expectations but we had an excellent time. This place is definitely a gem.

I wanted to find a farm that…read morehad a pumpkin patch but still had apple picking, and Ort Farms had both - so it was perfect! It was about an hour drive from me, so it wasn't too bad. We came on the last Sunday of September, so the pumpkin patch and hayrides were already open (I believe they open mid-September) but they still had some late varieties of apples. They had some veggies available for picking too - tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. You just need to purchase a bag and you can use it for both. Admission was about $15 per adult, which you have to purchase online. Kids 3 and under are free. We did the 9:30 time slot but didn't get there until 10, which didn't seem to be an issue. It's definitely best to go early so you can avoid as much of the crowd as possible. We spent almost three hours there and it was crowded by the time we left. The good thing about going in September is that most people don't want to go until October, so you get to avoid that mess. But the bad thing is that it's still probably really hot and if you're picking fruits/veggies in hot weather, it's not the most fun. By the time we were done picking apples and veggies, we were all hot and tired by the time we got to the pumpkin patch. So I'd suggest doing all of your photo ops at the pumpkin patch first and then doing all the manual labor. They have a few food trucks in one area and the apple cider slush was nice and refreshing after picking fruit. They also have a farm store with your usual suspects - pies, apple cider donuts, pre-made salads/sandwiches, etc., but we didn't buy anything. I think I found our new go-to farm. It's nice that you can kill two birds with one stone. I saw they have U-cut Christmas trees in December so I'm interested to see if they're doing any Christmas events - I wouldn't mind making the drive back.

It was fairly easy to find though going there, my map told me to go down a treacherous gravel road which I wasn't terribly fond of. They have a moderately sized parking lot and you'll see this large, red barn. That's where you get your goodies (there's often a line) and where their store is. We stopped by for a treat first. They sell ice cream, cider floats, and what is a "TikTok famous" coffee float with donut. We got: Cider ($4) - I didn't actually drink this. I got it for my kid with food allergies. He wanted ice cream but they do not know if the ice cream they use contains eggs or not so we played it safe. My kid thought it was okay but finally finished it later. He typically prefers regular apple juice. Cider float with donut - you have a choice of no donut for $2 less. It's like a root beer float but with cider instead of root beer, black and orange sprinkles around the time of the cup, whipped cream, and a powdered cider donut over it all. I shared this with my daughter. That donut was delicious! Warm, tender, and crisp on the outside. The drink was great! I do wish it came with a spoon because it got difficult finishing the last of it. Warning: if you have one of these, the bees are coming for you. They use some sort of caramel-like sauce to get the sprinkles to stick. Overall, quite good. Maple cider donut ($3): my sister got this and she said it was amazing, but she said she thought $3 was a bit much (the unglazed donuts are $1.25 each). She's vegan, so didn't partake in the float, but she also wasn't going to ask if there's milk in the donut. If you're getting only donuts, they are purchased in the store. They have tables and chairs nearby for you to picnic and enjoy your treats. Going through the gates, there was a table but they were busy with other people so we walked right in. There is no entrance fee, which was nice. You go through the apple orchard first. It seems like most of the apples have been picked through, though there are a lot of developing apples. Some of the nicer ones were way too tall for us; they don't provide ladders. We only managed to find one that looked nice. At the end, there used to be a sunflower field and the corn maze. It's epic but you don't know how formidable until you're past the point of return and realize it's not a kids maze. We were in there for a while! Even met other kids that thought they'd be lost forever. The corn stalks are taller than a human and they're pretty dense so you can't look over or through them. It's a true maze and I was impressed. I wish they would provide a paper maze puzzle of the corn maze because I'm so curious how it is from above. Lots of dead ends. What I can say is don't lose hope. You'll get there! (When we finally found the exit, it was almost like a dream because we had been staring at corn for so long.) In hindsight, it was good we ate something first. Once done, we explored the sunflowers and saw the pumpkin patch. As we headed out, we went to pay for our lone apple and we discovered THE CORN MAZE IS NOT FREE. It's $10 per adult and $5 per kid. They charged us $1 for the single apple. I guess they work on the honor system? I didn't mind much because that maze clearly took planning. Before we left, we visited the store full of baked goodies. I got a few cider donuts, a dumpling, and a piece of crumb cake because they just brought out a fresh tray. Plus a lattice harvest pie. The pies with crumble aren't vegan, but the lattice pies are made of vegetable shortening. Restrooms! They have a row of port-a-potties by the parking lot. They're actually the cleanest ones I've been to before. No sinks but they do have a dispenser of antibacterial hand gel. The openings are a bit large so if your kid needs to use the toilets, hold onto them. Overall, it was quite enjoyable and I definitely think everyone should go through a corn maze of this caliber at least once in their life. The apple pickings were sparse but at least you get delicious floats and donuts! Note: they have gluten free goodies in the store but they are nut based (almond flour). They also had one gluten free-vegan item.

After researching several options with a mind toward reasonable entrance fees and fair prices per unit, Melick's was where we landed. At $5.99 per person for weekend pricing (which includes a free hayride to the furthest points of the orchard) at peak picking season, I felt it was worth the longer drive to get there. I also loved that they issued free plastic picking bags without the added cost, as many orchards are now wont to do. In late September, there were plenty of apples ripe for the picking, with clear signage to denote which types were ripe. Honeycrisp apples were a little more per pound, but once I tasted a few, it was clear why. True to its name, I've never bit into a more juicier or crunchier apple, and I've been spoiled for supermarket apples for good. Most folks seem to come for the apples, but I saw a fair number of people coming down from the fields with armloads of giant sunflowers. Of course, there's always the store at the front, with other farm-fresh produce, cider (both alcoholic and non), and baked goodies. The alcoholic apple cider was refreshing, with a light buzz that made time in the orchard just a little happier. No bags or backpacks are allowed in the orchard area, but there's a small picnic area with some tables and porta-potties at the very front. Our family came prepared with picnic blankets, and the folks here were totally fine with us setting up by the goats (who are fenced in, so there's no direct interaction but the children in our group had great fun watching them while we ate). Melick may not have all the frills and fancy fun of other orchards, but I was delighted by a few perks, like a small tire play area and a decently sized corn maze that was fun to walk through with the family. The parking lot doesn't seem all that large, but when we went, it never seemed to get so busy that it was impossible to find a spot.
