This would have been 5 stars but unlike the other reviewers, the service we got was super rude, inattentive and so even though food was great, I can't justify 5 stars as the attitude of the person serving us made the overall dinner/evening not that great.
After freezing ourselves in -3 degree weather checking out Checkpoint Charlie and the outdoor wall exhibition, our party of four skipped the line of street vendors (the smell of their stale cooking oil made this an easy decision) and instead headed to Meli's for some soup and second Vietnamese of the day (we had had surprisingly excellent Vietnamese food for lunch at the mall of Berlin earlier that day and as a side note, shocks me how much Asian food I am having in Germany as had hoped to eat more sausages and schnitzel).
I loved how super comfy the seats were, but wished the heating had been turned up some more. It took me quite a while to defrost here, compared to other restaurant had been to.
My mum wanted the pho soup without tofu and tried to explain this to our waitress. But the waitress was impatient and walked away saying she would come back when we were ready to order. So it was a bit rude, but we thought since it was past 9pm, she might have had a long day and tried not to let her dismissive attitude effect us. She finally came back and Mum re-explained the not eating Tofu part, on which the waitress said, ok, you get chicken instead? Argh! So mum explained she was a vegetarian yet again, but even while writing our orders, we had to keep correcting her as she said the wrong items. And then to cap it off, I had asked for ginger tea but got the peppermint tea instead, and so took several tries before she finally switched it out for the correct tea.
When the food finally did arrive, it almost made up for the waitress meh attitude. Mum's modified pho soup was lovely, even if all she got was greens. Both chicken dishes were also good, with strong accents on the kefir line and lemongrass and my bento box was truly excellent. I loved my salad and the sauce that accompanied my warm sushi was not overtly sweet. It was a satisfying meal, with slightly different taste notes from the Vietnamese we had at lunch, and I would only come back again for the food, as the service truly wasn't that great. read more
