This was my first time eating here, although my parents come often. We brought my grandparents who are visiting from out of state, and everyone really enjoyed it. The restaurant was very clean and had an authentic Mexican vibe, with light Spanish music playing in the background--not too loud, so it was easy to have a conversation without raising our voices. The food was delicious and came out hot, and the service was excellent--very attentive, with refills always taken care of. The flavors were outstanding, definitely some of the best Mexican food in Helena. My only suggestion would be to offer an alternative option for the beans, since they're made with pork lard and we don't eat pork. read more

This was a chance stop for us as we were hungry and used yelp to find a Mexican restaurant. We sat outside as it was a beautiful day. The waitress was great bringing us water and chips and salsa right away. She ended up bringing more salsa since it was great and we downed it right way. We shared a chicken quesadilla which was delicious! So thankful we shared it! It came with sour cream, quac, and pico. Had a house margarita with lunch. This will be my 3rd review of this restaurant in 8 years. My last review wasn't very positive but when a business owner cares enough to correct a problem, I feel obligated to do the same. It's not very often that a restaurant can recover once service starts going down but Melaque's is the exception. My visit on the 18th was nothing but wonderful. The atmosphere is very nice, set up like a restaurant you would see in Mexico. The food was delicious, prompt and hot. The service was excellent and Maria, the owner is truly an amazing person. The only regret I have is that after 12/21/26, they are going to be closed for 2 weeks, so I will have to wait until they re-open to enjoy their wonderful restaurant again. DON'T COME HERE HUNGRY!! THE SERVICE IS HORRIBLE! I wish I could give a review on the food. However, I've been waiting for a single table for 40 minutes, was then sat and no server acknowledged me for 20 minutes, once sat. Once finally acknowledged, by said server, she assumed I wanted water only and I asked for a beer. Off she goes again, 15 minutes later she comes back with my beer and then finally takes my order after an hour and 15 min from walking in the front door. I love me some good Mexican, and I've been surprise in the past at what I found in different states. But I will say that by far this is some of the worst Mexican food that I have ever eaten. I try not to leave bad reviews as the staff is good, but the food like to taste. We were a party of three and when we arrived it was about a 30 minute wait. So we decided to go to the casino/bar that is connected onto the Mexican restaurant. They are separate entities so make sure you pay for your bar bill before you go into the restaurant. Once we were seated, we got a booth near the window with you were people sitting right outside and children looking in at us. We just came to take our order as we already gotten drinks from the bar. Because we were leaving out the next day I try not to order too much food, so I order off of the à la carte menu. When my food came, it was a avocado tostada with beans and rice on the side. I did not order any meat on here just beans, and there were so many you could not even see the tortilla shell or pick it up with fear of it breaking and being a hot mess. I asked her if this was the à la carte or the meal and she said it was the meal. Informed her that all I requested Was the à la carte. She was nice enough to fix it off of my bill so that it reflected properly. It was a good thing too because the rice was a little on the dry and crunchy side and the beans look like they came out of a can. I also ordered a crunchy chicken taco, but when it came out, it was on a flour tortilla that didn't even seem to be warm. Coworker got the bacon, wrapped shrimp, he said it was good, but he only ate the shrimp not the beans or rice. Other coworker I believe got an enchilada and he is from the southwest just like I am, and said it was not the best food that he has had. We flew into Helena, Montana to drive down and visit Yellowstone National Park. What an amazing trip we had! We got back to Helena to overnight and fly back home. Of course we were hungry, and not knowing the local restaurants, we always go to YELP. Yelp gave this restaurant a good review so off we went! We got to the restaurant, the staff was attentive, friendly, and helpful. We ordered a House Margarita to start and it was very good. I ordered their Carnitas Plate and a tamale a la carte. My wife ordered a combination: a street taco, a chicken enchilada, and a tamale. The food was awesome and the portions were huge. The atmosphere is casual and there's plenty of parking. We sat outside because it was a pleasant day. If you live Helena or just visiting, and you're hungry for some good Mexican food, this is the place. Buen Provecho! read more

Located right next to a casino and that's where the restrooms are also located. You are greeted with chips & salsa when you sit down. The chips and salsa actually taste like it's store bought. The salsa tastes like Tostitos for sure, but I wouldn't say for sure that's what it was. Either way, it was good. The steak fajitas that I ordered was pretty good. I ordered the Chili Verde Special and it was the best I've had in years. My wife got the chicken quesadilla and she loved it. A lot of thought and detail went into the festive decor and we both noticed how clean the restaurant was. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. We each ordered a 3 item combo (love the chili rellenos!) and the waitress noticed that one enchilada had beef instead of chicken and told us the correct enchilada was being made even as she delivered the 3 items to the table (so we ended up with an additional enchilada!) Large portions with warm chips and tasty salsa. Just be prepared to patiently wait for a table cuz the waitresses are super busy doing it all while staying friendly (and attentive!)
